This ain't over by a long shot. Today marks the first day of the real revolution in Egypt. It's going to be VERY bloody, and it's not going to be short.

(Reposted due to newer thread.) This is what I could not find the words to express yesterday about Iran. Here it is, well written. apnews.myway.com/article/20110211/D9LAIKV80.htmlAhmadinejad: Egyptian protests herald new Mideast Feb 11, 7:24 AM (ET) TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's president said Friday that Egypt's popular uprising shows a new Islamic Middle East is emerging, one that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claims will have no signs of Israel and U.S. "interference."... ...Tens of thousands marched down Tehran's main boulevard in state-organized anniversary festivities, chanting in support of Egyptian anti-government protesters. Some Iranians set an effigy of Mubarak on fire while others shouted: "Hosni non-Mubarak, 'Mubarak' (congratulations) on the uprising of your people."... ..."Despite all the (West's) complicated and satanic designs ... a new Middle East is emerging without the Zionist regime and U.S. interference, a place where the arrogant powers will have no place," Ahmadinejad told the crowd.... ...After his address, Ahmadinejad carried a placard reading, "Death to Israel." Much more... Now I know many of you do not want to give Israel money any more, some even think Israel is a terrorist nation because of the whole Palestinian issue, but SURELY no one can approve of this??? I have heard it denied and denied and DENIED on the boards-- but over and over again Iran has said it will push Israel into the sea-- and that is the MILD interpretation of what he says that anti-Israel people seem to be able to stomach.

Well, at least the military did not open fire on the crowds. Some poll said 60+% of Egyptians like the MB, while only 20% are more secular. I'll try to find that somewhere. SO-- even if they DO have fair elections, it may spell disaster for the US, Israel, and allies........ we have a few left, right?

I just read on a scrolly on Debka.com that the VP position has been abolished and the Parliament speaker is now the leader and must answer to the military.

Good for the people of Egypt. The leaders of the other arab nations must now be watching very carefully.

I think Ahmadinejad needs to pay attention to his own issues. If it weren't for his own rigged elections and secret police he'd be out on his butt by now. It almost happened last year.
If Egypt can make this transition happen fairly smoothly it's a really good sign for democratic rule in the middle east. About time, too.

How about the military stopped over at the palace, Mubarak offered then some tea and refreshments , then the miliary said , Mr President were sorry to tell you this but we held on as long as we could, Friday 12 million will be in the Square and they will march to the Palace and who knows whayt will happen..you have to step down.
Mubarak sighed said darn and then said OK. VP , Suliman , said I'm stepping down..the militaary will govern now.
Did you expect Iran to say anything else....why be up set over what they say Krickett...lordy..just sit back and watch will happen, the celebration.
Now all parties will try to work it out.
What is really upsetting is and we should be worrying about is that the Saudia King, is so up set with Obama for not standing up for Mubarak, Mubarak was /is his close friend, he's King, sent envoys to the Iranians , invited representatives to come to visit the capital for talks.
Now before the ones who are going to be over Obama for his handling, just what would you have wanted the President to do. Stand up for him strongly, ask the crowd to have gone home, and then this happens?
There is a lot more that will be going on in the Middle East in the coming days. Hold on to your seats, buckle up.
Going to be a hell of a ride.

60 plus % would vote for a Theocracy over what we understand to be a democratic system. Question is what kind of theocracy..how moderate or radical? In Iran a secular dictatorship was replaced with a theocratic dictatorship perhaps more repressive than the regime it overthrew.

You do understand how that works in an Islamic Middle Eastern nation, right? It's not done over tea and scones, I assure you...

debka.com/article/20658/debkafile reports that in fact a military coup d'etat took place and the high army command is in charge of administering the nation. Any civilian stepping into the presidential office would have to cooperate with the army. According to the Egyptian constitution, the president's powers pass to the Speaker of Parliament for a transitional period lasting between 60 days and two years. It is not clear whether Suleiman stays on as Vice President or takes his seat on the High Army Council alongside Defense Minister Field Marshal Mohamad Tantawi, head of the Council, and the Chief of Staff Gen. Sami Al-Anan. debkafile reports that the coup was originally scheduled for Thursday, 24 hours earlier, when the crowds camping in Tahrir Square were fired up by reports of the president's imminent resignation. They gave the army commanders the last push to take over as per demand. American sources, including CIA Director Leon Panetta, said openly that Mubarak would resign Thursday night. When Mubarak went on the air to state he would last out his term until September, Panetta rephrased his comments. In his speech, Mubarak said he would transfer some of his powers to Vice President Suleiman but oversee the transition of power himself. Friday morning, the High Army Council convened after hectic conversations with Washington and the generals after hesitating for several hours presented their ultimatum, which gave Mubarak no option but to resign. An army aircraft flew him out of Cairo to Sharm el-Sheikh (Not much more if anyone does not want to open the link.)

IF that article out of Israel is true, and the US WAS responsible for a coup--- the Saudis are going to be VERY angry. Considering they are already talking with Iran about the Suez Canal and other things, just yesterday-- (links to that have been posted) this could go bad for the US and Israel REAL quick. Which is why a lot of us thought Obama was doing a good job by staying out of it. If this article is true.... Uh-Oh. Has anyone read anything like this in an American news link, or any other country??

Has anyone read anything like this in an American news link, or any other country?? There was a article about how angry The king, Saudi, was with Obama, furious, would not see envoy sent to see him, he is or was in Morocco recovering from a problem, and the story of talking to Iranians.. Part of it is thinking we would back away from support of the House of Saud , royal house , if same thing happened there. I think Obama played it correctly , walking a top tight rope.. Not blaming him for saying it ..but you can go back to Bush Jr. calling for democracy in the Middle East..nothing wrong there but sometimes better to keep mouth shut as you first consider who our Allies and friends are and where they are politically..autocratic regimes, best friends, supporters, buddies ...but suggesting they should be replaced? mmmmm

Yeah, Dez. Now people that even hate each other are feeling like the USA will betray them, also. It's nasty over there. It would be nice to be able to hide in a little cocoon, and say-- well that is OVER THERE-- but then you hear Jan Nap say yesterday that our terror threat is higher now than ever before due to homegrown, etc-- and finally, FINALLY I THINK she is starting to get the clue that it is not returned military, skinheads, right wing extremists, blahblahblah that are the issue.
