Onestep, mistakes are something that you can control. Getting cancer doesn't fit into that category. Cut yourself some slack. Declare BK if it is an option. But please don't blame yourself.

Buying my house closer to the top of the market than I realized. Not irrecoverable but it does suck.

I got a sizable inheritance when I turned 18. It should have paid for all my college and then some, but I came out of college with some small school loans AND credit card debt. DOH.

Bought our house in the spring of 2006. Shortly thereafter housing prices peaked and its been downhill since. Had we known we would have waited a couple of more years.

Getting married to a naive, foolish man who fell for every get rich quick scheme that came along. I reined him in as best I could. The best one was "Bull Investment Group" that wanted $5K for some very vague investment scheme. They were later indicted for fraud (but not on us).

The biggest mistake I've made was not taking full advantage of college when I was younger/poorer. I dropped out when I got married. At the time I qualified for a free ride, but couldn't handle the stress of working full time, being a wife, and full time school. Now I'm finishing up my second nursing degree, all in all I will graduate about $12K in student loan debt. My employer will reimburse me for about half of that. The boost in pay (about $30k more per year, plus way better benefits) will be well worth it, but I wish I'd done it when it was free.
