I can parallel park. I agree with oldtex, I learned on a large vehicle so it's not that big of a deal to me. Just last week we went out to eat downtown and I parallel parked in front of a bar (not where we were going; just where there was an open space) and three guys came out to "commend" me on my parking. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif) Seems to me that's something everyone should be able to do. Just my opinion, though. I guess they weren't expecting a female to step out of a large truck parking that way or something...

Oh sorry!!! Posting AND working doesn't always work out well for me, which is why I don't post much. My fault. I do still agree with you, though!

Well, I haven't crashed in almost a fortnight, and the ignition-breath-thingy keeps me from DWTIB (Driving While Thinking I'm Batman), so all in all, I'd have to say that I'm an excellent driver! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

I'm a good driver and can parallel park my car in usually one try. Sometimes 2 if it's really tight. My DL says I'm a safe driver. Probably because my DH usually drives when we go out so I can have a drink. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

I'm curious as to whether the "good drivers" here can all parallel park. I'm still amazed at how some people never master this basic concept. The last lets call it ticket I had was 8+ years ago when I shouldn't have been driving and I've long since paid for that mistake and still am. Since then nothing but I admittedly do sometimes pass slower vehicles when I get behind someone on their phone, a driver who breaks for no apparent reason, drives under the speed limit by 10mph or more for no reason, etc. I can parallel park really well. So that's not my problem. And I am also really good at trailering, launching, backing and parking tall boats on a trailer. But on the main roads, I drive too fast. With loud, inappropriate music. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/melancholy.png)

I can parallel park, but it's because my Dad made me practice it over and over again when I had my permit. I can relate that guys seem a little shocked when a woman can parallel park. My SIL was stopped in a small town in the Midwest, & checked her oil at a gas station. The guy at the counter was totally blown away! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/laugh.png)

I didn't think parallel parking was that hard.

I'm pretty good except I do speed on the long drive up and down I-5 between SF and So. CA and on I-10/I-8 between So. CA and the Phoenix metropolitan area. Pretty flat and borrrrrrring. I drive about 5-10 miles over the posted speed limit of 70. But I don't mess around in heavy traffic, dust storms, fog, construction, or bad weather. Not worth it.
I can parallel park. If I haven't done it for a while I can be a little slow.
My dad taught me how to drive when I was 10 on a VW stick shift. Everyone should learn how to drive a stick.

Parallel parking isn't that hard but some people flat out can't do it. In my experience there's a higher percentage of women who have this problem and I'm guessing that's why some of the women on this board have gotten "surprising" responses from men when they do it with ease. My buddies ex couldn't parallel park at all and she would have to get out of the car and have him do it for her.

Oh, Bonny, forgot about that one: YES everyone should learn to drive a stick shift! We had a story around here recently where someone stole a vehicle, but soon realized it was a standard and needless to say did NOT get very far with the vehicle! The owner actually caught up to him on FOOT and grabbed him out of the vehicle. Of course, the guy ran away before police could get there, but at least the vehicle was recovered and gave us all something to laugh about! I say forget about a fancy alarm system, just drive a standard because now not too many people know how to drive them.

I can't parallel park. Took me awhile to figure it out but I have issues with depth perception. I'm the person those automatic parking cars are made for. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/shucks2.png)

I dunno. I'd like to think I'm a good drive. Almost got into two accidents today though. One woman beeped and swerved around me because I had the audacity to slow down when a light turned yellow and stop when it turned red. The stopping at the red light part really upset the lady behind me. So, she beeped, swerved, sped up and went right through a red light. Based on the street she was on, I don't think it was an emergency. If it was an emergency, she would have turned off to get to several main roads, which would have gotten her to where she needed to go faster. I've always treated yellow lights as "stop if you can." So yeah, I normally stop at yellow lights if I can comfortably stop depending on my distance and speed. But I know what you mean, lots of people think yellow lights mean "gun it and try and make it" so when I stop they have to slam on their breaks to avoid rear ending me. I've almost gotten rear ended a few times and I'm sure more than a couple of course words. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

Well, I have been known to drive while on the phone, or to put in the numbers or program the GPS while driving. So maybe I'm a below average driver after all?
In my defense, I've never texted and drove, and with my new phone having a password I probably won't do that anymore, at least not without pulling over. And I never do it in heavy traffic or bad road conditions.
As far as speeding, I'm pretty good at consistently going 5 miles above the speed limit.
