Well - if we use AGI, it gets a lot easier, because our 401k is pulled out before AGI is calculated. So, right off the bat, it appears as if I have saved a larger percentage than I have. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Meh- I just used AGI because I know what it was. Our actual gross was somewhat around 80k. We aren't using our employer plans because of crappy fees and DH's employer tends to just steal the with-holdings instead of sending them into the plan.

Every time I try to tell a YM joke it turns out to be true. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I guess back in the MSN days, YM was more hardcore. I don't see all that much preaching these days.

I guess back in the MSN days, YM was more hardcore. I don't see all that much preaching these days. It was fun for the first 10 years or so. After that, we were all just yelling the same crap at each other. Reminds me of when the clones ran for president on Futurama: Johnson: It's time someone had the courage to stand up and say: "I'm against those things that everybody hates". Jackson: Now I respect my opponent. I think he's a good man but, quite frankly, I agree with everything he just said! Johnson: I say your three cent titanium tax goes too far. Jackson: And I say your three cent titanium tax doesn't go too far enough!

Yes, it's supposed to be a joke. Good job! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) (I'm assuming there was a second income to pay the bills though?) Not specifically. I had cut expenses previously when I was getting divorced. I later received a good-sized check from the sale of another property in which I held an interest. Used part of that to pay off my house, and was trying to figure out what to do with the rest. Didn't really want to lump-sum it all in considering different potential market risks so am doing it over time. Because I never really increased my expenses afterward and was spending down savings a little, I ended up over about a 19-month period adding more new money to my investments than I earned. So yeah, I do have to substitute "invest" for "save" in your example, but I figure it's a small matter. Now if only you had done the normal exaggeration and said 110%. I woulda hit that! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)
