'Muslim settler in Europe, America or Australia does not understand the concept that women can refuse sexual contact, that this is a mitigating circumstance.'
That is pure BS. That muslim settler CHOOSES to be in another country and needs to obey the law of the land.
I remember the China incident of many years ago about a 16 yr old US kid that was publically caned for vandalism. I said .... yes. US bleeding hearts thought it was terrible but I'll bet it taught that kid that the world won't bow down to him.

Americans seldom grasp the fact that throughout MOST of human history, and in MOST of the world today a 16 year old was/is a MAN. And corporal punishment was not uncommon even in the United States, and is still used throughout much of the world today. Now, I'm not for whacking people's hands off for theft, or stoning adulterers- though this may puzzle some people due to "cultural differences"- but public humiliation and a bump or a bruise isn't out of line if you ask me. But to the OP, you're right- pure BS. In the West it is widely understood that "ignorance of the law is no excuse". Ignorance is not a valid defense.

Since this is Australia and not Iran or Afghanistan I hope there is public outcry and pressure against this ruling. Not willing to read the link so I'll guess the judge is male.
Wonder how he would feel if a bunch of Afghan males went all 'Kite Runner' on him.
ETA: Its bad enough we suspend laws for Diplomats. I think any crime that is bodily harm related should not have different legal outcomes based on who committed the crime.

It's in a major Western country- which is why I don't dismiss it so lightly as something that will never affect Americans- especially since some in our government are convinced they may rely on foreign rulings for guidance in their decision making...

Must be a slow "bash a liberal" day in America when you have to go a week back to news in Aussieland.
That being said, it was a sucky ruling and he shouldn't be granted the luxury of an appeal, however, their laws may be just a wee bit different.

Paul, stop being a one trick pony.
The abuse and rape of women happens just as much, if not more, on these shores as it does in Muslim counties.
You are the equivalent of reading a headline on a tabloid...and everyone knows exactly what the rest of the story will read like. Stop being so predictable.
Having said that, I am no fan of Christian or Muslim religious extremists...they make me sick.
I have always made a point of teaching my sons that no...even if you are half way there, and she says stop, you respect that.
Don't mix alcohol ( or any other mood or mind altering substance) and social situations where it may be possible to take advantage of another person...that is cowardly, opportunistic and wrong.
I don't think any religion has a monopoly on being pigs.

This guy has a sentence of 14 years, with a minimum of 11 years. He won't be eligible for parole for 7 years and will be deported back to his home country when his sentence has been served. All he's won is a right to appeal and it looks like the appeal has been denied. That's all. Another non-event nothing. Link: The Christian Post

I see someone getting all apoplectic if the sentencing is upheld.

Then he'd best start now, Tennesseer. Sentence has been upheld. Apoplexy takes a bit to develop fully, and the date on the linked article in my post is ... today.

Appeal was denied, dj. That's all the guy got at the point of paul's tirade ... he'd won the right to appeal. Lotta good that did him.

Yeah, dj. I'd seen the dailymail link, as well. No reason to believe it's anything but the truth of the matter. Just a little research would have made the difference, rather than jumping on an article from Frongpage that's a year old.

Just a little research would have made the difference, rather than jumping on an article from Frongpage that's a year old. well, Frontpage ran this story on April 3rd. they just didn't bother following it up or updating it. nor did they bother telling the best part of the story. this monster was already in jail. this was a second charge. and his sentence was INCREASED. one might thing that conservatives would be CELEBRATING this result. but they aren't. they are mocking the judge whose motives may have been as simple as to add more time to this guy's sentence given the prima face evidence against him and his admission of guilt.

Yeah, this wasn't dude's only rape. To showcase something like this in the way they did simply shows them as the fools they are, as far as I'm concerned.

The appeal should have been denied. A real no brainer. And dj- what the heck does "anti-muslim sentiment" have to do with anything? Are you saying that if there was no "anti-muslim sentiment" the appeal would have been granted? Western justice is anti-muslim? I'm confused about how anti-muslim comes into play? I'm not focused on the muslim aspect at all. I'm focused on the threat posed by idiot justices. If this excuse for rape works- then virtually ANY excuse has to work. It didn't- thankfully. But I worry about things like this because it is indicative of a deeper, rampant stupidity-- and to pretend it's all ok because the appeal wasn't granted is naive.

Oh, give it up, paul! The judge granted the appeal and the appeal was denied! All your hyperbole about the doom that's a'comin' is just that: hyperbole. Nothing more. Just gobbledygook that you didn't even bother to research before dragging it in here like a puppy with a bedroom slipper stolen from under the damned bed! There is no way on earth anybody can come up with "a valid excuse for rape" from a case that was tried, the perp was convicted and sentenced, the conviction was appealed, and the appeal was denied. Your thread title and the OP are full of ... excrement, and you well know it. Sadly, so does anybody with any modicum of sense, or any appreciation for honesty.
