Update: 4NSD/5CSD/1Spend Goals: 10NSD/15CSD/5Spend
The anesthetic started to wear off before the root canal was completed. Luckily, I hadn't taken any of the Vicodin that had been prescribed for the pre-root canal pain, so I came home and took some of that. We did manage a dog park (but mostly because J came home and was able to go with us). And otherwise, the boys made me dinner and then we watched the new Red Dawn (which was awful). Today we're hoping to get our shopping in so it should be a CSD.
ses - glad Leo is starting to settle in. Soon enough the bed and breakfast will become home. Stay safe and warm with all of your snow.
Rocky Mtn Saver - would you actually get a snow day? I grew up in eastern MT and there was no such thing as a snow day for us.
redwagon - I forgot to say- let me know what you think of the Kindle Fire. We've been pondering tablets/eReaders, but haven't actually bought one yet

Shan, we do get the occasional Snow Days. I think everyone is either wimpier or more paranoid than we were when I was growing up too. The college I work for has about 400 High School students on campus in cross-programs, so we generally close the campus whenever the local K-12 schools close theirs. Unfortunately, I think our two school systems were the only ones in the whole state NOT to close on Tuesday! Argh. Where's the fun in that?

Hi guys! I am still around. I had the first of 4 surgeries yesterday, more dysplasia. I have finally gotten Momma Bear on board with the budget. AND she is even starting to eat at home!
Tuesday I am having dental surgery. I no longer have a 45 page to do list and I am much less stressed- both financially and otherwise. Things are starting to finally settle down.

Update 9 NSDs.
Just a quick pop-in to say hello. Spent the last few days in front of the computer correcting projects. With the exception of a few students who have not turned in the assignment yet, all of them are done. So glad those are done as it is the biggest project of the semester for this grade level and the next ones are a lot easier to correct. Between those and the weather I have managed to get several ns days this week.
Mizbear -- welcome back
Kindle Fire -- love mine as it does help allow me to check email and things without having to turn on the laptop. Like the regular Kindle as well but the fire gives me the internet.
Well back to work -- will check in when I can.

Grocery shopping yesterday as expected. I don't think we have anything planned for today. Tomorrow we'll get gas (maybe even twice) as we drive up north for an adoption event.

Friday- NSD Saturday- gas (CSD) Sunday- I bought the new laptop I've been wanting- spend. I need to create a shared folder for it on the network so that I can start moving all of my stuff off my desktop and on to it. This week, I am working today, but maybe not any other day. It is going to feel weird.

update: 12/25/30 NSD, 3/5/30 eating out days. I may end up spending today but it is a necessity. I want a mop but I don't need one. I can do it with a bucket of water and a rag but I don't want to anymore. I have done it that way ever since I moved here and I am tired of it. I can't get down on my knees bcause I had one of them replaced and it kills me to do that. I could sit on the floor but it would take me 15-20 mnutes to get up. I'm getting a mop.

Does anyone know how to figure how many payments you REALLY owe on a loan? My father is paying off my car and the online thing still shows the original maturity date for the loan. It doesn't change the date based on paying ahead, just the balance. Soooo, we are trying to figure out, how fast we can get this paid off. The sooner we get this paid off, A) the sooner I no longer have the loan in my name, B) the sooner I can move on with my master plan to take over the world, and C) the sooner I have less stress.
The current payoff listed is 9371.94 with an 8.99% int rate (was the first car I financed since my last divorce- which financially ruined me) Min monthly payments are $269.86. Have had no extensions or lates. I usually am paying anywhere from $270- 350. Father has agreed to pay $330 every month (combo of payment plus insurance)
Momma Bear is on the budget wagon right now- she has no choice with the new place and me being out of commission. I am also on the budget wagon. I have no choice LOL- I can't go anywhere!

Update 13 NSDs.
3cats -- The mop is a need not a want. Go for it.
mizbear -- I think that there are many online calculators that can help you find the answer to that question. I would type "auto loan payoff calculator" in the search box and see which one is the best for your situation.
I am beginning to see the light at the end of the school tunnel -- only six more weeks and all of the major projects are done. Only several small easier to grade ones left for my students.

Update: 6NSD/7CSD/2Spend Goals: 10NSD/15CSD/5Spend
Came home after work and pretty much did nothing last night. Today should be a dog park at most (free), though tomorrow and Thursday are both planned spends. I'm having lunch with a former boss tomorrow and on Thursday we're going out for J's birthday.

I love my Nook SimpleTouch for a basic eReader. So far the Kindle Fire is cool, seems to have decent apps, good Internet access (I just have WiFi version), good streaming. No real complaints. I still tend to be more loyal to the Nook products but used this as an excuse to try out the Kindle line. No complaints yet.

Hi ladies, I have been struggling with my shopping for a while now and have decided that NSDs might be what I need to keep myself on track. I was going to start in May and aim for 20 NSDs, but after reviewing this thread, it seems like that might be an aggressive goal. I don't want to set myself up for failure - should I lower my goal?
I also need a way to keep myself accountable, which is why this thread appeals to me, but online shopping is a big part of my problem and I would also like to limit the time I spend online. Any suggestions?

trimommy - I would suggest that for your first month, your goal be "as many as you can get", that way, you are trying, but you aren't holding yourself to an arbitrary number. After that, you can set your NSD goals based on realistic data and slowly work on getting away from online shopping. As for accountability, I would suggest you get yourself a calendar. At the end of every day, write down on the calendar what you spent money on and how much you spent. For days when you don't spend any money, or only spend money on planned/needed items (groceries), give yourself a smiley face or sticker. And that way, if you are limiting your time online, you only need to come here once a week (or less) to report your progress. We have one poster who specifically tracks her No QVC days, and only checks in once or twice a month, so you're definitely not alone.

Well, the sun is finally shining again today. Yay!! While finishing up the shoveling, I decided there was a good 2 feet of accumulation in my yard since Sunday evening. My poor tiny dog is so confused! She's white, and I'm afraid that if she falls into it, I'll never find her again!

Update: 7NSD/8CSD/3Spend Goals: 10NSD/15CSD/5Spend
Not spending a whole lot of time on here right now. I need to spend most of my time studying for my certification test next week.
Edited to change yesterday from a CSD to a Spend. (I wasn't thinking earlier.) Yesterday was J's birthday, and when we went to the game store to pick up the expansion he wanted for a board game, we found out they were going out of business and everything was 40% off. We bought a number of items (all the last copies they had), spending over $100. We may go back in a couple weeks to see if some of the other things we wanted (but they had multiple copies of) at an even greater discount.

Update: 19 NSD and 2 CSDs I am trying this again. This is my third or fourth attempt to update but the computer is giving me trouble. It is my old one that crashed but I had it out so I will try one more time.
I think that I am up to date with correcting the major projects. I am only waiting for a few late ones to come in. The rest of the projects for the remaining part of the school year are much easier to correct. I am also beginning to start reorganizing the classroom cabinets. I am starting the recycling of old papers that I have been storing for months. Also going through and packing up any materials that will not be used for the rest of this year. I think I will be in the same classroom next year but one never knows so I try to box up everything so if I have to move rooms it is easier to do so with stuff already in boxes. Also my school runs several summer activities and I know that my room has been used in previous years and I prefer to secure as many items as possible. Most of my personal items will be stored in another area of the building where I have a secure place to lock things up. I will be slowly bringing home plants once May begins. Some of them are beginning to look like they need fresh soil, etc.
I have been avoiding the stores as much as possible. I do need to make a quick trip to the grocery to pick up perishables sometime this week but that is in the budget.
Hope all of you are doing well.

Rocky Mtn Saver: 12 CSD/5 NSDWell, tax season is over and I guess I have to get back to all the other projects I've been putting off! I started by getting the windshield replaced on Saturday. Ombud, they told me they couldn't just fill the cracks because the damage was on both the inside and outside of the windshield. Oh well, I kinda knew it'd be the case.

update: 16/25/30 NSD, 5/5/30 eating out, 1 spend day not budgeted. I bought a book that I had been reading about and someone said it was very good. I still haven't bought the mop but it is on my to get list. My cousin and SIL and I had lunch at a very good place. It had everything you would want to eat except seafood. There was, steak, liver and onions, fired chicken, baked chicken, turkey, pork and sauerkraut, pulled pork, BBQ ribs and all the trimmings, including desert. The salad bar was out of this world. There was even a cabbage and noodles dish that I had and it was good. Next month it is my turn to pick a place and I chose, (choose?) Applebee's. I have to balance my checkbook and run the sweeper.

Quick check in. The last week of renovations! Being confined to two rooms with three cats and only one squeeky toy is not an exhilarating experience. However, the wood floors look fabulous. I so lucked out when they removed the carpeting and found the original wood floors in such good condition. They just needed staining and sealing--a very stinky process.
I had a shopping day Friday. A new ceiling fan for the renovation (with a remote control!), stock up on cat food and supplies (Petsmart had a sale) and a visit to a BIG Walmart superstore. I knew this trip was going to be spendy but everything was budgeted for and on my list for the next visit to the city, developed over the past two months, so I don't feel too bad.
I talked with Moneysquirrel Sunday and she had emailed Honeylioness about the Boston madness and got a reply that Honey and the girls are fine. Maybe she will drop by and give us more info. What stories the girls will have to take home.
Trimommy--This NSD stuff really works, but it is not a quick fix. Habits take a while to change. I have been on this board since 1/1/2008. Great friends and terrific support group and a great accountability method. Shanen gave good advice about setting your initial goal at "as many as I can get." Using that as a goal there is always room to stretch for "just one more NSD" and no failure if you have a month from hell and can't hit a specific number. I live in a very small town and online shopping can be dangerous for my budget as well. In the time I have been here I have reduced my budget drastically and boosted my savings. I went into a much reduced retirement budget with very little stress. I credit much of my success to this board and the help and support I got here. Check in as much or as little as you need and be sure ask questions. There is a lot of wisdom on this board. This is a journey you don't have to take alone.
3cats--GET THE MOP! Your back and knees will thank you.
Rocky-- What does it cost to replace a windshield? I have been putting this off for so long and I probably should do it.

It cost me $100 deductible. The guy originally said about $160 w/o insurance. It didn't interfere with my vision for driving, or I would have replaced it sooner. I think that's a ticketable offense depending on the crack.

A little story about setting and achieving NSD goals. This was my second month on the board.
You all are CORRUPTING me. I have 24/29 $0 spend days and I only have one day to make it 25. Coming home from work the low fuel light started blinking. I told my car "you are a PT Cruiser-so cruise!" then I kept coaching it every block. Then the emergency bell started to ding (less than one gallon , I think) I wanted those 25 days sooooo bad. I made it home without any gasping noises. But I still had to get to work tomorrow. I cleaned out my purse of loose change, I even emptied the gunk from the vacuum, raided the junk bowl in the kitchen, raided my quarter stash-still not enough. Then I remembered the parking change stashed in the car! I only need one gallon to get to and from work for one day. I "cruised" the four blocks to the service station ( 4 blocks all downhill), then pumped one gallon into the car went inside and counted out $3.19 in change. a NO SPEND day was achieved!!! I still have 17c . All that grief and drama for a smiley. I haven't pulled a stunt like that since prehistory when I was in high school. I'm just glad no one I knew was around. I know where I will be first thing Saturday morning. As I said you all are corrupting me, getting in my head and not letting me spend.

The past week has been spendy since we were on vacation in the Boston area - outside the lockdown area but couldn't see our friends who were in it until the last night. We still enjoyed eating out, sleeping, and drinking at the hotel bar. Probably gained five pounds...
I hope you all are well!

LOL, ses! I think the worst I did early on was to bum 12c from a co-worker so that I wouldn't go over my $5 spending limit for that day. The NSD's do get in your head, though. I went to a local scifi convention in Denver last weekend, and I had my eye on a really fun Han-Solo-Frozen-in-Carbonite wall decoration. But I'd made it the whole day without spending any money and I didn't want to break my NSD. Sadly, Han stayed at the booth and I got my NSD. Maybe next time....
