I know, this is an interview question everyone hates, but I'm going to ask it anyway.
Time for some serious self assessment, what are your strengths and weaknesses as a human being? It can be in any aspect of your life, but I (and by extension your fellow YM'ers) want to know.

I have emotional knee-jerk reactions. I've learned to hold them in, but they still exist. Stupid people piss me off. I'm a perfectionist and hate what I perceive others to be slackers. Not thatid mention that in an interview. I might say that I'm impatient in an interview. Strengths: I'm really bad at this part because my parents refused to ever let us acknowledge we had strengths.

For interview purposes, my strengths are that I am a quick learner, I work well either independently or in groups and I strive to complete my work correctly and in a timely fashion.
My weakness is that I am a tenacious problem solver and I won't give up until I find a solution. Or something like that -- I haven't had an interview since 1999 and those answers were from a list that my HS Guidance Counselor gave us.

Strengths: I'm really bad at this part because my parents refused to ever let us acknowledge we had strengths. Having a weakness wasn't acceptable in my household. My parents never acknowledged that they had any weaknesses. They never needed improving/changing. Weakness was failure. And, it wasn't just personal weaknesses. Accepting help from someone else (like having friend help you move, or bringing a dish of food to new parents, to using a food pantry or government assistance) made you weak and a failure. Going to see drs, dentists, unless you are dying, is also showing weakness.

Weakness: I overanalyze/think which can lead me into being unable to make a decision. At the same time being able to come up with multiple ideas makes me good at my job. It's a hard blanace.
Strength: I am good at self motivating and working independently. My PIs do not have to be in the lab holding my hand which means they are free to do what PIs do best and that's bring in grants
I'm also a fast learner and can self teach myself. I pretty much taught myself HPLC with occassional tutoring from my PI.
I can schmooze when I need to.
Weakness: I hate schmoozing and sometimes it shows in my expression. I find it a lot easier to suck up in email or on the phone.

This is a hard question for me to answer, but that's one of the reasons I put it forward to you guys.
Anyway, I think my strengths and weaknesses kind of overlap. Meaning I have certain personality traits that are good in some ways and not so good in others.
For example, I'm introverted, introspective, and analytical. Which is good (and a strength) because I tend to think before I act and often make logical and rational choices, and am relatively unaffected by other people's reactions to me. It also means I sometimes overnalayze things and have trouble relating to others.
I'm even keeled for the most part, which is good because most minor things in life don't get me down, but bad in that I don't get excited joyful much.
As far as actual skills, it's hard to say.
I know I'm not good at working with my hands or with tools, I'm not very "handy."
I do know I'm pretty good at remembering what I hear, not photographic memory by any means, but still I have a good audial memory.

This isn't an interview, it's a message board with complete strangers

As for the OP, it's a good question but I have to think about it.

I am a terrible communicator. I procrastinate. I can't organize, prioritize or delegate. I am late on deadlines and have a bad work ethic.
Who wants to hire me?

Strengths: I catch on quickly to new things, can learn new technology fairly quickly, and thanks to some confidence I found in my late 20s, I have learned how to talk and laugh with all types of people, including the type of people who would have intimidated me a few years ago.
Weaknesses: I tend to overthink and doubt myself. I can be pretty selfish and lazy. I have a hard time forsaking present pleasure for future gain. I'm bossy. I'm a control freak. I can be pretty hard on myself. I can be a button pusher. I like to look.... a lot (but ONLY LOOKING!!!!).

Strengths - Empathy. Resilience. Sense of Humor. Weakness - I am lazy and unmotivated, but content. I could be/do more than I am/do, but I don't wanna.

I think my greatest strength is my willingness to take responsibility for my actions. It's something I work at constantly, but I've come a long way in the years I have been working on it. Also, my life has consistently gotten better since I started working on it.
Other strengths are my ability to make money (if not always *manage* it very well, ahem), and to write. I'm also really good at choosing friends.
One of my greatest weaknesses is my inability to judge character (I know that sounds incompatible with the last strength I listed and sometimes it is but they're both true anyway). That one has bitten me hard LOTS of times. Sometimes I also suck at being flexible and "going with the flow." I have a bad temper and I can be hugely judgmental because I tend toward a black and white lens more often than not. The older I get, the more shades of gray I see.

Strengths - Attention to detail. I have been told repeatedly by the reviewers at the City that my plans are the best that they see and I try to keep it that way.
Weakness - I struggle a lot with new things. If I don't know it, I struggle getting going. I make excuses not to work on it and i hang out here a lot. Most of the time it isn't nearly as scary as I think it is. Part of that is that I am a perfectionist and it is hard to be perfect on something you are doing for the first time. The good news is that I recognize that and am learning to suck it up.

I'm not sure whether this is a strength or a weakness - but I tend to defer to those around me with more experience in a certain area.
I'd call that a strength, personally. The opposite is arrogance in my opinion.

I'll list the ones off the top of my head:
Weaknesses:
Impatient. No longer enjoy learning computer/tech crap but will at least try with lots of whining added. Very anal and particular (but that could be strengths too with certain things) about stuff. Have a bad temper and won't put up with much shit. Becoming more antisocial and more lazy. Find many people narcissistic and annoying and avoid them as much as possible lately. Finding it harder and harder to bite my tongue. Very weak when it comes to animals and my heart is constantly being broken. Impatient.
Strengths:
Ummmm....
Still thinking...

I've decided to stop thinking of them as "weaknesses and strengths."
There are certain skills I have that are very valuable, and there are certain situations where I don't do my optimal performance.
My skills are things like data management, technology application, meeting the businesses needs. In my personal life, my skills are planning ahead, organization, etc.
I'm not optimal in situations where I don't get any feedback. I don't need a lot of managing, but I want to know that I'm going in the right direction a couple times during any project. That is true in home and personal. I know my husband will say "Whatever you want" but I still show him the paint color before I buy it. I guess I'm needy, but not very needy. I used to talk to my boss about once a week for 20 minutes. Is that a lot for someone who is managing large scale processes in another state?

Strengths - Hard working, willing to take responsibility when I mess up and I never turn down extra work or new projects.
Weaknesses - Communicating especially when it comes to explaining things in a context others will understand and I tend to talk fast which doesn't help. I also need to work more on seeing the bigger picture as it's something I've struggled with at times as I get too bogged down in the daily entries after years of focusing on those details.
I'm definitely an introvert which is a strength and a weakness as an accountant because I'm fine doing things on my own and rather prefer it that way but at the same time to become a manager I have to supervise others.

I operate pretty independently but I need to know if I am on the timeline I need to be on for certain projects. Feedback allows me to prioritize better.
