" your life will be much, much better if you can work on allowing imperfection. " Well I accept that actually and my house is nowhere near as clean as how my parents house was/is. First of, I have pets!!! I keep my dogs outside of the living room and bedrooms but my cat roams freely. But I dont wear shoes at home. I guess i was just upset because my son has an ear infection and he was fine until he went back to daycare.

Yeah, it's a pretty normal reaction for us moms to be protective of our little guys, especially when they're sick.
Not to freak you out, though, but what you're describing is going to be the norm, not the exception for the years your guy is in daycare and public school. So I'm just trying to prepare you so you can decide if that's OK or not. If you do some soul searching and decide that it's just not OK, then bite the bullet and get a nanny so you will have control over the sanitation practices and what exposure the little guy gets to other kids. Because let's be very honest here - you are going to have little to no control over the sanitation practices and other kids at a daycare setting.
So make your choice and make peace... or it will be a long, frustrating 4 more years for you.

DD has one right now, but I'm sure it's because I let her go out without a hat. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

Oh I know. I am not freaking out but just always have what the NICU doctors said in the back of my mind. He may be sicker or stay sick longer than full term babies. I would bite the bullet and hire a nanny in a heartbeat if I could find one to trust. I prefer the daycare setting because if one caregiver is bad, there are others around. I am terried of leaving him alone with one stranger, where if they treat him bad, I wouldn't know. I guess I am a bit paranoid.

Well, some of that paranoia is understandable but just pick your poison. No solution is going to be perfect.

I don’t believe ear infections are contagious, are they? DH’s mother was a SAHM and he had ear infections constantly as a child. I was a latchkey kid and I’ve NEVER had an ear infection.

He may be sicker or stay sick longer than full term babies.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Well if it makes you feel better for the really bad stuff that could pose a serious risk to your kid the daycare legally has to notify you of it. Every once and awhile I come in and find a posting about something like RSV, head lice, pink eye etc. By state law they have to notify us parents that there has been an exposure at the daycare. Little stuff like colds/sniffles/ear infections they don’t have to tell you about and milee is right, they are going to be par the course if you are planning to have your kid around other people.

He gets the synagis shot for RSV (at least this season, don't know about next) but I dont know if there is anything preventative for others other than good hygiene.

My MIL packs up my DS (9 months) in a fleece blanket sleeper, in the car seat under a fleece blanket with a hat and he fusses the whole ride home - as soon as we get home I pull off the hat he's been sweating in so much that his hair is wet. We're in MA so it's pretty darn cold here.

I'm not going to fight with her. She'll tell me when she's cold. The kid runs around the hockey arena at her brother's practice with her coat off.

LOL, my kids wouldn't go out from November to March. The schools here do that also. As well as they can't go out if it is the least bit rainy or windy. I always say my kids have winter clothes but the other parents act like I am suggesting sending them on an expidition to the artic for wanting them to go outside and play everyday. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/faint.gif)

MIL always yells at us about hats. If it is 50 outside I am not going to fight with the kid when she doesn’t want to wear a hat. MIL’s favorite phrase is “She’ll get the colic!” every time she didn’t wear a hat. DH’s comeback is “She’s two, we don’t have to worry about colic anymore”. Her second favorite phrase is Gwen has croup because she is “allergic those damn dogs you need to get rid of them”. Uh. ..croup is a virus and dog croup is not the same as people croup so our dogs aren’t the culprit there. Nice try.

That's alright. My former in-laws were certain that the cat would suck the breath out of DS. DS almost 30 now and breathes just fine. The cat wanted nothing to do with that noisy, smelly thing called a baby.

Do the young ones at your day care go around licking the floor?

Probably. Mine licked our kitchen floor and who knows what else when I wasn't looking. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/sad.png)

My kids used to lick the dog. I guess they thought since she licked them, it was OK.

WHAT she was eating I have no clue since I would catch her after she was done chewing it. It didn’t ever make her sick so I pretended I didn’t see it happen. What I don’t know can’t gross me out.

My other thought is that it could be sensory. My oldest has sensory issues, particularly with hot and cold. Maybe this 1 year old hates having her legs covered.

Today i was dropping of my son at daycare. This little girl about 1 was wearing a dress with a thin long sleeve shirt under and teeny tiny short socks! Her legs were naked up to her diaper! It was about 40 degrees out and i dont think it even got to 50 all day! I cannot imagine going outside like that myself in that weather, let alone having my baby go out like that. Would you? The part that gets to me is everytime i see this girl her nose is runny. Now my son has a runny nose and an ear infection. I cant help but think her parents' ignorance got her sick and she got my son sick. Is this unreasonable to think? Am i being too overprotective by dressing my child in layers? Ugh. I hate when people do that! My kids are teenagers and I still make them at least wear a coat when it's cold out.

I have let DD decide her clothing choices since she figured out how to dress herself.
However, and she is well aware of it, if she puts on a tank top in February she is going to be adding a sweater to her outfit. No arguments.

My DD stopped wearing a coat the winter of Kindergarten (at 32lbs - she's all skin/bones). Short of snow, she wears a hoodie. We fought over it for a couple months, but in the end I could only force her to wear it when I was around. As soon as the bus pulled away from the bus stop the coat went off. It seemed silly to fight over it anymore. DD is not stupid. If she was cold enough she'd wear it.
It seems to be a general theme in the elementary schools here. You see kids out at recess and they are running around in hoodies or shirts. Coats will be piled on the ground by the fence. Hell, the lost and found at each kid's school is FILLED with winter coats. I don't get it as I'm honestly always in 2-3 layers and still freezing, but kids seem to be a different breed.

Do the young ones at your day care go around licking the floor? Probably at mine as well. I know some of them definitely lick the tall floor-to-ceiling windows next to the door in the toddler class. I see someone doing that almost every afternoon when I pick DS up. Makes me laugh every time.

I bowed out of my teens' clothing decisions long ago Why watch them walk outside when it's single digit temps without a coat? Then I'll get to hear the bitching and moaning when they are sick. No thanks. Anyway, if I say to do something, I expect it to be done. In my house when I say to do something, you do it without question. I don't control what they wear. Hell, I even let my oldest dye her hair blue once. I don't care if you want to go out looking like you got dressed in the dark. But I do mind when you get sick because you're a dork and you thought it'd be acceptable to go out without a coat on.
