it goes back to the 30s but the original intention was one of logistics, I believe. And under the present admin it has exploded for political bribery. here's how it's funded. we pay for it through fees on our phone bills that the telcos then "contribute" to an administrative company under the FCC. universal service contributions from telecommunications carriers collected by a non profit(unelected) who use the money to "administer universal support mechanisms (programs) designed to help communities across the country secure access to affordable telecommunications services." USAC carries out its functions as the administrator of the federal universal service programs and universal service fund (USF) under the oversight of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). it's a quasi govt agency, imho.

that's fine, they can use the food stamps to buy fast food. Lest, we forget the free cell phones at paying consumers (taxpayers in welfare society parlance) so they can keep in contact with their crack pusher and pimp. Another liberal pay off for their vote in November. I think you mean keep in touch with their small business owner and job creator

I just re-read the Buffet interview from this morning with Buffet on CNBC. I misunderstood Buffet's statement about reparation of overseas corporate profits. I thought they were talking about Buffet. The conversation was referring to John Chambers and CISCO and their 49 billlion dollars held hostage overseas.
Sorry for the incorrrect statement.
I did find it interesting Teresa Heinz's Federal tax rate was described as being at 12%. She is a Democrat, isn't she? At least the sale was in 2013 and not 2012. She and John will have a handsome tax bill next year.
Those damn evil Republicans!

There can never be enough threads to bash liberals. Poor people are simply collateral damage due to their insistence of demanding the government to give them everything, because it is easier than doing something for themselves, and use their votes to perpetuate the welfare state. Forgive them. They do not know what they do.

I don't understand calling it a payoff. I would think Heinz is a good company to buy. I'm pretty sure the buyers are going to make money off of this deal. and Kerry has to divest himself of particular stocks, including Heinz due to his position of Secretary of State. His wife, however, does not.

If you are using Heinz ketchup in the real bottles and not the plastic squeeze ones, hit the bottle on the side where the 57 is, it comes out.

Berkshire Hathaway and 3 G announced today they are purchasing Heinz Corp for $72.50 per share or, 28 billion dollars this morning. And the big winner in this transaction.? Teresa and John Kerry. She owns 12% of Heinz and wins the pay off of about a billion and a half dollars. Birds of a feather...... Heinz is also a big winner on the foodstamp landscape as poor people buy Heinz Ketchup on the government dole, so you the taxpayer are paying for this buy off of a politician (granted, a former Senator) through future foodstamp purchases of Heinz products. Wanna bet there is a huge increase in retail price of Ketchup to pay for this deal that you are bankrolling? sure. i will take that bet. table condiments are among the most competitive sectors in food processing. how much you want to bet? i will bet you $500 that the price of Ketchup will not rise more than 10% over the next (12) months.

Heinz had raised wholesale prices over 4% in the last 15 months all on their own. It is not beyond comprehension 3 G and Buffet will raise prices to help pay for the buy out. Most companies do this automatically as this is the reason they buy the company in the first place. They know their is a demand for the product and can have consumers accept the price increase. dj, please do not forget, if they cut back on off billing to grocery wholesalers, this is also a price increase to the consumer without raising the actual price. There are ways for actually raising the cost of product without really raising the acual wholesale cost, but I know you already knew that.

poor people don't vote very often. According to the President, everyone but the one percenters are poor people. I do believe they were the reason this President was re-elected really? would you like to find a quote where the president said that? and there are a lot of reasons why the president was re-elected. the Hispanic vote is one. the youth vote is another. women would be a third. you don't need to even touch the poor demographic to get him a W.

It does not matter whether they raise it 1% or 10%. Unless their actual cost of goods and production go up, there should be NO PRICE INCREASE. As I said before, if they reduce off billing premiums in the future, this is also a price increase that is not recognized, as is downsizing the bottle without lowering prices. You as OWNER of a manufacturing company know this process all too well.

I'm pretty sure the cell phones for the poor people, was a program started under GWB. and personally, i think it is a really good programme. i can articulate why if anyone is interested, but it is a measurable distance from the OP.

You as OWNER of a manufacturing company know this process all too well. indeed i do. but i am niche marketer. if you don't know that term, it means that my market is not price sensitive, and that i can raise prices to "as much as the market will bear" without fear of losing work (80% of my work is non-competitively bid). it is TOTALLY DIFFERENT for bulk commodities like mustard and ketchup. a 1% increase that is not materially cost-reflective can be devastating to a product that is sitting next to 20 others in a grocery store. but Heinz is a marquee brand, so they might survive it.
