He may not be able to change the corporate tax structure per se but he can allow tax credits for businesses and that is what I think he is trying to do which is a good thing as you know Both Tesla and A123 are up @ 5% today on heavy volume/ trading Not really.

Yes Really.. I am trying to get some details on the possible amendment to President Obama's electric vehicle tax credit (@$7500)..: the Department of Energy has said that the credit may be available at point of sale.
Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA) sees a recent spike to $25 and is now trading up $1.38 to $24.45 on news the Obama administration will announce new credits for electric vehicles (unconfirmed). Options action is heating up as well, with 2,345 call and 405 puts traded. TSLA Feb 25 Calls are the most actives with 1,132 traded (89% Ask). TSLA Mar 27 Calls are seeing some interest as well. Implied volatility is up 8% to 67. Other electric car and suppliers A123 Systems (NASDAQ: AONE) and Ener1 (NASDAQ: HEV) are also moving on the news.
A123 Systems Inc. (AONE US) jumped 6.6 percent to $9.92, the biggest gain since Jan. 12. The lithium-ion battery maker and electric-car maker Tesla Motors Inc. (TSLA US) gained after the Energy Department said on a call President Barack Obama’s proposed budget will include a $7,500 credit for electric vehicles.
Telsa climbed 6.2 percent to $24.49. UQM Technologies Inc. (UQM US) surged 30 percent to $3.67, the most since August 2009. The Longmont, Colorado-based maker of electric motors will supply electric drive motors for Audi’s A1 e-tron test-fleet

It is not he job of the government to pay companies to make electric cars. If Tesla produces a product that people want to pay for then they should do it, but if they need subsidies to do it then they are not viable.

The problem with electric cars [and lots of other "green" industries] is that they are not economically feasible w/o government subsidy ~ which means they aren't economically feasible and will simply be a drain on the federal budget. But it does keep a bunch of simpletons happy ~ I guess that's worth driving the deficit higher. I still hope that the President will adopt some practical policies which will encourage industry which is actually viable and not just more government boondoggles. If he talks to some actual businessmen who are actually in the business of producing anything he may come up with some good ideas which, with his mastery of persuasive techniques, he may slip past the left wing of his party. Hope springs eternal. Hope springs eternal in the human breast: Man never is, but always to be blest. The soul, uneasy and confined from home, Rests and expatiates in a life to come. Alexander Pope

The other misconception is that electricity is clean and green when most of it is currently made by burning coal. While electricity is primarily a domestic product and may have the potential of being "green" it is certainly not clean energy today.

Ok do some research on this subject then we can have an intelligent discussion about electricity as a green power source for vehicles
