Hate the snow and ice but love it the other 9 months here so I guess I'll stay here. You know the line from the song that goes " if you're ever going to see a rainbow you have got to stand a little rain..." That about sums it up.

I love the south. Always wanted to live where it was warm and now I'm there. Unfortunately, DF lives in the midwest so I am stuck there until he retires but retirement is looking sooner all the time especially thanks to the weather!!!

DH and I have been in FL for 20 years (me) and 25 (him). He is from NWPA, and I am from WI. We dearly miss the change of seasons, yes even the snow. We are so far from most of our family that we are seriously considering some place like eastern TN which puts is more central to family, and more of driveable trips, and we get the seasons, but not the bitter cold winters like where we grew up!
GO PACK! ;D

I would love to live someplace in the South or in a place like Costa Rica or Belize. I currently live in Michigan and absolutely HATE the cold. We leave in 4 months and I can't wait! I am hoping we never have to move back here even though I will miss all of my friends and SOME family.

I think I would like to split it between a couple of places since I don't like extreme heat and humidity or cold. The Pacific Northwest is pretty nice but it is grey and wet in the winter.
On the other hand, no change can get monotonous. I spent nearly a year in Indonesia on Balikpapan. They don't even have a wet and dry season like lots of Indonesia have, it's just pretty much low 80s each day with a fair bit of rain.

I would like to play snowbird if only work did not get in the way. A house on a lake up north and a winter place down south. ETA Yeah I am a full member now

I don't like either the winters or summers in the Midwest.
If I had the money, I'd like to have a home in AZ for the winter and I'd suffer through summer here. However, I know it will never happen.
My true dream is to live in the UK, but I can't emigrate there.

I agree with taxpro, I am quite the Anglophile and I'd like to live in the UK, yet Europe in general seems appealing as well.

Ireland. Looks kind of like home (I'm a Pacific Northwesterner) and I could easily fall in love with a man that had an Irish or Scottish accent <<swoon>> Both Scotland and Ireland are beautiful countries and I got confused for a local until I had to speak

When I was in Edinburgh I met a super hot...............................monk! Not sure what kind, don't care, he was hot <<drool>> I was able to understand people when they spoke to me, but when they were speaking to each other? notsomuch. Kind of like when I was in Virgina--I was in the hotel at the same time as one of the hockey teams (the Vikings?) and as I got in the elevator one asked if I could "hold the door, please." After three others came in I couldn't understand a word! It was hilarious, I know they were speaking English, but, wow...

If I could afford it (& I can't because it would cost an arm & a leg) I would buy a little piece of land outside our town. Then I would have our house moved to it. Not possible of course because the rock would have to be taken off & then put back on.
So.....one day we might buy a little house or cabin outside of town & just use it for a get a way place.

I love the lush beauty of the Deep South, but I could never live there because of the humidity. When I was in South Carolina I had a heat stroke that very nearly killed me. It gets hellaciously hot here in the summer, but it's bearable because there's no humidity.
If I had my druthers, it would be to move to Monterey Bay, CA. I love it there.

We did it 5 years ago. I wanted to move back home closer to my sister, brother, and my folks. DH and I knew that we wanted to be close to my sister and her hubby in retirement. DH started looking into a job transfer with his company. He was given an offer of a better paying job and the company gave him a very generous relocation package that paid for the sale of our old home, closing costs on our new home, moving costs, a wad of cash for "incidentals" (about $5K), etc. So not only did we get to move to a place where we wanted to be after he retires, but it ended up being quite lucrative.
And how fortunate, because three years after the move back home my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I was able to spend a lot of time with him in his last (4) years of life - something that to me was absolutely priceless.

I've always dreamed of living in London for a year or so- but I wouldn't want it to be forever.
My forever dream place is probably Hawaii. or maybe Savannah. I love the old architecture in Savannah.

I love Vienna ... altho I'm not sure I would want to be there all year. Here in the US I would choose the Oregon coast. I love the ocean and forest.

If I had all the money I wanted and my kids were grown - San Francisco - right in the city.
If I wanted to retain a life similiar to mine now, working, single family home, and having school aged children - but I had to leave Arizona, I would go to Denver.

If I had my druthers, it would be to move to Monterey Bay, CA. I love it there. Our little slice of heaven ain't bad. Course, it's so damn expensive that you're practically forced to sell your organs to get a house. We're a little ways inland right now (didn't want to sell any body parts), so if I had my druthers I agree with you somewhere on the Monterey Bay. Specifically right on the bay. I want my back yard to be the beach.

Yeah, houses are expensive there. I just hit a real estate website, and it looks from here like the housing crash never hit there. Then again, I have utterly no idea what prices were before the crash. I guess desirable places to live will always command the highest prices. Still, I love it there. The locals are far more tourist-friendly than San Francesspool, the climate is better, and I "know" the town far better. I wouldn't even need beach front property or to be in Monterey/Carmel proper, just in the general vicinity.

The sad part is that the crash did hit here. Prices now are still high, but during the bubble they were completely insane high. Our $280k house out in the sticks would have been $500k+ if we bought a couple years earlier. And we aren't even on the bay, or in a known area. It's crazy.

I would love to live in the Haight district of San Francisco. We stopped at a game store there this last time we were in the city and I could totally see myself living there happily. I would also move down the street from my friend who lives in Plymouth, UK. Though we'd both prefer to buy a plot of land and build two houses on it and have goats and chickens. But I think I'd have to divorce my husband first.
To be honest though - these are more my retirement places. Kinda. I think I'd move to the Haight in a second if I could afford it.

BF and I both would love to live abroad, though we differ on the location. We don't own a house yet and we don't want children, so we could go for it if we were serious. Thankfully, we love where we live in SE PA.
