I didn't think there was anything the doctor could do for the flu or a cold. my mom got a steroid shot & Tamiflu. And I kinda hope dr's can do something considering it put my gramma in the hospital last Tuesday. If they get the Tamiflu onboard within the first 48 hours after symptom presentation, it should help. It might not completely prevent the illness, but it can definitely shorten the severity and duration.

Good for you, lonewolf. I've been coughed on by kids who choked, and adults who choked, and my mother who was just clearing her throat. None of them were sick.

People can cough without having to be sick. Heck, I've had more than one coughing fit because I sucked down a cat hair accidentally while loving on my cats. Hubby has days when he has coughing fits because he had to go into the flour silo or the bakery was running bread with cinammon or rosemary in it. He wasn't sick or allergic, it's just all over the place in such a fine powder that he'll have a coughing fit.

LOL! Yeah, I suspect mother's coughing episode came more from cat fur than the need to clear her throat. She was pretty much surrounded at the time. ;D

I guess the people I'm around keep their mouths covered when coughing. Works great when you know the cough is coming. Also works great when you're not a little kid. Whatever, lonewolf. You'll believe whatever you want to believe and do whatever you want to do. That's just peachy with me.

Just kinda happens when there's a cat sleeping on each side of you at night....lol

Both mother and I spend most of our nights graced by sleeping cats, steff. It's a blessing ... at least, the cats would have me believe it's a blessing.

My girls have their own space in bed with me...one on each side of my pillow...I love it and they love it. It only becomes a problem on the nights hubby & I are sleeping in the bed at the same time. My girls want their spots & one of them is his pillow...LOL We've already joked that when he retires, we're gonna have bed issues. We're both just so used to sleeping in their by ourselves because of his work schedule. 1 night a week we fight over a king sized bed in our sleep...

ROFL! We got mother's cat a special pillow so she wouldn't insist on sprawling all over mother's extra pillow. Mother likes to use it to raise her head a bit. Now, Sylvia sleeps on the contoured pillow with the lace-edged pillowcase. My meezer sleeps with her head on my outstretched arm and one foot on each side of my face, or my neck. Every once in awhile, they'll both decide they need to be with the same person. Since they don't get along, that's not a happy time around here. Thankfully, the token male sleeps by himself ... in the cat bed, of all places!

Miss Oreo sleeps on my left, on a warm fuzzy blanket that she wads up under the edge of my pillow. If the blanket isn't there, she has a fit and will complain all night. She likes to duck under my pillow into a tight little fur ball. Miss Tippi just sprawls out on hubby's side of the bed. On his pillow, half way down the bed, sometimes under the blankets...if she can't have those places, then she sleeps ON me. Hubby says she "log rolls me" in my sleep. If I turn over, she stands up, walks ON me as I turn over & then lays back down ON me & gets comfy. Tippi also snores....very loudly. She woke me up one morning sleeping ON me, with her head right by my ear & she was sawing some serious logs that morning.

I've had coughing 'fits' - probably from cat hair - or almost anything else in their air that isn't necessarily a virus - like microscopic particles of pepper or spices from cooking, dust from sifting flour, etc, etc, etc. It's not always the flu. Even swallowing something and it lodging for a few seconds might make me break out in sneezing or coughing - even aromas from air fresheners or colognes. Vacuuming will even stir up miniscule particles of dust to set off a sneezing spell.

I go into a coughing fit every time I make my jerk marinade to put on my chicken. Dust is another thing that gets me coughing. And coming into my house after being out walking in really cold air.

I always thought that by the time you showed symptoms, you had already been contagious for a couple of days. True? Not true? If true, it's too late, you already infected your whole workplace. I've heard that it's true, but can't see how if someone isn't sneezing or snotting near you. Breathing. Touching the same doorknobs, phones etc...

I have sick time. I had dedicated sick time at most jobs I've had - I think one of them was a "personal day" policy, but the rest had specific sick time. I've never been a union employee.

I cough like crazy when I suck spit into my lungs. I don't know why it happens.
DH coughs because soft breads get caught in his throat.
We sound like a couple of gacking old great grandparents.
