That doesn't sound crazy at all; have fun! How are you feeling? I have an 8.4 mile race on Sunday (my first race over 7 miles) and I have a FREE (whee!!) winter solstice trail 10k (with eggnog and fruitcake station!) on the 21st. Then I will finally relax for a couple of weeks (hopefully). I am going to hit my 2014 goal on Sunday (log 400 miles) and my 2015 goals are to run Broad Street (10 miles) and the Philly Half in November, so I need a healed tailbone already! Philly!? I love Philly! We are going to visit there next year! Yes, this Sunday is a tuneup for the following Sunday's quarter-marathon. I feel pretty good; the area around the right knee still looks banged up, but it feels OK. I get a break in January, then up to Melbourne for an 8K race at the very end of the month. Glad to hear you're doing well post-surgery! I live in the immediate burbs/work in the city. Philly has a great running community!

We were there a few years ago, but only for a few hours. We loved it, and want to come back. Sometime in October, 2015, we will be there.

5K this weekend...wondering how I will do, since my comparison time is before both surgeries. Fast, flat course, weather in the mid sixties at the start, no rain and little if any cloud cover. Race starts at 6:45, just before the sun comes up, and that will help a lot in terms of the heat. There is also a 1/2 and full marathon; those folks will have it tougher, as temperatures will get into the eighties pretty fast.

Good luck Nancy.
I am debating whether to do a 5k in my town on Sunday. I have done it the past few years with a friend but he isn't running this year. It starts at 10:00, which is kind of late and ends up feeling like it wastes a lot of the day, but they have it later so the temps hopefully get up into the 30s for race start.

I hate late starts like that. And I agree...they do seem to waste the day. I'm skipping a swim meet next week, because the start times are noon Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Seriously? I have stuff to do, people! I get the temperature thing, though. But isn't that what tights and gloves and ear muffs are for?

Race is done. My pre-race workout consisted of hauling stuff for our running club from our treasurer's car to the set up site. Not a big distance, but up and down a short, steep hill over and over. Must have worked. I set a new personal best, 34 seconds better than my last one two and a half years ago. And comparing pre- and post-surgery times, there's about a two-minute difference now. Dayum. Doc is now really, really a rock star god.

I finished my 8.4 mile race in 1:28:01! I was not confident at all when I woke up, but I think I kicked ass for me! The first four miles were windy as hell. This makes me think that a 1:40 goal for Broad Street is doable. Thankfully I have until May to get more practice!
Good job on your 5k Nancy!

Thanks! Final race of the year on Sunday: the quarter marathon. Weather should be good (about 60 degrees or so at the start, with temps only getting into the 70s). No rain, flat course, with a very small part of it on hard-packed sand (not something I like to run on, but the organizers say that it is hard-packed enough for wheelchairs to use, so I hope that is firm enough for me. I hate soft sand/trails!)

Tried to post earlier, but my post was eaten...
Did well at the race, about 20 seconds faster per mile than a comparable 10K last year. This race was longer, and I could have been even faster, had the last mile not been run on bricks, followed by beach sand. Sheesh....like there weren't enough roads around for the organizers to use. Whoever designed the course should have been dragged on it BY their feet! A very disorganized event, from beginning to end, but I was happy with my time.

Ran my first trail 10k today. It was the hardest race I've ever done but it was so awesome! A very rewarding challenge.
I've also realized over the past few weeks that I'm apparently a good cold weather runner. I'm down to a 9:35 average pace; I'm usually 10-10:20 depending on temperature (or 11 minutes, in the case of a 10k I ran in 90 degree heat and 80% humidity, lol). Forty degrees (or less!) is my jam!

WOOT!!!!!!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! On your 10K. I like colder weather for running, too, though we don't get much of it. I have a race next month in central FL, so that one could be chilly. It's an 8K, a distance I've never done. I've done much longer races, and much shorter; this is just an oddball race.

Speaking of training...I am doing some elevation training tomorrow. No real hills here, just bridges, so that's what I will use. I have decided against the 8K race and going to a 10K instead. It's closer to home (90 minute drive instead of 2 1/2 hours) and since both had elevation changes, I chose the shorter drive/longer race. Should be a pretty run, since it's near the beach and over a causeway. Won't be a long running session, just a hard one.
Two swim meets in February, in addition to the 10K. No runs yet in March, but looking.

Congrats to your wife Ratchets!
Good luck on the 10k Nancy!
Nothing going on here. I made a New Year's resolution to get back to running at least 3 days/week, and I had been keeping it up, but I got some stomach bug yesterday and it has knocked me flat. Next week is a new week.

I was supposed to run at Disney next month, but I am going to defer, again. Mostly just can't get everything together for the trip and I haven't been running. Plus the baby will only be 8 months old ad with the measles thing at Disneyland, I don't want to take her around that many people before she's had that vaccine.

Not for you, (I'd like to see you get back to your routine) but for your mini (steph1/2 ). That measles thing is nothing to take lightly. When do babies get those shots nowadays?

She's had a lot of shots so far, I can't remember all of them (Hep B? Hip something? Tdap), but MMR doesn't start until 1 year old.

Congrats to your wife, Ratchets! When I run my first half I'll just be excited to finish!
I'm registered for two 5 milers, one in March and one in April. The April one is in Valley Forge Park so it will be a good hilly challenge. Lottery registration for the Broad Street Run opens on Sunday, will find out that I'm in on February 17.
Been sticking to a weekend run outside schedule since it's almost dark when I get home from work. Even if it's cold as hell I'm out there Saturdays and Sundays! Bought gortex sneakers (asics cumulus 16 gtx) so snow and rain are no longer excuses!

Got back from my 10K about two hours ago. Very pleased with my medal, for second place age group!
My time was almost exactly the same as it was for my 10K two weeks ago (30 second slower), but today's race had four elevation changes (twice over the same causeway), whereas the race two weeks ago was perfectly flat. And we had a strong wind out of the east climbing over the bridge heading east. So, to bget so close to my time two weeks ago, with the elevation change and the wind - I am very happy with it!

I've done the Pittsburgh marathon, but never run a race in Philly. We'll be up there in October on vacation. It's a challenge for sure, but you have time. You can do this!

It's good timing. Broad Street (10 miles) is May 3, so I will have five weeks to build upon that!

And if you can do a 10-miler, a half-marathon is no problem. That's a good strategy.
I'm still working on whatever my next race will be. None for the next two weekends, then a possible 10K on 2/22. Swim meet the following weekend, and a 5K on either the 8th or 15th of March. A weekend off, then a three-day swim meet.
Not sure about April yet. still looking at that.

How old are most of you runners? I am 52 and keep putting off a race thinking I won't make it through - even a 5K.

Soon to be 57...still running 5K and 10K races. Gave up anything much longer than that.
Did a swim meet yesterday...took 10 seconds off my 50 yard freestyle and over a minute off my 500 yard freestyle. Not satisfied, but quite happy with that.

I'm 29 - I didn't start seriously running until I was 26.
I did run one year of track in high school, but I was mid-distance (400 and 800).

Another 10K in the books, and another 2 minutes off my previous best time.
However, this was a flat course (the last one had a twice-over-the-bridge elevation change in it). But I'll take whatever I can get.
