Just googling about running in my area and I found this race, which happened a few months ago. How did I miss it??
"The feature event is the Moe's Burrito 5k which will begin at 9:15am (participants may choose the "non-burrito" version of the 5k). If the Burrito 5k option is selected, participants will be required to run/walk 3 miles, eat a Moe's Southwest Grill Burrito, then finish the last 0.1 miles of the course. Your finishing time will include the time it takes you to eat the burrito. If the non-burrito race option is selected, participants will skip the Moe's Burrito station and finish the 5k run/walk regularly."

My knee has been hurting. Today it is the worst it has been. I hope I didn't tear anything. Damn it I am getting old!

That sucks, Arch.
Only knee pain I have experienced is on the outside of the knee, and that is related to my IT band. If it is the outside that hurts, I recommend a foam roller and rolling the outside of your leg from the hip joint down to the knee. Otherwise, I have no advice.
Still running here, but definitely not doing the half in November. I just have no time to get my long runs in, especially since it is hunting season so my DH is out in the woods and unable to watch the tater tot. Sticking to 3-5 miles, longer if she takes a good nap, but the treadmill is the devil.

At the halfway point. Archie, is that you in the green shirt? <<Looks around for Mrs. Archie>> Holy crap...who knew you were such a hottie? Speaking of health, I'm on the downside of seasonal allergies right now. My face is all swollen (I put my swim goggles on this morning, and did not have to tighten the straps). I feel like crap, so no races until next month (a 5K before my leg surgeries and a four-miler after the surgeries are done). December could be interesting. On one weekend alone, I have a choice of a 5K, 10K, a swim meet and a quarter-marathon. I'm intrigued by the 1/4 marathon. It's being organized by tennis player Serena Williams, who I met at another running event last year. She's very nice, BTW. But dayum, she's huge.

My knee has been feeling better, so I went on a run last night. Felt pretty good, but not 100% normal. Maybe 95%. My calf was extra tight because I think I was compensating a bit by running on my toes slightly more.

I'm heading out tonight for a run, after two weeks of very little running. I have to get out there...I have a race on Nov. 9.

Well, I did it. Registered for a 1/4 marathon. Really. It's in Miami next month. Serena Williams is putting on the race; tons of celebrity-types are supposed to be coming in for it. Well, why not...it's winter everywhere else, right?
Also decided to book a hotel down there. I got a nice room in an Art Deco hotel, halfway between the race start/finish line and the packet pickup location, so we won't need to drive anywhere (it's a three block walk to the race start; I'll pick up my race packet before going to the hotel Saturday).

I did the Run the Bridge 10k (Ben Franklin Bridge) on Sunday. Set a PR, though I was 11 seconds slower than the time I wanted to hit. Oh well! I'm considering an 8.4 miler in December, but I also need to watch how much I run for a couple of months. I hurt my tailbone in July and it is still bothering me. I am hoping to do Broad Street and a half next year, so I need to be good but I don't wanna. I want to hit my mileage goal for this year; only 50 miles to go!

I'm doing the quarter-marathon to prep for two slightly longer events: the Seven Mile Bridge Run in April, and the Melbourne 8K in February. I hope I can get into the Seven Mile Bridge race; they open the race registration in early February for 1,500 runners, with a set number of those going to residents of the Florida Keys, and then the remaining for the rest of the world. I did the very first one, and I'd like to do this one once more, before I stop competing.

Nancy - Sounds fun! I hope you get into the other events as well! Meghan - Rest now or you will be resting more later after you have injured yourself further or aggravated your injury! I know it sucks but don't push yourself too far! As for me, I'm a loser. I just have no motivation right now - I did 3 miles last week but that's it. I am heading out to do 3 or 4 now, but with the weather changing, I just don't have the motivation to run. With the kiddo, it is hard to run while at home - the treadmill sometimes wakes her up and it is too dark when I get home to go outside (we live in the boonies with no streetlights, etc.).

Tomorrow will be my first "dark in the afternoon" run, too. I'm off tomorrow for a senior swim meet, but I have two late afternoon appointments, so I figure I might as well run before dinner. But it will still be dark by then. We also live in a no-streetlight zone. I need to get this run in, because I have a race next Sunday.

Each week there are two 3-milers, one 3-5-miler, and then the long run.

I have no plans to do anything close to a half or full again. Like you sixty is closing in pretty soon, and I like the idea of running as long as possible into the proverbial sunset, not just running a long race.

OK, last race done, with surgery Thursday. Cool and rainy day, with a good 39 minutes flat for the 5K. Not bad.
Next race is a four-miler a week after surgery.

Good luck with your surgery, Nancy! Thanks. I will miss my "normal" activity for six days (three days for each leg), but in the long run, I know this will make things better. Bandages should come off sometime next Monday. I'll be able to walk, and will in fact need to do a lot of walking during the healing period. But no bike (cannot fit compression shorts over the bandages) and no swimming (cannot get the leg wet). He did not say I couldn't run, but I doubt it will be possible, given a hip to ankle bandage.

Bandages come off in five hours. Not that I am counting or anything. Can swim tomorrow, if the itchiness isn't too bad (I have Benadryl). Light run allowed Wednesday night, second surgery Thursday. Same routine with bandages until next Monday, then a four mile race on Thanksgiving. I am certifiably nuts.

I take it everything went well with the surgery Nancy? Second surgery is over; it took place Thursday. Easier than the first; only two incisions, compared to twelve the first time. Bandages come off Monday, but the support stockings will be a part of life into next month. I will be racing in the local turkey trot next Thursday, and no, I don't need the support stockings on for the event. I will have to put them on afterwards, but my last day to wear them on the right leg will be Thanksgiving Day. I'll still have another week of wearing one on the left leg.

4.748 mile Turkey day run tomorrow. The Manchester Road Race with 14,000 of my closets friends. At least my conscience will be clear when I eat that third piece of pumpkin pie.

Four-mile turkey trot yesterday. It went well. Time was pretty close to last year, which was all I could hope for, given the surgeries. Now, back to regular runs and prep for the quarter-marathon next month!

We haven't been running this week, everybody is sick here . Our younger daughter got it Monday, then wife on Tuesday, and myself and the older daughter Wednesday. Even Thanksgiving got postponed! We're all feeling a little better today though, so hopefully over it. Aw, everybody in Casa de Ratchets feel better soon!

OK, I am a crazy person. I am doing a 5K next Sunday, just for training. I had already volunteered to work our run club's booth at this event (which also has a 1/2 and full marathon). the races start a few minutes apart, so I will do the run, then go back to the booth and volunteer for a bit.

Think we're all just about over it now...felt well enough for turkey yesterday evening at any rate !
I'm sure the other runners will appreciate your help! And you'll also do well on your 5k...you're running really well it seems ! The real reason for the tent is to gain new members. So we lure them in with candy (well, the Sport Jelly Belly Beans), fruit, muffins, bagels, etc., setting up near the finish line. Sneaky bunch, we are. And while we are on the subject, a question for all of you: Our running club board of directors will be having a big meeting-of-the-minds get-together in January. A sit-down event with whiteboards, lots of notes, charts, graphs, and so on. The point of it is to get back to the basics of the club's original intentions, and also see what else and where else we should be doing our thing. Oh, and of course, bring in new members. I've got a few ideas, but I am looking for more. No idea is too strange. 1) I want our club to consider organizing races, or at least health walks, in underserved communities, which happen to also be mostly black and/or Latino, economically disadvantaged and populated by folks with the kinds of health problems (diabetes, heart disease, obesity) that could use some exercise. 2) I want our club to form partnerships with major landmarks and commerce centers, and either let us have a booth there every so often or maybe a race/walk event. We have a ginormous new outlet mall smack in the middle of our geographic base, and there is also a greenmarket there. It would be a good pairing. 3) I want our club to partner up with companies or groups that are working to help their employees get healthier, so we can be part of that equation. For example, the school board just started a diabetes incentive program, offering reduced-cost meds, doctor visits, free nutrition counseling, food prep classes, stop smoking aids...but no exercise program (!). Maybe we could fill the gap.

I have an 8.4 mile race on Sunday (my first race over 7 miles) and I have a FREE (whee!!) winter solstice trail 10k (with eggnog and fruitcake station!) on the 21st. Then I will finally relax for a couple of weeks (hopefully). I am going to hit my 2014 goal on Sunday (log 400 miles) and my 2015 goals are to run Broad Street (10 miles) and the Philly Half in November, so I need a healed tailbone already!

I feel pretty good; the area around the right knee still looks banged up, but it feels OK. I get a break in January, then up to Melbourne for an 8K race at the very end of the month.
