I keep reading that Sarah doesn't really seek the limelight. That she's simply hounded by the media and wants only her privacy. But then, I read " Palin recently filed paperwork with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark her name, as well as the name of her oldest daughter Bristol, who's become something of a celebrity brand in her own right. Palin's paperwork was filed in November, shortly before the premiere of her TLC show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska." Bristol Palin's application was filed in September, a few days before she began her own reality TV stint on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." The applications are still pending, amid several queries by the Patent office.
" news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110204/pl_yblog_theticket/sarah-palin-files-paperwork-to-trademark-her-nameand it's not hard to see why she's often referred to as an "opportunistic" and "media grabbing'... I'll refrain from copying the other terms.

Maybe one of our attorney posters can comment but trademarking her name provides rights and protections. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Where are you reading that??? She's a contributor to a national news show and does public appearances all over the country...doesn't sound like someone who "wants only her privacy".

Swamp, At the risk of highjacking my own thread.... This morning, my so and the ex were in court because of her violation of their parenting plan. The judge ordered her to pay 3/4 of his legal expenses. If she violates the parenting plan again, how big of a deal is it?
The tax issue still isn't resolved. His attorney told him to email her and tell her she needed to file an ammended return that did not claim either kid. If she refuses, then she would be (again) in violation of the PP - at least it seems that would be another case of contempt? Just wondering.

Actually, from one of your posts defending her from accusations of seeking publicity. ;D

I don't really know the whole backstory, but around here when one party is ordered to pay the other parties legal fees, they really effed up and ticked off the judge, so I'd say it's probably a pretty big deal.

Ahhh, that Sarah. Libs just can't get enough of her. In fact, they seem to be obsessed with her. Kinda freaky.

Got a criminal defense or real estate question for me instead? Ok...is unwanted sex with a high dollar hooker considered rape or grand theft? <ETA: NO, it's not a serious question> Oh...and the palin thing.....<yawn>. Of course she's opportunistic. She saw another chance to get the progressives foaming at the mouth again and (most likely) make a lot more money doing it. Smart gal for such an idiot if you ask me.

I don't think she has a chance in hell of even winning the nomination. But the liberals just worry, worry, worry, about every little thing she does, it's kind of humorous.

Think she wants to protect the use of her and her daughters name fom being used by others..possiblen in businesses.."Sara Palins Pizza shop" , things like that..she and her daughter have a brand , their names, just protecting the brand.

All the liberals say that, but go over to one of the lib sites like Salon, HuffPo, TPM, thinkprogress, etc. They are LOADED with Sarah Palin articles, links and stories. Likewise, MSNBC may as well change their name to The Palin Channel. It's like Sarah Palin-fest 24/7 in the lib media, they LOVE her because they can run story after story about Palin, knowing their audience will lap it up, without ever having to do any real reporting.

Ron Reagan: Sarah Palin 'A Soap Opera' LOS ANGELES — Sarah Palin is honoring one Reagan and offending another with the same speech. The former Alaska governor is scheduled to speak in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Friday at a tribute to former President Ronald Reagan – just one of the celebrations marking the centennial of the 40th president's birth on Feb. 6. But his son, Ron Reagan, tells The Associated Press he doesn't see anything in common between his dad and the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, who was invited to speak by the event's sponsor, the conservative Young America's Foundation. "Sarah Palin is a soap opera, basically. She's doing mostly what she does to make money and keep her name in the news," Reagan says. Just use the button and she's gone. Nonexistent to you. Until you decide that you want to think about her ....... yet again. Purty freaky, huh?

Liberal media outlets reference and show her much more than conservative ones. With viewership at most of these outlets plummeting, they're getting desperate. This gives a bit more light on purposes or benefits to trademarking ones name: www.legalzoom.com/intellectual-property-rights/trademarks/should-you-trademark-your-nameIf any type of sarahpalin.xyz type of site came up that was trying to profit off of her name or portray opinions that are not her own, it appears she could sue and gain control of those sites. It appears to be a regular occurrences for those with largely recognized names.

I think it makes perfect sense for the names to be trademarked. What if some porn star wants to take her name, or someone decides to make Sarah and Bristol dolls?? What is the problem here? Especially with the abuse each woman has had to put up with for the last few years.

None whatsover. I'm just very amused. Especially since the application was rejected because she failed to sign it.

Abuse? Being the Republican VP candidate was abuse?

Excessive hyperbole much? I don't have TV and rarely if ever read anything on Sarah Palin except the occasional thread here and the former MSN boards. People are too variable for ALL libs and ALL conservatives to agree on anything except the sky being blue. The media uses people for viewership it rarely has anything to do with whether they love, hate or are neutral about them. It used to take some talent to avoid Paris Hilton, Britney Spears in the news as well. The media loved reporting on them too, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would rather read, see, or hear something else.

Who could see Palin as anything other than a self aggrandizing twit. She quit her job as governor so she could go out and make a pile of cash.
Are there sentient beings who are fooled by her?

As opposed to the guy who spent his last 2 years as Senator on tour and then promotes his book while he should be tending to the American public while he's sitting President. Okay.

Last time I looked .. he didn't quit his public service job to have a shot at making more money via "appearances"
