I just got my holiday bonus this morning. Has anyone else gotten one yet? Do you have plans for it? I have decided to do the following which is probably not very YM:
30% savings 10% charity 60% spent on ME!
Woo Hoo Merry Christmas to ME!

I never got a holiday bonus -- congrats, and ENJOY!!
Just make sure that if taxes were not already taken out, you keep enough to pay Uncle Sam his portion!!

We had pretty good Christmas bonuses at my last job ($250 per year you worked there), but we don't get one here.

Congratulations No holiday bonus here either. Just the yearly bonus in October when we have our annual reviews.

I got a bonus after our fiscal year end. It was a contracted part of my compensation, and technically there would also be potential at calendar year end based on company results, but I don't know if that will be greater than zero this year. My bonus was pretty significant - net ended up being about the amount of a paycheck. We are going to spend a week skiing at New Year's - so I think the whole thing will be gonezo after that, probably more.

So what fun stuff are you doing for yourself with your bonus? I have some Christmas money and haven't figured out what would be fun. I just keep thinking of boring and practical stuff and could use some ideas.

You could get a stripper pole installed.

We are getting our year end bonus today. It is essentially going to savings, but in my head it is earmarked for the birth of my baby (due 12/31). Either medical bills or maternity leave. I don't have an exact amount although I've been told it is more than a 1 month's pay.

Congrats! A bonus is always nice! We don't get bonuses here. You are saving some of it, so I think it's only fair that you also use some for yourself! Any thoughts on what you might do with it?
ETA: I would suggest a massage!

We don't get company holiday bonuses, but over the summer we received one weeks pay as a special one-time never happening again type thing (based on our fiscal year-end sales.) It was taxed to death, so maybe some of it will come back on Apr 15th.
My boss normally gives everyone in the department a card with $100 in it. I'm going to put it toward the television I have to replace. I'm thinking about a 47" Smart Tv for ~ $650.

Got a holiday bonus - it's earmarked 100% towards 'investment property' - as I'm 'hoarding' cash at the moment. How are your coworkers dealing with the bonus? We don't really talk about it - but it seems to stress some people. I'm guesstimating because they really need the money - living paycheck to paycheck - and they feel it's not really 'enough'. I think maybe the non-stressed by the bonus people (who seem a bit happy to have gotten the bonus) aren't so pressed for money so they have 'positive' plans for the money that makes them happy (which might be paying down debt)... ADDED: ok, maybe it's more just an 'attitude' kinda thing: If one's bonus is going 100% to debt reduction: Happy - if the goal is to pay down the debt - they don't feel bad that they can't spend it on themselves right now (they are essentially delaying gratification for future). UnHappy - if they feel the bonus is somehow being 'taken away' because they have to use it to pay down debt - and not spend it on something fun right now.

We typically get bonuses although they're not guaranteed. Last year was about $1800, I think; would expect it to be similar or maybe a little better this year--it's been a good year and I personally have gotten a LOT done. It's earmarked to just go into my checking/savings to make up for some of the, er, exuberance on buying gifts this year Then again I have a larger goal of a new diamond ring, so that's possibly even worse. I think I'll stop digging myself a deeper hole now.

We don't get a "holiday bonus" working for county government, but we do get a "longevity bonus" that is paid the first pay in November, based on years of service. Mine is $800, but barely $500 after taxes , I wish they'd just cut us a check instead of putting it in with our pay. I used it to pay some bills, and for my trip to FL next week to visit mom.

Tomorrow night is our Christmas party. We employees usually do get a bonus. The past 2 years, I have received $1,750. Don't know if that tradition will continue this year or not. I hope so, I do think it is a nice tradition.

Tiny Speck - bonuses around here are hush hush. They are based on merit so not everyone even gets one and we definitely don't all get the same thing.

I'm a public employee. We don't get bonuses. I should have known to stay out of the public sector. When I worked in banking, we got $2,000 a year. Which for me, at the time, was about 10% of my pay. To a 19 year old, an extra $2,000 seemed like a small fortune.

When we were smaller my boss would profit share with all of us employees. The biggest Christmas bonus I ever received was $10K. However, when she went to apply for a small business loan after we had a former employee steal some clients she was turned down because when they asked her about previous years profits she said "I gave it all away to my employees". So we have not gotten bonuses in YEARS. She tells us she will share the wealth again when we are more profitable, but not to the extent that she used to. I never counted on the bonuses (because they are exactly that...a BONUS) so not getting it didn't affect my bottom line. I will say people sure got some nice Christmas presents that one year! ;D

I work for a non-profit, and our "bonus" is a $100 grocery gift card from our Board of Directors. We all love them - it really helps with all the extra expenses of holiday meals. Some folks go out and stock up on groceries and baby items/diapers; some folks get a turkey and stock their freezer. The single folks spend it on beer. The years that we visit family I send it ahead to the host/hostess because I know there are plenty of added expenses to house and feed us for a few days, especially over a holiday.

If I get a bonus, then the first $900 is for gifts & the rest to savings. If I don't get a bonus or it is under $900 (after-tax), then everyone is getting smaller gifts.

I'm hopeful I'll get a bonus this year. I do our bookkeeping so I know exactly how profitable we were this year. It's going to be pretty difficult for the Boss to say he can't afford it. ;D Seriously 2012 was the best year we have had in both companies ever. DH's employer does bonuses too and they have also had a hugely profitable year (up 47% from last year and last year was their best year to date).
Hopefully we'll find out if what we are getting soon.

That is awesome, your company must have had a very good year. You're a civil eng. right? What kind of work does your company do?
