I ran across this blog and I thought it sounded pretty good. I am not a fan of most crockpot recipes because of the cream of soup in them. So here is a blog with some recipes that do not contain the cream of soups. blogs.babble.com/the-new-home-ec/2011/09/18/12-fall-crockpot-recipes-condensed-soup-free/Please add your recipes that don't contain the cream of soups as well. (Cream of soups have too much sodium and many have MSG that I can't have. That is why I am looking for recipes without it.)

I'm with you, thyme. Karma to anyone who can come up with a recipe that doesn't taste like...nothing. Only thing I can make in a cp that I like is pulled pork and that's only after I have it in the oven first.

I also make shredded beef or pork for tacos. But other than that - mush.

Have you tried a new crock pot? Mine cooks too fast even on the low setting so I have to change the times on it. But I was given a pork with craisens recipe and it is so good if you want it. It's one of our favorites. But I hate cleaning the thing so I don't use mine very often until it's really cold out. It's spring time gorgeous here right now but I'm making the pork one as soon as the temps dip again.

Best use we've found for our crockpot is to make gluhwein or glogg to sip on all day when it snows . . . yum.

I use my crockpot a lot and rarely if ever get a decent meal. See that is me too. I haven't even used mine in over a year...but I was thinking of attempting it again. Of course I probably should just give up for good.

I make a pot roast-- I do like it better in the oven, but this one has always turned out well for me. I definitely brown the meat first--it gives it better flavor and helps keep it from turning to mush (at least, in my experience--I just can't be home all day to watch a "real" roast). I use a chuck roast or one labeled "pot roast" from the cow I get from my brother. I use this recipe www.ifood.tv/recipe/america_039_s_favorite_pot_roast (at least it looks like the one that came with my crockpot) 3 1/2 to 4 lb. beef arm or boneless pot roast 1/4 cup flour 2 teaspoons salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 3 carrots, pared, sliced lengthwise and cut into 2 inch pieces 3 potatoes, peeled and quartered 2 small onions, sliced 1 stalk celery, cut into 2 inch pieces 1 jar (2 oz.) mushrooms, drained, or 1/4 cup mushroom gravy 3 tablespoons flour 1/4 cup water Directions:Trim all excess fat from roast; brown and drain if using chuck or another highly marbled cut. Combine 1/4 cup flour, the salt and pepper. Coat meat with the flour mixture. Place all vegetables except mushrooms in crock pot and top with roast (cut roast in half, if necessary, to fit easily). Spread mushrooms evenly over top of roast. Cover and cook on low setting for 10 to 12 hours. If desired, turn to high setting during last hour to soften vegetables and make a gravy. To thicken gravy, make a smooth paste of the 3 tablespoons flour and the water and stir into crock pot. Sometimes I add a little garlic powder on top. There are usually enough leftovers (since it's just the two of us) that I can use them to make stew.

I wonder if that's Cheesy's recipe. I made it for Christmas Eve and my family ate every bite. My uncle declared it "a home run." Even my dad, who might be the pickiest man on the planet, liked it.

I had posted this recipe a few weeks ago on the Moms board. It is a really good and super easy to make crock pot soup. Actually, it's really thick and hearty, so it's more like a stew.
KGB's Chicken Tortilla Soup:
2 whole chicken breasts 2 cans black beans, rinsed & drained 1 small can diced green chilies 1 medium red and green bell pepper, rough chopped 1 medium onion, rough chopped 1 small bag of frozen corn 2 packets fajita seasoning 1 tsp. ancho chili powder 1 large box of chicken broth Salt and pepper to taste
Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper and put them in the crock pot. everything else on top. Cover with chicken broth and cook for 6 to 7 hours on low. At the end, pull out the chicken, shred it with a fork and return to soup.
Serve with tortilla chips, shredded cheese and sour cream.

I was in the middle of posting this just as the upgrade started. lol.... oh well, it's easy enough to re-type. I do a black bean pulled chicken in the crock pot, it's a ridiculously versatile recipe. most of the time I make tacos with lettuce and cheese, I've gotten rave reviews for enchiladas filled with this as well. my sis makes nachos for parties too. I made a dip out of this for NYE this year (tweaks at the bottom of the post) black bean pulled chicken 1.5-2 lbs frozen chicken breasts (enough to cover the bottom of your crock pot) 2 cans black beans, undrained/unrinsed 1 16oz jar salsa of your choosing 1 can diced tomatoes, drained lay the frozen chicken breasts out over the bottom of your crock pot, single layer. if you can fit 2lbs, cool, it'll be fine. pour the black beans, tomatoes, and salsa over the top. stir to mix the wet ingredients. cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. the chicken will pretty much fall apart when it's done. shred the chicken, stir, and serve as you like. enjoy *to make this a really tasty dip, don't drain the tomatoes. follow the rest of the recipe as-is. after you shred the chicken, stir 1c cheese (finely shredded if possible, it melts better!) into the crock and let it melt into the mix. just dip your chips right into the pot.

I made a recipe someone gave me for crockpot beef stroganoff. It was really easy and really good.
1 pound of stew meat, cubed 1 package of sliced mushrooms 1 can of cream of mushroom soup 1/2 onion, chopped 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce Salt and pepper to taste 1/4 cup of water 4 ounces of cream cheese Egg noodles
Put everything but the cream cheese and noodles in the crock pot. Cook on low for 8 hours. When you've got about 30 minutes left, put the cream cheese in the crock pot and give it a stir. I cubed it so it would dissolve more quickly and distributed more evenly.
Serve over egg noodles.

Yes, it's Cheesy's recipe that she gave me. I would have given her full credit had anybody asked for it but now it's gone when my computer went to computer heaven. I need you all to email me so I have your email addresses again. I'll PM you guys.

www.thelittlekitchen.net/2011/02/03/whole-chicken-in-a-slow-cooker/a regular recipe in our house. I leave out the veggies though, and just make my own sides. We also make this with a turkey breast since my DH LOVES turkey. I make pork roast and pulled pork regularly- always season and sear the meat first. when we have tacos or quesadillas- i throw in the chicken breasts with seasoning and black beans and corn etc. to have them cooked and ready by the time I get home. I have a programmable slow cooker that I can set to cook a certain amount of time and it just changes over to warm after that. If the food just cooks all day- It would probably be mush.

I make whole chicken in my crock pot. I stuff it with lemon, garlic and rosemary. I put lemon juice, salt and pepper on the outside of the chicken and add a little chicken stock in the bottom. I cook it on low for 8 hours. Simple and tasty.
I also make sauerkraut, pork chops and apples in the crock pot.

kgb18 I made your stroganoff recipe today and DH said "Where is my plate? I'm still waiting on it." He practically licked it clean and wanted another one it was so good. I added garlic and onion powder and put more wine than water. Very tasty! I've also made both your chicken and the other one here with the lemon and both were great! I hope you all have more recipes to share. Especially the easy ones.

BBQ Beef in Crock Pot
1 london broil 1 bottle hickory flavored bbq sauce
I cut the raw broil into maybe 6 pieces. Pour bbq sauce over it. Fill the sauce bottle with water, add to pot and mix a little. Cook on low all day. Delicious as sandwiches, or served over egg noodles.

You can cook meat in foil in your crock. I think people add too much liquid and get mushy food. Let it cook in its own juices.
