Scraped the car up on a column in the entrance to a Philly hotel. That one was really stupid because I wouldn't have been back around to the entrance except the valet wrongly told me you had to physically check out. Oh i remember that, it was either right before or after you came up to visit me i think. I've had my share of dinging the car into things, worst was when i was 16 and trying to get my car out from in between the garage, my dads truck and the basketball poll next to it...um the basketball poll won.

What are some stupid things you've done that have cost you money? Share your stories and make me feel better
I've had my Cuisinart close to 20 years. A few weeks ago, the tab that locked the tube into place broke. I called Cuisinart and ordered a new part ($25 with shipping). When it came, it was the wrong part (Pretty sure it was my goof). So called them back ordered the right part (now $40 with shipping) and shipped the wrong part back ($10 for shipping).
The whole thing was frustrating and $40 for a plastic part seems really expensive, but I can't make myself go out and buy another Cuisinart.
More expensive was dropping my iphone last month and shattering the glass cover. $135 to replace it. And it was simple carelessness that made me drop it.

Yeah it was right after that. I would also say the evil apartment that made me sick.

The little plastic 'cup' that covers the light bulb on my stove vent/hood had partially disintegrated. I looked for a replacement 'cup' and the stove vent/hood manufacturer wanted $43 for it. $43! A replacement vent/hood motor cost less. I might was well buy a new hood.

about 15 years ago my DH parked his truck and ran into the workplace to grab a free turkey that all employees at the place received for Thanksgiving. He didn't set the parking brake on the truck and the truck rolled backwards down a pretty significant hill taking out several lamposts along the way. Thankfully he didn't take out any employees as it was shift change and there were lots of people in the parking lot that the truck ended up in. How it ended up not hitting another car is beyond me.

I forgot that little puppies grow bigger. And are able to climb stairs. And chew up the hot tub cover. About $500 to replace.

It didn't occur to me to have the old plastic water line to my refrigerator ice maker replaced with a stouter metal mesh water line when I got a new refrigerator, nor did it occur to me to do so later when I got a new laminate floor in the kitchen. The plastic water line failed between the vinyl underlayment and the laminate flooring, spreading the water under the tiles. The leak didn't make itself known for probably several weeks, when about half of the tiles had become waterlogged and the floor was ruined. I had been hospitalized for several weeks some time before this happened and had difficulty ambulating for some time after that, so I hadn't been down in the basement for quite a while. So I didn't know that the water had also leaked into the cedar closet in the basement and ruined that and part of the contents. Total cost for rebuilding the cedar closet and replacing the kitchen floor: $8000. I have a $5000 deductible on my homeowner's insurance, besides which it was (and is) my understanding that water-related claims can be very problematic, so I just ate the entire cost. The contractor tore out everything that got wet and applied mold retardant in a wide margin around the affected area, so apparently there were no ill effects, other than to my bank account.

Apparently I've angered the computer gods... This morning I got an email from our party-planning committee. It included a link to one of those "Elf Yourself" videos. I didn't realize that my volume was up and the music scared the crap out of me. I jerked my arm and knocked my laptop off the docking port. Couldn't get it reconnected, so called the IT people and found out I'd snapped off a teeny plastic thing that holds the computer to the docking station. They are ordering a new piece. At least I don't have to pay for this one, I guess! Still annoying. I hate not having dual monitors! :*( No, I'll have to pay for it through my state taxes!

Don't worry Regis, I think it's under warranty. (Which I suppose was factored into the cost of the original computer, so a wash. BUT, at least I'm getting the taxpayers' money's worth out of the warranty, right?)

Oh...well I feel better now.
But let's talk about the party planning committee sending out emails during work hours and the "elf yourself" videos you're watching. ;D

Oh boy, thank God for my failing memory. It's glossed over some of my worst financial mistakes. I guess loaning that poor tech the $1000 was our worst most recent mistake. I guess she forgot about us. D.D. did pay us back every penny she owed us, but not the former tech bitch. What a con artist, but we were stupid to trust her. Never, ever again.

Well I just threw away $39.99 this afternoon while shopping online at the same time that I talked to my sister on the phone. I should have stopped clicking links when I started talking.
