I am finding it harder to find coupons for the things we use ... and it seems like the $$ value of coupons has been decreasing, some. No place around here doubles coupons, either.

THEO: Getting old is a bitch. People get use to their surroundings and have a comfort zone. It's more because they can maneuver the surrounds and that gives them confidence. This could be where your dad is now. However maybe you should talk to dad and let him know how hard things are on mom. I don't know him or if this fits into your family dynamics. It's only a suggestion. Maybe he can exchange staying for doing the dishes or whatever mom needs help with. All old folks know there will most likely come a time when they loose the right to make their own decisions. This is tough on them. It could be tomorrow. They think about it all of the time. . Granddaughter called tonight. They are now ready to move here. Still want to sell the house first. DS and son are going tomorrow to clean out basement & help them get house listed. Two nephews and I went to visit again today. They actually have three openings: a 2 bed 2 bath, 2 bed 1 bath and 1 bed 1 bath. They are 95% certain they have somebody who is going to take the 2 bed 2 bath, but they have a house to sell. Parents don't want that one. The 2 bed 1 bath is incredible. The original owner had the wall between the two bathrooms removed. It's huge. I've never seen a bathroom that big. One nephew said that one is actually a 4 bedroom--2 bedrooms, the bathroom and the walk in closet. The three of us thought the 1 bed 1 bath was rather small, but it's the same size has the house I grew up in and that house had 3 bedrooms. House I grew up in was 912 sq ft and this is 924 sq ft. Feels bigger than the house did because it's open between living room and kitchen. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I think dad also knows the time is nearing when he can no longer drive and they have no idea of what they would do 3 hours away from us with no one to help them do little things like get groceries. Here, the facility has a van that goes on errands on Tuesdays and Thursdays and they have two daughters and grandchildren to help.

DD is going to be getting her new (apartment ) probably tomorrow. Not sure how much we will be able to get her moved before the weekend. The other people moved out this morning and he had the carpets cleaned this afternoon. He wanted 24 hours to let the carpets dry and then she could have it. Apparently he is not painting but like I said it is a . It actually brings back fond memories of my first apartment which was also a .

My weekly meal plan, written (in pencil) Sunday morning is already in ruins. Did not feel like my planned dinner on Sun and made a pot of mac & cheese. Made dinner plans w/a friend for Wed. That will most likely lead to another plan change to deal w/leftovers.

I made a pot of sauce and meatballs over the weekend and gave some to DD1. I made chili with some of it yesterday for me. It turned out well and will eat that for 3 meals. I froze the rest in 3 glass jars for additional meals. (when I need a sauce 'fix'.) Yesterday was a pretty active day for me, so today I'll just hang around the house and piddle. Sunday was a highlight day because the first episode of Downton Abbey was a 2 hour special. I've been waiting months for that to come on PBS. I guess originally they had planned just 2 seasons, but it was such a hit they created a third one. THEO: I'm glad that things are working out with your parents. Good luck. MOLLY: Good morning. I know what you mean about coupons. I do have one store here that doubles, so I'm a bit better off. But values have declined, and since I won't play games with manufacturers, my use has declined. I just won't buy your item. I do find online coupons have a higher value. Special K had an online coupon for .70 off one. In the paper the coupon was 1.00 off 3. Not 2, but 3. I'll eat Cheerios that I got for .65 and bypass K with a low value coupon like that. I save the coupon in case a store has a sale for 3/5.00 then I'll double that on Wednesday. It's a game that I intend to win. I'll call it a challenge. DD3 is going back to work 2 days a week. She will work when her DH is off so no one needs to watch the kids. I'm happy for her that she could come up with this arrangement. I'm even happier that she stuck to her standards and went without while she found what would work for her and her family. MARV: I want you to know I admire your planning meals. I never could do that on paper. I should have, but I guess it's a glitch. ;D Enjoy the day and stay safe.

I went online today to do two things: download my wonderful DH's W-2 (accomplished) and print out his paystub (called an LES ... leave and earning statement) for his January 15 paycheck. (also accomplished.) Only his January 15 paycheck was about 1/2 of normal because they've only payed him from Jan 1-Jan 8, v. Jan 1-Jan 15. (sigh) My wonderful DH's called ... seems there was a problem with orders and getting paperwork submitted on time (not on our end, of course) ... so he wants to know when we might expect the second half of his check. They also included $$ in the check for Hazardous Duty pay, which should've ended in December when he came home from Afghanistan. Ahhh, yes..... things are running smoothly here for military pay in 2013. ::: rolls eyes :::
We have some sunshine here today ~ yay! I was out front filling feeders, sweeping sidewalks and filling up the bird bath and enjoying it. Forecast for 63 tomorrow, too! Then we've got cold and rain coming.
The new light fixture for the laundry room arrived, so this afternoon's project is helping (ok, watching) my wonderful DH install it. No sign of the new sink yet for in there ... maybe this week?

No snow anywhere around here. In the fifties and up into the sixties this weekend. No snowdays in our foreseeable future. At least I'm getting a bit of a break on my electric DS and I went out to dinner with the folks tonight to celebrate Christmas. It was nice. I had to get a salad because they don't have GF items. So now I'm starving. Theo I'm so glad your folks have come around. Lucky for them that they have such a loving family willing to help them out. Good luck!

Thanks for the good wishes.
I went and got the floor plans. DS and 2 sons went down. Visited with realtor who will be listing house tomorrow. Only one room needed decluttered and what he said to remove was brought to DS's house. He was told she would be taking everything from the basement. When I talked to her, she said all they need to do to show the house was vacuum the basement. Mom doesn't know if she can do that so DS told her to call her house cleaner.
Mom gave the go ahead to take check over so they are officially on the waiting list and at the top. They have the first right of refusal.
Dad still says they have to sell the house before they can move. Realtor said it wouldn't matter if there furniture was there or not. They seem to think they want the 1 bed 1 bath and nobody is interested in it, so they may get lucky.
House isn't worth as much as they were hoping. They were going by what house next door sold for--at the peak and realtor said for too much because the wife wanted it and it was being financed by family, not a bank. It's actually owned by a corporation.
They haven't told anyone in their family except one cousin.
I know both my DS and I are relived and 3 of the 4 grandchildren are. I don't know if the one in Ukraine at the moment even knows about this.
I think we will all sleep better tonight.

In spite of being a ‘card carrying’ member of the Grocery Challenge my attitude on coupons is much like yours. I stopped buying Prego & Ragu because the sale price is WAAAY up and the coupon value WAAAY down PLUS the containers are smaller.
I may plan my meals but NEED to do it in pencil cause I alter it SOOO much.
Molly Sounds like you may have more snow this year than we do in metro Chicago. We are in line for rain over the next 3-5 days.

My first place was also a room in a house with several housemates. It came with a pink oven and a dining room wall made of brick. It also had a kitchen window that got almost no light because the house next door was so close you could just about reach out and touch it.
The house was ok, but one roommate was a thief.

THEO: I'm happy that things are working out for your parents. They are fortunate to have daughters that care about their well being.
Morrobaymom and I have been working on a project for about 1.5 years. It's finally coming to fruition. Our original thought was a book, but we reviewed that idea and decided we couldn't (didn't want to) put in the efforts to get it to market. We are starting a blog. Her DH is a computer guru, so he will set up the site for us. We have about 6 months worth of articles and pictures to get us started. The blog is geared toward young couples who just don't have a clue how to get out of debt and have a peaceful lifestyle. All ss ladies (and gents) are way too savvy for the information. But we will have a section with the 'best' deals. Not everything, just the best. We don't want young people to get caught up in thinking their spending is necessary because something is a 'good' deal. So the deals outlined will be for needed items such as food and clothing.
It should be up in the next couple of weeks, so I'll leave the site address on here for anyone who's interested in checking it out.
Stay safe and enjoy your day.

THEO: I'm happy that things are working out for your parents. They are fortunate to have daughters that care about their well being. No calls today, so I'm hoping all is well. We do love them, as do their grandchildren. Those nephews of mine gave up a day of their break to move stuff with DS and they both went with me to see where Grandma and Grandpa will be living. Since my parents come from large families and we've attended so many funerals, my sister and I have pondered who can give a eulogy at their funerals. We both know we couldn't do it and she doesn't think any of her kids could. Lucy could even visit them there, but they don't care for cats. My sister's dog is a maltipoo and she will get to visit. My niece's dogs are too big and active to visit there. Four laps of the hallway are a mile. I plan on visiting dad several times a week until we work up to that mile. We are supposed to get rain tomorrow and Friday. Temperature has been warm enough yesterday and today to melt snow. My morning paper yesterday was wet because of it so they had to send a replacement.

My first room was just that--a room with the shower, toilet and sink in the laundry room. It was in the basement of a friend of a friend's house. I had my own entrance so I didn't have to go through their house to get to my room. It was cold down there. They knew it and provided a space heater.
I took my bike and either rode my bike to campus or walked. It was such a beautiful walk. I never drove to campus and never bought a parking sticker. I walked through a beautiful park to get to campus. If I didn't have back to back classes, I went to the library for the hour and studied. Being an accounting major, I didn't have a lot of papers to write.
At the time I attended my small liberal arts college, they were testing a new academic model. They didn't keep it long. There were no all school requirements. The only requirements were in your major. Almost all of my classes were in the business department. I'd do anything not to have class on Friday so I could work. I managed to do that each semester.
I was in a hurry to graduate. I had gone to night school at a junior college four nights a week for two or three years, so I had some college credit. I did 3 years of college in 2 years by carrying an extra load. I had no fun in college because of this and my insistence on getting straight A's. I did accomplish straight A's.

Talk about blowing my diet resolution. Went to a nearby Polish buffet w/a friend for dinner last night. Can you say pierogi (4 different fillings), cheese blintz, potato pancakes, polish sausage, sauerkraut, carving station w/ham & turkey plus much, much more that I skipped. I ignored to salad bar and the marinated veggies. Did eat a bit of fruit. Only had 1 small piece from the desert bar. Skipped the ice cream. NOTE: this meal comes w/a small bowl of soup too. All this for $12.99 pp.
I think I will skip getting on the scale this week. Also, I think I will make roasted veggies this week instead of the breakfast muffins I had planned on making. Next meal plan will lean to veggie & fish meals.

MARV: That's why I don't make resolutions. I'm a weak kind of girl! ;D
A friend and I went to the Navy NEX in Virginia Beach. It's much closer and easier to reach than the one in Norfolk. I found John Stamos yogurt for .91 and Campbell's chicken noodle for .60. I got Christmas wrap for my DDs at .20 a roll. So I was a happy camper.
Have to pick up GS1 after school. I'll bring him here and make dinner for DD1 family. Then their off to Ti Kwon Do.
The weather is beautiful, 53 degrees and sunny. The sun makes me be in a good mood.
Stay safe and enjoy the day.

I downloaded a free Amish cookbook from Kindle and was surprised to see a number of recipes that DH used to make for us. I made the corn fritters for lunch and put a bit of my peach jam on them. It turns out it's a good combination.

No snow here, and the possibility of snow has passed. Oh well.
We're getting our kitchen ceiling textured and painted (we had a light fixture change, so now we have to cover the spot). We're also going to get the laundry room closet painted at the same time, by the same painters I used this past fall. January 22 it starts.

Yay! Looks like the missing 2nd half of my wonderful DH's Jan 15 mid-month pay will pay a few days later, on Jan 18 ~ now that the orders situation has worked out. Of course, they're still (incorrectly) paying $50 a pay period hardship duty pay, which they will eventually figure out and will then unceremoniously take back with no warning ... sheesh.

I have my usual bunch of errands to do today plus I need to go w/my Dad to get his new ADA Para transit card. Probably will not get home until 3-4 pm instead of my usual 12:30-1. Going to need to grab lunch out. Will use one of the gift certs kids gave me for Christmas. Being out today is NOT going to be fun as it is raining and supposed to keep on until about mid-day. However, it is going to be at least near record breaking warm here, again.
This weather is scary. Can't decide whether to be afraid of climate warming or figure we will get hit w/a couple 10 inch/more snow storms and zero to 20 below temps.

This weather is scary.
Right now we have fog and mist temps are hovering around 33, but we are in store for a temp drop and this mist will change to snow, our high temp forecast for Sunday is below 0

I don't know where you are kimber, but I can barely see the houses behind me due to the fog. The fog was supposed to burn off by noon, but it has not burned off. It is 40 degrees and snow is melting. My drive is clear of where I drove over it and it had ice and deck is almost melted off. Going to shovel the rest off this afternoon.
I worked at the church yesterday with the Treasurer. We got a lot accomplished on the financials and printed the contribution letters. It was late so I brought those home to mail today. Got that finished this morning and they are in the mail. Next week I will do the W-2 and 1099's.

We had a very dangerous bout of ice and freezing fog this morning. This week I have been having to go into work at 5am but this morning didn't mind too much because I had the road pretty much to myself. Took the first load of stuff down to DD's apartment tonight. We will do the majority of the moving tomorrow. Then she can stop commuting which will be a relief to me. I was not happy that she had to drive down to school in the ice this morning.
