Kids need to learn to respect authority!
What a cool career day, we never got to see kids tazed when I was in school.

Kids need to learn to respect authority! What a cool career day, we never got to see kids tazed when I was in school. I know, right? All we ever got to see were kids getting wedgies and thrown in mud. Our school sucked! Seriously, that is horrible! The cops in Central Florida are in the news more than the crooks and murderers. Well, they ARE the crooks and murderers so that would be a step up when they taze kids. <---- Just Kidding!!!! I wish we could get some new ones from elsewhere. And they would be cuter! Grrr!! After my 3rd mouse I'm starting to think it's my key board that keeps screwing up! ;D

So it IS the mouse? Very disturbing. I hope this is not true: "Defendant Webb asked the boy, R.D., in a group of boys, who would like to clean his patrol unit," the complaint states. "A number of boys said that they would. R.D., joking, said that he did not want to clean the patrol unit. "Defendant Webb responded by pointing his Taser at R.D. and saying, 'Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police.'" Webb then shot "two barbs into R.D.'s chest," the complaint states. "Both barbs penetrated the boy's shirt, causing the device to deliver 50,000 volts into the boy's body."

A guardian is suing New Mexico after a state police officer allegedly Tased a 10-year-old boy for refusing to help clean his patrol car during a career day event at a school. Well, if nothing else, the officer has probably scared a bunch of children away from becoming police officers. Oh, who am I kidding? The other kids probably thought it was cool.
I would take a bat to that Pigs knees, and then piss on him, and invite all the kids to do the same...and have a good laugh. Some people can't handle authority.

ya think?
Hmmmm - the wound from a taser looks suspiciously like a cigerette burn, huh?

The article I read didn't really delve into what evidence there was (or wasn't) that it happened. Did one of them say that the investigation shows that no one witnessed it?

What I read (I kept getting a "cross-site scripting" message and my computer screws up when I try to read it) it's based on the kids testimony but it mentions he was taken to the principal's office. They don't mention if the principal was there or not.

Ah - could be. It really just doesn't sound right at all. But, I hate to gang up on someone without really knowing the story.
Plus - no one has "testified" yet. They are just taking quotes from the court documents.

I have a hard time believing this is a factual claim. In this state, Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) must be tased themselves before they can carry tasers. Ex-H says they freaking hurt. What sort of asshat would casually tase a 10 year old at career day? It seems unlikely such an asshat would pass the psychological exams required to be a LEO.
It should be easy enough to verify the story, though. There should have been school personnel also attending the presentation. What do they have to say?

I sort of believe the story. A Career Day probably has kids milling around, sort of under the supervision of teachers but the teachers aren't directly watching each kid every single minute of the activity.
What did the officer take the kid to the principal's office for if he wasn't hurt? And how did he get hurt if the policeman didn't do it? Usually, there is a school nurse or at least a health room staffed by volunteers to get involved. The sequence of events doesn't make sense to a teacher.
Police officers are very into authority. It is possible that this particular office saw disrespect toward his authority.
Like I said, the story doesn't make sense trying to make excuses for the officer either.

Anyone else remember "Paul Harvey ... and the REST if the story ..." ?
Can't help wondering what the rest of the story is to this.

Given that we have had proof of asshole cops tazing people (including little old ladies), beating people when they were already on the ground, and pepper spraying peaceful college student protests, I am willing to have a wait and see additude towards this and not assume that no cop would be an asshat.

It isn't easy to accidentally discharge a tazer.

If you are thinking that there is no possiblity that a police officer is an asshat, you are mistaken. While they are not the majority, controlling power-mongers gravitate to those jobs. We have had more than a couple officers kill or attempt to kill wives they aren't happy with.

Okay - so after reading that smoking gun article, the kid has a pretty good shot at getting a settlement. The officer really F***ked the pooch on that one!
I also looked up the term "Guardian ad litem" and now understand who that person is. So, regular kid, with a mom - not a foster kid.

I'm surprised that she has the standing to sue. I'm a GAL and I wouldn't have that standing.

Cops are often not the brightest bulbs in the group. They also usually have power trips and like to show of. I am not surprised.

I think she was brought in specifically to represent the best interests of the child during this lawsuit. It makes sense, because they did not list the child's name, only the GAL. If they listed his name, or his mother's name, it would be pretty easy to find him. There are safety issues involved when suing a city government entity.

Particularly when that "city government entity" is the police who have already tasered your kid for no real reason.

Actually, it kind of is. And I'll take the 5th on the rest of that ... Other than that, I'm going to stay out of this thread. A story about a bad cop has led to a bunch of posts calling cops pigs, stupid, power mongers, etc. It's nice that the majority of them who aren't those things are all lumped together.

Hmmm the pig reference was to one specific cop, the power monger reference specifically said they were not the majority, and hte stupid reference used "often" as the qualifier. So not really seeing where your claims that all of the "majority" are being lumped in together is actually valid. Though it's interesting to see someone mischaracterize other people's statements in an effort to show that a group is being mischaracterized.
