I'm worried about the hurricane/storm, and I don't even live in the area. Best wishes and good luck to everyone on the east coast, and please be safe.

My office decided to close the building tomorrow. I don't have to drive into Philly during a hurricane!

I posted that map on FB and one of my sons asked if I noticed that it was dated 2010. Those meteoroligists are pretty good if they predicted this hurricane two years ago! ;D Good news - I'm in the "liquor store" area. Bad news - I'm in Indiana. The last state in the nation where you can't buy alcohol on Sunday.

We got a taste of Sandy down here last Thursday and Friday, and it was not fun. Although the storm was well off the FL coast, we got plenty of wind and rain, and even this morning, most beaches were closed due to washout, we did have some coastal road flooding, but no deaths or serious damage. I was in VA Beach a few years ago during an exceptionally rainy period that had nothing to do with a tropical system. Whole danged city was underwater. I cannot imagine how bad it will be there this time. I spoke to family in the Baltimore area. Looks like they will take a hit, but the worst of the coastal flooding won't impact the Chesapeake area as much as first thought. Stay safe, everyone.

I'm in Virginia Beach and we've got flooding all over, especially near the oceanfront and other low lying areas. Norfolk has lots of flooded areas to. I have water almost up to our patio threashhold but it's almost high tide. It should go down later tonight.
Good luck everyone who's in the areas being hit by the storm. Stay in and stay safe!

That's the area I was in, Anne. I felt like I needed water wings the whole time I was there. I cannot imagine how much worse it will be this time.

Thanks Nancy - We haven't lost power yet so that's a plus. I've lost tree limbs in the past and hope we don't have any trees come down. We have two huge pine trees in our back yard, but are hoping for the best. At least they lean away from the house!

I left gulf coast yesterday. Other than cooler temps and some wind gusts, it was fine. A bit overcast.

I heard they evacuated Ocean City and I imagine they will shut down the Bay Bridge soon.
Federal buildings in DC and Baltimore are shut down today. Marc trains and the commuter buses are shut down.

Was fine last night. Today iffier in NJ. Looks like we are up to 30mph winds with more to go in the afternoon. Work was stressfull last night as there was prep for the storm. So patient moves, paperwork, etc.
Not sure how long/when I'll have internet/phone. Hoping to keep power and water even though flooding is supposed to be worse than Irene. Good luck all.

Loony, shouldn't you be making a mint selling "emergency" rations like corn nog and creamed eels?

Can you combine corn nog and creamed eels with melon and Amish chicken and make a casserole out of it? Well, you could, but then, could you eat it?

Talked to my sister last night, she lives in Connecticut, about two miles away from the beach and close to a river. She said they already had three weeks off frequent rain so the rivers and ground are already saturated, this additional rain won't have a place to go. She's in a mandatory evacuation area but is staying at her home anyway. I think it's stupid, she has lots of big trees and her lot is not at all elevated, but she doesn't want to have to sleep on a cot in a school gym.
If you see a picture of a woman with a bunch of cats being ferried out of a flooded part of the coastline tomorrow, that is probably my sister.....
I could say something smug about living in the South, where we are warm and sunny, but my house got taken out by a tornado last year, so I'm not a good one to be boasting about nice weather. If nature wants to screw with you, she'll find a way.

They may not have people willing to risk their lives to save her and her pets. They have a reason to have mandatory evacuation so may not even look for anyone in those areas.

If it's anything like it is in my area where hurricanes are common, they won't send any personnel out until conditions are safe to do so. Period. The end. (which is quite possible if you didn't evacuate and should have)

Yup! I'll just sit here with no healthcare facilities, and farm my potatoes and not worry about a thing.

Yup! I'll just sit here with no healthcare facilities, and farm my potatoes and not worry about a thing. Oh, I don't know, we flyover rubes have got dry (as in unflooded ) ground (although we are getting lots of wind and some rain courtesy Sandy ), a roof that isn't going to float away, streets that we can pass through without a rowboat, six months of food in the basement, heat and power, gas in the cars, and our atm cards are still working.....plus I can think of five hospitals that are within 5 - 15 miles from us. I think we're doing just fine. Plus, we don't seem to get earthquakes or volcanos, either. People on both coats might eventually become jealous of our good fortune and our potatos....
