Hi all
FinanciallyfreeinBC 01/02/11 $4,459.76 (01/02/11 $4,459.76 WIRS1)
Having just finished my race in the debt boards, I am looking forward to being over here! I will be lurking for a while until DH gets his severance (he loses his job in 2 weeks) and gets a new job since we will actually be losing money until he does. I have some money in savings but all of the Christmas bills have yet to settle so this will go down for sure.

Hi Writer88, thanks for posting that table, I've been playing with it a bit. Is it supposed to do the calculations or is it just for posting on the board in table form? Thanks again

Trix - The "% Met" column is set up already. The correct % will pop up when your "YTD" and "2001 goals" columns are filled in. I just realized the chart doesn't have a "totals" row .. please G-d I'll add it later this week, when I can spare the time.

FinanciallyFreeinBC - Congrats on winning your debt race! I'm glad to see that you're wanting to start tracking your savings when your DH is back to work. If you're relatively new to WIRS, you may want to visit the old site on the MSN Money boards to become familiar with how we operate. (Details are spelled out on Page 1.) Again, CONGRATS!

Ok. I found my way back! I was not sure if I should post my final numbers here or there, but I guess I will try them here... We were short and I had a feeling the vacation fund would not get funded, but hopefully we will be able to make our 2011 goals. They are higher than this year, but hopefully we will make it. I will post those next. Fund | Goals | Jan1st | 2010 End | YTD | Spent | % Met | Emergency Fund | $1,000 | $0 | $1,000 | $1,000 | $0 | 100.00% | Christmas | $600 | $0 | $600 | $600 | $0 | 100.00% | Boat Storage | $500 | $0 | $500 | $500 | $0 | 100.00% | Vacation | $2,000 | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | House Down Payment | $9,500 | $0 | $7,540 | $7,540 | $0 | 79.37%

I'm going to have to redo starting numbers and such since I totally messed up somethings. My goals are still the same though so I'll leave that part of the post intact. I've established my goals for the year but I don't know what our income situation is going to be like so our priorities will be: 1. Baby Fund - this is for maternity leave and any baby expenses we may occur 2. Dissertation Fund - even with funding, DH may need some additional funds or these can help pay expenses during his year abroad 3. Car Fund - the $600 is maintenance but we want to add as much as possible each month to save for new vehicle sometime this year or next I'm only going to track contributions and interest, not any spending since I've found that too complicated for my brain - especially the preggo brain . sbcalimom (formerly sbcaligirl on old WIRS board)

Hello to everyone that has switched from the old board and welcome to everyone new. I had to make a little modification to my username but it seems close enough. I need to get my info in the new chart format but I will be posting it soon . . . at least I hope.

During the 4+ years I was paying down debt (WIRR - International thread) the closest thing I had to an emergency fund was my credit card. The automatic deposits I made to savings accounts never amounted to more than 5% of my monthly income. You can imagine my excitement yesterday when I sent $140 to a interest-bearing savings account. My stomach felt like it was doing cartwheels. Part of me was saying "yeah! wonderful! Finally, you're paying yourself first!" while another part was screaming, "OMG. What have you done? Oy Vah Voi. You're a dead duck if something comes up later this month!" We had our charts on the Debt Racers threads, too, but I already realize that setting money aside to savings is a whole different ballgame. Paying off debt is like keeping in your tired, beaten-up-on, ineffective, starting pitcher. Putting money into savings is like bringing in your fresh, well-rested, fire-armed closer. It's a great feeling to be here, finally. Here's my update: Fund | Goals | Jan1st | Current | YTD | Spent | % Met | Car License | $425 | $0 | $40 | $40 | $0 | 9.41% | Car Repair | $2,000 | $0 | $100 | $100 | $0 | 5.00% | Car Ins | $450 | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Clothes | $285 | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Home Repairs | $700 | $0 | $150 | $150 | $135 | 21.43%

Woohoo!! It is AWESOME to see several familiar names posting their goals and INVIGORATING to see so many new gals!! dvm07 - You clearly are well on your way to your savings goals and it's only January 3rd! 25% of your way to your annual goals? You rock, girl!! Mak - I'm glad you decided to post your final stats for 2010 - you deserve a shout-out for making such great progress! Sure we're not always going to reach every single goal at 100% but I think we all agree how important it is to 1) share our goals to help with accountability, and 2) stretch ourselves a little bit beyond what we think we can do. So, good for you, you did both. And your goals for 2011 look inspiring - the thought of a vacation cabin in MN makes me drool with envy! sbcaliMOM - As I was making my own long table I thought of you and babybear; I think the 3 of us make the longest lists of goals. Whatever works best for us, right? Good idea to pick highest priorities, I should do the same, thanks for the unintended suggestion. Hi Kansas! Looks like you're stretching yourself this year too? And off to an excellent start! Psssst - Check your table, I think your % Met column isn't giving you credit for your savings so far. Writer88 - I wish we had a martini/beer mug smilie because I would raise a toast to you! In honor of your first $140 deposit to savings (raising our glasses) may it be the first of many! (clink! clink! clink! clink!) babybear19 - Welcome! I mentioned to sbcalimom that I was thinking of you and she when I was writing my uber-long list of goals by code. I hope it went relatively well for you. Planning on your next NKOTB Cruise? FUN! sealy - You are very welcome, that's what I posted it for. I just took the top few lines of my biggee so it doesn't have a totals row. Would you like me to post the code to make a TOTAL row for you? I've noticed a couple of gals don't have one and they might want one... if so, just say the word.

Great to see everyone over here. Savings isn't our biggest goal this year, as we want to really pay off debt before starting our family. But, I won't be leaving savings by the wayside, so I'll try to get some new goals up tomorrow when my brain is back on and I can tackle that fun code... best of luck in 2011 everyone!

oh my goodness...you all have so many different things that you are saving for. Maybe I will get to that point someday. For now I know that I need to start simply so that I can start to feel a little bit of savings success. I am just starting off with saving for my EF this year. Not only will I contribute to this fund monthly, but any and all extra money that comes in will go towards it as well. I know that starting with $1000 is the rule of thumb, but since this is supposed to be an annual goal, I want to try to go a bit higher than that as well as include what I already have in there so my totals match. I would like to have a total of $7500 in my EF by end of year. So here is my first update - I think I am doing this right 1/3/11 $2635 (1/3/11 $7500)

Cheerleadingmama - You are picking an excellent first goal! An emergency fund is a wonderful gift to give yourself. WIRS bottom line posts look kind of like this: Yourscreenname: today's date, total so far (date started, amount started with) So as of right now yours would look something like this: Cheerleadingmama7: 1/3/11 $2,635 (1/3/11 $2,635) Then, let's say next month you add another $1,000 so your second posting would be something like this: Cheerleadingmama7: 2/3/11 $3,635 (1/3/11 $2,635)I hope this helps you understand how we track a little better. It takes a little getting used to but after a while it'll become second nature.

Norway yes please I'd like one that looks like redwagon's bold on top and sides where i can insert my goals and the total line would be more than great too. Thank you soo much. I can't wait to get rolling. I'm going to start over when you post the other code. I just looked at one of my accts and remembered that I have IRAs and other savings that I didn't put down. so I'll restart and make sure i put my tag line:
Yourscreenname: today's date, total so far (date started, amount started with)
I don't have microsoft office only microsoft works so I couldn't download the other table that was posted. I just copied and pasted your codes to a new post and replaced your numbers and goals with my own. Thank you.

Nice to see you've joined us over here! redwagon - Your debt/savings plan makes perfect sense. The Scotland trip is in November and it is a sure thing. The Europe trip was supposed to be this summer with my boys, but.....my car isn't doing well and my dad thinks I need to replace it or put a bunch of work into it. Needless to say.....that may bump Europe back some. I work with an exchange student program so the trip to Scotland (flight and most of the hotel nights and several days food is all covered). I will just need to pay for a few extra nights and additional days of food. Makes that trip pretty affordable! Great to see all the newbies!!! Also, everyone has some great goals out there for saving this year. I hope everyone of you reaches them and more! Teachermom

Hello, all! I would like to join your group, if I may. I have a goal to save $20,000 between April of this year and April of next year when DH is deployed. Unfortunately, we really have no set plan of what to do with the money, is that bad?
