I think we may want to change the name of this board to something more appropriate. I suspect the technicalities of a name change are rather minor.
We have the Start Investing moniker because many of us moved to Start Investing from Market Talk and the MSN board was already named.
I was thinking something along the lines of "Serious Investing" or "Strictly Investing" but I'm open to other suggestions.
Any thoughts on this idea?
Another thing I'm curious about is how many combined years of investing experience we have on this board. I've been in the markets since the early 70s so I'm at 35 to 40 years of investing.

Serious investing sounds best. Got a 401K. Guess that does not count for much here. But I do rebalance it.

If it's Serious Investing, are you going to kick me out? Serious sounds... well too serious. How about something like Seek or Strive or Study or Strengthen or....

SBS, List the full names you are thinking of. Mine were just teasers to get the ideas flowing.
My intent is to let people know this is an investing forum and not just for starters.

Well, to be successful at this game, you have to be serious and dedicated. So "Serious Investing" may be appropriate. I started with first stock in 1948 (unfortunately it was capital stock in a fast defunct ice cream vending machine start up). Learn quickly from costly mistakes. Seems I never learn , have been taking on too much risk. But, changing my ways fast.

"Serious Investing" may be appropriate. I don't disagree, I was just throwing out other ideas that may attract other people to this board. It's going to be hard enough keeping the posters that SI had with this new board and I was thinking a more approachable name may help. <shrugs> I am assuming that you want to keep the SI. How about... Sharpen investments? Strengthen investments? Strategic investing?

I like Strategic Investing". What does it mean? I don't know if staying with SI is important or not. All I'm trying to do is see what the other posters think about a name change and if so, then what name.

I like Strategic Investing". What does it mean? When I think of Strategic Investing, I think of the different posters, how they like to invest and the give-and-take everyone has on the journal (best part of the previous board IMHO) using their investment preference. For example, Joan's investment strategy is to buy and hold; Blue likes dividends; Dan likes options; Mod likes emerging markets; you follow the technical charts as well as look into longer-term investments; etc., etc., etc. Hmmmm... if you can't figure it out, then it's probably not the best name. I'll keep thinking. I do agree though, Start Investing is not an accurate name.

Sage Investing Advice. Or Peer Investing Advice. That is my guess......be sure to add the FKA Start Investing. Although I think the old moniker has caused a few young ones to get some good advice.

How about Strategic Diversified Investing? We certainly are no longer about to Start! We try to make strategic investments, and we certainly are diversified in our investment strategies. Seems to fit the bill. The subjects that fall under the title seem to run the gauntlet.

Good day folks. I was shocked when I went to our penny stock board. Rovo, how about using one of the board names that they are discontinuing? And I started investing in 1989 so about 20 years for me.

I've been AWOL today as we were hit with a large snow storm here in South Jersey. Up at 6:00 and digging out by 6:15. Finished at 10:45 but too much work for this old guy so I had a serious nap.
Let's keep the ideas coming and then we will make some decisions on the name, probably via a poll.

uncle23, agree "BETTER INVESTING" would be good, in fact, keeps it simple and to the point. That's what we all strive for... hope I am finally getting there. Was far too much of a dice roller, and far to long. There's a time to hold 'em and a time to fold 'em, and a time to walk away. I'm walking away from the rock and roll scene (high risk), and time for the rocking chair (income stocks). Will finish the transition in 2011 when some good opportunity knocks at the door.

:-/Believe that is much too long a board title (at least after looking over the board title list). May be best to keep it simple.

I would be attracted to a board called "Investing: the Basics and Beyond", but I get a feeling from the posts above that you are all much more experienced than I am.

Don't Tase Me - Welcome! Yes, most of the posters on this board are experienced but they do help out newbies who are willing to learn. I'm still a newbie and these guys have put up with a lot of stupid questions from me. They are honest, willing to explain their rationale and yet, still don't tell others what to do. So, don't expect "answers" from them. Most importantly (for me), they are willing to nag me until I've gone up the next step.

"Investing: the Basics and Beyond" I'm one that has only "played" for a bunch of years & don't know all that much....just enough to get me into trouble! I prefer the one above...it sends the message that you can get both beginner help & more advanced help! I would be attracted to it more than one that sounds like a bunch of "know-it-alls" spouting out advice! Just my take on it!

k65, we all know enough to get in trouble. Especially when we think we know a lot. Constant vigilence.

K65, I like yours too. It takes in the full area that this board should do. Us oldtimers still make the same mistakes that beginers do but we make them less and less as time goes by, we hope. LOL

Hmmmmm. Interesting. That may work. There are a lot of good posibilities. Guess Rovo will compile and put it all to a vote with the most "hits" the winner.;
