www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/01/us_urges_americans_to_flee_egy.htmlCAIRO — The U.S. Embassy in Egypt on Sunday recommended that Americans leave the country as soon as possible, while other nations urged their nationals to avoid traveling to Cairo as days of protests descended into chaos, with looters roaming the streets and travelers stranded in the airport. The Sunday morning travel warning came as uncertainty mounted over how the demonstrations that have roiled the Arab world's most populous nation will play out. Those questions, coupled with the growing lawlessness, have panicked Egyptians and foreigners alike, with thousands flocking to the airport frantically trying to secure a dwindling number of available seats. Others hopped on private jets and made their escape. The travel warning said the Embassy will update Americans about departure assistance as soon as possible. Other nations, including China, France, Germany, Belgium and Russia have warned or advised their citizens against travel to Egypt. The U.S. has yet to send in any special flights, and the only American carrier with direct service to Cairo, Delta Airlines, has suspended that service. Other nations, however, have flown in additional flights to evacuate their citizens as a growing number of commercial flights are either canceled, suspended or delayed because of a curfew that only leaves a few hours in which people can freely move around the city. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan sent in over 15 flights in total to transport their national out of the country, an official at Cairo International Airport said, speaking on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to brief the media. Royal Jordanian and Bahrain's Gulf Air switched to larger flights to accommodate more people. Gulf Air's Chief Executive Samer Majali said the carrier is in touch with officials in both Egypt and Bahrain and is prepared to put additional measures in place if necessary. "As the national airline of the kingdom of Bahrain, it is our responsibility to ensure our Bahraini nationals are brought back home," Majali said in a statement. The protests have largely been centered on the main cities, including Cairo. The Red Sea resorts favored by European and Russian tourists have not been affected, though a growing number of tour companies are offering those who booked trips to Egypt either refunds or other destinations as alternatives, without penalty.

Obama is doing to Mubarak exactly what Cater did to the Shah of Iran. The end result will be the same, but now a radical Muslim theocracy is going to control the Suez Canal.

Your jumping the gun here..there is no Ayatollah in Egypt....the radical Conservatives, the brother hood are present but they are not in a majority or even accepted by the majority of the Egyptians. They will jockey for power when the chance comes, together with the other parties that will be formed and there is a lot of work to do that there, under Mubarak rein of 32 years..competitive parties were not allowed to flourish if really ex hist and you still have the Armed Forces here and I don't see them allowing a take over by force by the radicals unless the country went that way.

Our company's downtown Cairo office - the scene of the heaviest rioting has been closed until further notice.
Arrangements were made for 2 expatriates to leave earlier today.

I heard there is already trouble in the Suez Canal-- shipments being cancelled, postponed, and the like.

Yeh, right. Keep thinking those happy thoughts Dezi. I assure you, there will not be a Democratic Government that comes out of this. Military dictatorship, at the least, Anarchy at the far end, or a Religious leadership somewhere in the middle that will force 25% of the Egyptian population out of any political participation. Just so you know, that would be the Christian population.

It is not what we want for Egypt it is what they want. We can not expect all to want what we call democracy. I think that thinking has caused many issues with other countries. Not all want to be like us.

Anyone else get a kick out of watching the major news media's coverage of first and second generation immigrant Egyptian demonstrators in NYC demanding Obama do something to help with the overthrow of a UN recognized, sanctioned Government?
I would suggest, all of them go on the first flight available back to Egypt and fight the good fight with their families back in the old country. Do not try and get the U.S.A. involved in any way at all. They even believe a Democratic Government will be the end result. In three months they will all be petitioning the Government to bring all their families over here, because of Religious and Political persecution

We sure do. I am one of them. But, I am fortunate to have children helping me right now when I am out of work-- 3 months now, no unemployment because I was self-employed. Some are not so fortunate. Without my kids--- would I go out on the streets??? You bet. When you have nothing to lose, you have nothing to fear. I feel that way now, but it is not real, because of my kids. Without my kids............... yeah........... Not everyone has family to help them, you know.

Interesting food for thought. So, what do you suppose would happen if Tea Party Republicans got their way with drastic cuts to social programs, health care, etc? Would people just sit quietly in their shacks and cardboard boxes while dying of hunger and poor health?

Unfortunately I think we will find out - either when the government voluntarily pares back or when the government collapses

And the motivation is exactly the same. Carter wanted to install an Islamic fundamentalist and anti-American government in Iran to put the pressure on Israel. Obama wants an Islamic fundamentalist regime in Egypt to put pressure on Israel and damage the American relationship with one of the few allies we have in the Middle East. Both men (Obama and Carter) wear their anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism on their sleeves. It's no secret. Carter wrote and spoke of his dislike of Jews. Obama wrote and spoke (many times) of his dislike for America, her history and her people. There is no surprise here. Obama came out publicly in support of the anti-Mubarek mobs, and I don't think anyone was particularly surpised at that...I know I wasn't.

Yes, it will. I am glad it will not affect me, since our family is not a welfare family, even though we have no disposable income................ oh, stupid me, of COURSE it will affect me.......when the riots in the streets hit if the mooches lose their freebies, people like me that have nothing to do with this mess will have to bunker down. I wish like hell we had grown vegetables in the back yard instead of house dogs. It seems it is finally time for us to buy guns... I assume they are still selling guns in Tucson where I live and there was a mass murder recently..........

Sometimes it makes me sick to write these things, but I feel strongly that people need to know the truth. The lies and propaganda being pushed by the agenda-driven media and their supplicants are designed to mislead people into thinking our government is on our side. They are not...Barack Obama is an open manifestation of the anti-Semitic, anti-American, freedom-hating left wing that has been festering, sometimes hidden and other times openly, in this country for more than 40 years. They are a cancer, and there are only two outcomes for cancer as we all know.

My comp keeps messing up, not letting me copy things. I want to copy and paste this story, someone do it for me, okay? Forget it, it will not even stay still long enough for me to copy. Go to drudge.com- find the article titled Muslim Brotherhood, ElBaradei.. that is the one I want you guys to read. ME?? I have to, once again, restart my comp, as it will not let me copt CERTAIN things.. GEE-- I wonder why? SEE YA.

I can not believe any would agree with those words. But maybe not. Sigh,we have so many that think like this and they are the ones that prevent any coming together to fix anything.
