Thanks, Been There. I think they were looking for those willing to say " No " to the second question because they want to believe that the jurors will be impartial, even in regard to a convicted felon. I'm for a fair trial for everyone. But I believe recividism is quite real, partly because of the high unemployment in the inner city around here. Plus, I don't think the defense team realized this, but the door to the "prep" room or whatever you call it (where the hold the prisoner until he's brought out ), faced the jury box, and was partially open. I ( we ) saw them bring the defandant in wearing shackles, and the deputy sheriffs were taking them off of him before someone realized that the door was partially open. A sheriff deputy closed it, but the damage was done. His defense attorney's back was too the door, so he didn't realize what had happened. I think the damage was done.....I would have called for a whole new jury to be empaneled if I had been his attorney.

Driving to Sac, in my truck that gets 8 MPG at 250 miles would be just 31 gallons of gas one way. A hotel in a non-gangbanger area of Sac would easily be $100 a night during the week. I don't think $40 a day, paid who knows when, would cover it...

I just looked at the local court site and the guy I was called to jury duty for was acquitted.
He was charged with: DUI, DUI over 0.08, and DUI over .04 driving a commercial vehicle. He had the towns attorney who seems to get everyone off from this type of thing, has the big ads in the paper, etc...

hey, goldpanninggirl, I understand that in your circumstances it doesn't make financial sense to serve on a jury. I'm sure you've thought about selling your 8 mpg truck and buying something of equivalent value that's more energy efficient? Not just so that you can save enough money to serve on a jury and have it not be such a financial hit, but also because driving an 8 mpg truck is expensive no matter how short the distance ... All I was trying to do was dispel the notion that jury service is completely on your own dime. There is some reimbursement. It may not be enough for you but it could cover someone else's expenses.
Therein lies the rub for people who live in rural areas. When they are arrested, they can't get a jury of their peers if only the city folk are able and willing to serve.
