My brain doesn't really wake up till about lunch time. I abhor mornings. I had an ex bf who used to keep hitting snooze like Dark. I'd threaten to kick his ass out of bed then he usually got up.

True, but would you rather be frustrated every morning from having to listen to my obnoxious alarms go off over and over while I keep hitting snooze, or be frustrated from my mediocre performance in the sack, but at least I'd be up after one alarm? Sometimes you gotta take one for the team. If you are going to wake me up for that, it better be worth waking up for! Mediocre isn't going to cut it.

Mediocre is me putting everything I've got into it. Normally it's right in the kind of sad to "what, that's it?" area.

The obvious solution is for Dark to quit his job so he does not have to wake (both of you) up in the morning. Then you can go on food stamps and welfare and eat crab legs for dinner. I mean you are Democrats.

Yeah, but at 30 seconds a pop, it's really only a little over 2 hours a year.. so it's not like it's THAT much of a time commitment... Well, he left that part out.

I got one of those gradual light alarms. The light on the clock face gets brighter and brighter and THEN the alarm goes off. It is much less jolting than an alarm. Other question is do you go to bed at a decent hour? Have sleep apnea? My husband stays up late a lot. It doesn't make sense to me to go to bed at 3 when you know you have to get up at seven Oh and I also randomly set the bedside clocks to within about a half hour of the real time. Took him a long time to catch on to that. He'd Think he was sleeping in ... but he was really getting up on time.

Yeah, but it would take so long to bandage my feet in the morning that I'd still be late for work. Fair point, how about floorboards with varying degrees of electricity in them? The mildest one might just be the kind of shock you get from touching a doorknob with static on your finger, the worst one could cause a little brain damage. And if Loop wanted to play a funny joke one night, she could switch around which was which after you went to sleep

Do they make alarm clocks that are just little electrodes that shock you at a certain time in the morning? That would totally work, and I'd do it.

Yeah but they only work if you have moobies. Don't ask me how I know that.

I had to confiscate alarm duties from DW. She is a serial snoozer, but she can also fall back asleep immediately and actually get micro-rests. I would end up trying to fall asleep for 6 minutes, and then get jostled awake again at the next snooze. I was sick of wasting 1/2 hour, but not getting an extra 1/2 hour sleep.
So now I own the alarm, and our track record has improved. Usually the cats wake me up constantly. I'm seriously considering spending some nights in the basement.
I did threaten though that if we didn't get better about getting up and out on time, I was going to put the alarm clock across the room and tune it to the bible station.

The bible station? That would work for me.
So would Fox News.

I'm the snoozer in the family, but I only do it ONCE in the AM now and I'm working to get rid of that.
It doesn't matter though, DH goes back to sleep instantly and doesn't even remember getting up. I could wake him up to have a brief discussion, and he'd be able to roll over and go back to sleep as soon as it's over. It's ridiculous and I'm very envious.
On the other hand, he did apologize to me for not getting up earlier and giving me some incentive not to hit snooze.

sorry, Loop, but M-F I'm with Dark - but that's because work has sucked lately and i have zero reason to actually get out of bed and get myself there. from what I've seen him post about his job, I'd guess that is part of the problem. weekends, I have no problem getting up and moving....often earlier than I do M-F. what has worked for me in the past is scheduling a morning workout. are you guys good with working out together? maybe you can plan to go for a run in the morning, getting back around the same time the alarm would be going off?

MM has been handing out kool aid again... What?! It's the best way to wake up! I love running in the morning. Though it's true I can't imagine DH ever joining me, unless he were to randomly lose his mind.

I'm the one that controls the alarm. If I left it up to DH, we'd never get anywhere in the mornings. When the alarm goes off, he just covers his head with his pillow. Typical morning goes like this: 6am alarm goes off, i hit the snooze at least once. I try to get up on the second alarm. I make my coffee, make his breakfast, pack his lunch etc and try to get him out the door so he isn't late for work. He has to be to work a 1/2 earlier than I do.

I tried the multiple alarms thing. I hated it because I'd still wake up at the first alarm and the interrupted sleep was not good sleep. I much prefer just a ridiculously loud alarm that jolts me awake when I need to, no snoozing allowed. I get better sleep that way.
You guys have just helped me add a deal breaker to the list though, I think I'd shoot my hypothetical husband if he woke me up an hour+ before he needed to be up and kept waking me up for alarms. I'd compromise with one alarm and I'll literally kick you out of bed though.

So inspired by this thread I decided to set my alarm earlier this morning. Figured it's Friday, I can come in early, leave a little early, and get a jump start on the weekend.
So, there I am all snuggled up in bed, when my alarm goes off. I stumble over to the bookcase pick up my phone, stare stupidly at the display and my first thought is, "What insufferable moron set my alarm so friggin early?!?! I don't need to be up for at least another hour!" So I reset the alarm for 8:30 and went back to bed.
It's a work in progress.

You crazy, girl! I get up 1/2 hour before I am supposed to walk out the door. My morning routine is down to a science and the whole family knows to stay out of my way.

Normally I do too but this morning I had to finish packing and clean up the kitchen before driving to a different town and jumping on the train. So I got up a bit earlier.

hey it's better than waking up at 4:15 AM every day...but i told FI if he ever set the alarm for us to get up earlier than that, i'd demolish his black berry (it's what uses as an alarm) and he can explain to work why another one has been destroyed. and then i'd break every alarm clock in the house or anything that could be used as an alarm clock.
i also see no point in a 5 min snooze either, if you are going to hit snooze 8 times and it's 5 minutes just set it for a 20 minute snooze and hit it once or twice or a 40 min one and hit it once....they say you are more tired if you do the snooze thing a lot.....
the few times he was setting it for 345 and trying to put it on vibrate or a low tone, it would wake me up and not him, so i'd end up not so nicely nudging him in the ribs...which is why we have settled on 4:15, and yes that extra 30 minutes helps, but I'm still a zombie every morning and when the weekend comes it takes an act of God to get me out of bed before 830.

I'd kill anyone who set an alarm for 345am! The only way I see 345am is if I haven't been to bed yet.
I know you guys go into work really early but I wouldn't be getting up a second before I had to.
