All right peeps I have a question. WWYD if you found a frozen caterpillar in your frozen veggies when you poured them into a skillet to stir fry them with some meat? The sausage was already cooking in the skillet and I pulled the frozen caterpillar piece out, but should I eat the stir fried veggies? I already ate some from that bag yesterday I think but no insect pieces poured out.
I put the caterpillar back in with the frozen veggies as I think I need to bring it and the bag to customer service to get the refund. Part of me wonders if I should just see it as a potential bonus for the lizard but the Eww factor is high at the moment.
So WWYD? Dinner, or not, awaits your answer!

I would pitch it all and open a can of soup for the night. gross. hmm.....re-reading your OP - I would gather the pan contents to the bag (with sausage) and bring all of it back. I'd ask for* a new package of sausage too, while I was at it. *I wouldn't expect, nor make a huge stink about this one. veggies, absolutely.

If you eat veggies/fruit straight from the garden or orchard I'm sure you end up ingesting more than that over a summer. I'd probably just toss the caterpillar and finish dinner. If it were a band aid or something, that would be different.

I'd probably toss it all and ask for a refund (I live in Publix world and they'll pretty much give you a refund for anything you ask. I them). I'd also write a letter to the manufacturer. Not all "OMG I'm going to sue you", but a FYI your QA system kinda failed you should check into that letter. And then I'd be not so surprised when I got free coupons in the mail not too long later.

I did keep the veggies to the side, but my guess is its probably safe.

OMG Molly! Too bad it doesn't work that way. I'm somewhat tempted to give the caterpillar to the lizard, but I do want to let the store know QA wise as its their store brand of veggies. My last issue with a store brand of veggies was more detrius and lack of what I paid for. Different grocery store, so I brought it all in. Glad to see you and Rick think its OK. Googling caterpillars safe to eat didn't bring up as much as you'd think. Just read about corn and boiling makes it all good. ;D Stir frying seems so short in comparison but I guess there must be bugs(ha) in the process pipeline anyway.

I expect a standard of quality control in my packaged products, that's why I'm paying for the convenience of them. if I'm pulling stuff out of my own garden, I'm absolutely making sure I don't include any stowaways in the pickling jars. to me, that's no different than what you found tonight.

Meh. When you're ingesting most candy, fruit juice, gelatins, even some coffee, you're consuming squashed bug juice. That's where a lot of our red dye comes from. No biggie. I'd return the bag because I'm cheap and I'd like a free bag of veggies, but there's not a lot of "ick" factor.

I don't think Stop and Shop even carries that brand of chicken sausage so I'm not sure what I'd do. Last time I just got another bad of frozen veggies as a replacement but that just had frozen pieces of green bean plant in it so it was a lack of value as opposed to food safety issue to me. I still have to find the receipt to some cooking wine I've used more of than I should. It has brown residue that wasn't apparent until I used it a few times. I've been told by a friend to just take the bottle in, but I keep wanting to dig through my receipts.

Its actually a nice caterpillar, I'm wondering if they'd let me have it for my lizard after seeing it. He might like the change of pace.

So you'd just do it for the replacement veggie aspect? ------------------- Pretty much. Maybe I could feign some righteous outrage and demand that they upgrade it to a name brand.

Hey, people pay good money to eat chef-prepared fried, dried and sauteed bugs at the Montreal Insectarium.

Give the caterpillar to someone who'll enjoy it and you can enjoy the veggies. Ain't gonna hurt ya a bit!

I would throw it out and go out to eat. I do assume that bugs will be in my food, because mass-production/not a big deal (I scrape buggy stuff off of farmer's market produce!) but I have an extra ick-factor for anything larval, so for my comfort level I would go out and eat food that didn't have distinct bug bits.

I would just pull that out of the pan and go on. Kind of like finding a cherry pit in a cherry pie or a fish bone in a fish platter - it happens.
If you eat a salad your white blood cells jump as they rush to fight off the bacteria that you consumed with the raw veggies. That's why you have an immune system, to protect you from all the unexpected travelers that you consume every day. Yes a caterpillar is bigger than a bacterium, but frankly I'd rather eat that than some e coli.

If THIS bothers you enough not to eat it, and you knew about them, you would end up starving to death.

Scream, run, refuse to eat EVER again, and then give in when DH brought me an Oreo cookie and hour later....

Just bring it to CS and tell them you bought that there and it had the catapillar in it and it ruined your dinner with the sausage. I am sure they will give you a new bag of veggies and a pack of sausage. I don't think it matters what brand or where you bought it since it wasn't the problem, just that their product ruined it.
