When can you go back to give the plasma again? Last time that happened to me I had a bruise from halfway down my forearm to my shoulder and I couldn't give blood or plasma for like 90 days because it counted as a blood donation since I didn't get the cells back.

They told me, but i forget how much. I'll have to use my other arm though. it's good to have 2 arms.

I've given 45 times. Only had a problem once and they asked if I wanted to try my other arm. I said yes and it was fine. I did the double needle and machine once and it went bad. They had to stop because of a machine malfunction. I passed out for a few minutes while they were disconnecting me. I've never passed out. It was a weird feeling. When I came to I had no memory of passing out.

Somebody told me that you when you donate plasma regularly, you get "track marks" that make it look like you're a druggy. Is this true? yes actually...both my arms have little scars/holes on them...I tell people it's my heroin addiction. supposedly if you rub vitamin E on it, it will lessen the scars.

I actually looked to see if a place by me would pay for plasma donations. The closest place to my house, i think, was actually closer to you.

For some reason I can never remember what blood type I have. The one and only time I gave blood I was told that it was rare and I should donate. No one offered to pay me anything. I'm A+ just like my personality

No. They tend to stick the same spot over and over so eventually you'll have a little dent in your arm just south of the bend in your elbow but not tracks like a junkie. I have a giant dent in my left arm, and barely a mark on the right. Left arm hurt less. One of the many fun things I learned while married to someone as useless as XH.

yes actually...both my arms have little scars/holes on them...I tell people it's my heroin addiction. Yeah, I've got the same thing from whole blood donations. Occasionally I get an inept phlebotomist who goes straight through the vein instead of into it; last time she asked, "Did that hurt?" Actually it didn't hurt any more than usual but she called over someone else to stick my other arm. Later I had a large bump under the first site- internal bleeding, of course. The pressure bandage relieved some of the discomfort and it was better by the next day. Which reminds me- I'm due to donate again. I'm surprised they haven't called me.

Yeah, when they tried to give me blood after my last surgery and my IV infiltrated. It was painful, left a hell of a bruise on my hand and seemed to take forever to get a nurse to respond after I called her. Actually, it probably didn't take forever, but when blood is being pumped under your skin, it HURTS and seems like forever,

I have O negative blood, one of the rarest. It is the universal donor. I can only receive O -. I've never been paid to give. I feel like I was given this type for a purpose to give back to those in need. (emergency responders when they don't have time to type, and children's cancer wards). I remember a case of an injured police medevac helicopter pilot who needed blood. He took 165 pints before dying. That shows how quickly the blood banks can be depleted.

When you give platelets, you are not being paid for your blood, but the time it takes. Giving platelets takes 2-3 hours.....long enough that where it is not a quick process. Under normal circumstances, I donate blood too. But they don't want me for at least a year now, since I was transfused in June. If I get transfused in Oct. after my next surgery, it will be Oct. 2013 until I can donate.

I donated yesterday, #106.
I got paid when I was over in Saudi Arabia, it was 500 Saudi Riyals or about $140.
