Slightly off-topic hick question... I'm not great with hair and can only do really basic stuff like wash and kinda blow dry it, so don't yell at me if this is a stupid question, but several people have mentioned that this would be an expensive cut done in a salon. Isn't this just the opposite of that, though? I mean, if I wanted this look, even as hair challenged as I am, this would be something I'd do at home with a razor in about 5 minutes, right? What am I missing? Beat me milee. But (for the 3rd time) how hard is this look going to be for DD to maintain? Who's shaving the stubble - the salon, Dark or Loop or DD?

Only thing I could see is if she wanted the layers and didn't have them.

She can take care of the maintenance if they have clippers.

Probably Dark, he's better with the clippers.

"Because my self-worth isn't attached to my looks?"
Your worth is abviously not attached to your looks but how others perceive you is. I certainly wouldn't go out to a club looking like I just rolled out of bed. While I have confidence (some say too much!lol) in myself, I know that putting my best foot forward matters in life. Hell, studies have shown that more attractive people get jobs over uglier people so it's not that I perceive that people are judged by their looks, the really are.

I was responding to the comment that getting dolled up to go out in public is a sign of self-respect and self-love. Sometimes people don't give a rat's patootie what people perceive them as being and THAT is a sign of self-respect and self-love. Is anyone else reminded of the make-up thread right about now?

People are judgmental asses, that's life. How you deal with it is on you. I honestly never considered it, but then I wasn't paying attention to her hair. Agree on the latter part. People are judgemental assholes, the ability to flip them off and do as YOU want is one of the most valuable lessons I can teach my kids.

Yes! it is my philosophical choice to decide when my looks matter and when they don't.

No, attractive people don't just think about their looks but it still amazes me how some people will go out in public looking like they slept in the clothes for 3 days and didn't bother to brush their hair, either. Why would you not want to look the best you can as often as you can? I'm not talking about wearing heels to plant the garden, either. It's self respect and self love. If you don't feel it for yourself, you can't feel it for others. if Im running out to cvs on Saturday morning for tampons, the last thing on my mind is putting on a show for others. I still love myself, i just need to go stat. Or if i go to the bank before i workout. Im not going to shower only to.have to shower again. I run errands after the gym all the time, and since I live 10 miles out of town and the gym is near the grocery store and Walmart, I'm not running back home to shower and pretty up. I care what I look like, but it's not the end all and be all of my existence. If you can't deal with a little sweat, then that's yoru problem. I had some pretty funky haircuts in junior high. My mom was a hairdresser and would do whatever I wanted her to. I found that I look really cute with short spiky hair, and really crappy with the "flock of seagulls" look. ETA: I also learned that attempting to bleach black hair with Sun In has disastrous results and bozo orange is not a good color for me.

here's the thing about hair...some hair style make a woman look better, some make a woman look worse.
But no woman looks good with a mullet.

My poor daughter is going to have a heck of a time with her hair. She inherited my really awful, thin, terrible hair. I hope she can figure out creative ways to do it so that it looks good.

another thing about women and their looks.
The hotter the woman, the more she cares (generally speaking of course...there are exceptions)
women who "aren't so hot" ... well they generally don't care what they look like and a lot of times still think they look good.

Tattoos are permanent, so I feel that is different, I suggest they wait till their 20's, but as soon as I don't have to sign a form it's up to them...
Zib, I'm starting to wonder now about how much trouble you often say our daughter was... were a lot o the arguments over things like this? Just curios, you don't have to say... Obviously...
