I don't think you should have left EE, MU.....

No. I don't always answer the door. Most of the time i don't unless i am expecting someone or it is one of my kids' friends. Actually, a lady was at the door the other morning and i looked out and didn't know her so didn't answer. Then she went next door and knocked so she was peddling something i didn't want.

yes, i always answer the door. i NEED to know who it is!!! I live out in the middle of nowhere, if you've found my house, you either know me, or are horribly lost. Or my Alzheimer's ridden neighbor who needs help finding his house.

My parents knock differently than everyone else so I know if it's one of them, otherwise, if I'm not expecting someone I don't get too excited about the door. Still trying to teach my youngest to stay away from it and let me deal with it. Last unknown knock was JWs and I looked through the crack in the blinds and walked off.

I don't always answer it. Most of the time I'm able to spot the person walking up to the door, and if I don't know them I don't answer. I've had enough dinner time sales pitches to know better. We have young nephews and nieces nearby, so sometimes it will be them looking for a pit stop during their bike rides or they'll want to play with their cousin (our son).

I always answer when somebody knocks. Like this one time, my Korean neighbor knocked on my door. I was in the middle of cleaning the kitchen, and he offered me some homemade egg rolls.
his egg rolls were the best I ever had!! way better than the egg rolls you get at a restuarant.
I had to quickly eat all the egg rolls though, b/c I didn't want os share his delicious egg rolls with anyone else!
;D

I always answer my door, but I don't want to. I might just start the 'no thanks' through the door thing after reading here though. Unless it's a kid selling cookies or popcorn. If I know them from my kids school, they get to sell something. If I don't, I assume they're poaching and they get nothing.

We generally hear the sound of the gate opening, and take a quick peek to see if we want to get up. The Jehovah's though, they're crafty. They have learned to come through the driveway, and knock on the downstairs door, so we think it's a neighbor. I have slammed the door in their faces a few times. We don't even answer the house phone anymore, we're that antisocial.
We get very few random people knocking on the door. We are at the end of a dead end block, and you have to pass a few rather large empty lots to get here. Also, there are multiple neighbors who work from their home or are retired, so if a stranger walks down you can bet that at least one of them will come out onto their porch to stare them down.
What bothers me is that my brother will leave his door unlocked, and send his friends over to the house to get things. Like a game, or a drink, or a pair of basketball shorts. It's kind of creepy when you think you're alone in the house, and some random teen comes into the kitchen to grab something from the fridge. But my parents haven't been able to break him of this habit yet. I am so grateful that he is going off to college in a few weeks.

I answer the door. CLose friends and family knock. Anyone else rings the doorbell. I figure if they can stand the noise of the dogs barking until I answer, they deserve to be rewarded. But the dogs give me a good excuse to close the door if it's someone I don't want to speak with.

I always answer the door. It's not usually locked, anyway. It just got weird once.

When someone knocks or rings the doorbell, my heart races and I get a bit panicky. (People scare me.) We live in a pretty safe neighborhood, I think, and I'm not afraid of being harmed, just of interacting with another human being.
So I go and hide while Spouse puts on pants and is social.

I had one of those unexpected knocks tonight. I answered it. It was my seasonal neighbors asking if I could help them launch their jet ski into the water with our tractor. I did, and the it didn't start, so it involved towing them to their hoist, taking out the battery, and hookingit up to our charger. I shouldn't have answered the door.

I don't answer the door very often (love my peep-hole). If the dog is in the house and I made the mistake of answering it for a salesman, I just tell them they're bothering my dog Lately we've been getting a lot of the "free window replacement estimate" people.

I am a single, older woman living alone-no dog, just a cat.
I NEVER answer the door if I am not expecting someone or it is someone I do not know (neighbor, friend, relative) ringing even though my auto license plates match my address so they KNOW I am probably home. I do have a peep thing in the door to easily check.

I live on a well travelled street, so I disconnected the door bell. Folks I may want to see, know enough to knock. Those hapless solicitors who knock get a few choice words after being asked to produce their permit to solicit. Most don't have a permit, and if I am in the mood, I call the cops in front of them.

Our door is mostly glass. Although I like the look, the privacy is another story. But this is coming from a woman who doesn't buy window treatments so I can't really complain about no privacy.
