I've been at work for over 10 hours, and I still don't feel like going home.
What's the point. I'm either going to be bored there or bored here.

I've had that. Not recently - I'd rather be at home with my family. But there are definitely days where I'm just fine sitting here. At home, I have dishes and laundry and stuff, and I'd rather be bored doing my boring work tasks than bored doing my boring home tasks.

Yup. I have to deal with a car that has a dead battery. Happens to be my car. Good news is that the battery is under warranty. Bad news is that we will have to charge it and get it in for service tomorrow.

I'm afraid to go home right about now. My youngest has been cleaning house since yesterday. She's either up to something, or she did something I'm not going to like. I'm scared.

The best part of my day is getting to go home No where I would rather be than with DH and DD. When I was with the X though, I would dread going home & signed up for OT every chance I got.

Really? You rather be at work than home???!!!
I'm out that door so fast at 5, I'm a blur. Don't you have hobbies? I do not have enough hours between work and bed time to accomplish all I want to do. By the time I make supper and clean up, walk dogs. I have about an hour left to read, study my latest university course, practice my viola or for my singing lessons. I squeeze going to the gym into my lunch hours interspersed with various music lessons and walking dogs at the SPCA. Then there is the stuff I'd like to do like weed my flower garden or plant a vegetable garden( missed this year will have to wait til next) but never get around to it.
I can't even fathom preferring to stay at work

"Don't you have hobbies?"
Not really, just video games, and I've gotten tired of them as of late. I also don't have anyone to go home to, just seems pointless.

That is one of the good things about drinking. You can't do it at work (at least not my work) so, it gives me something to go home to.

Join a community group that shares your interests?
Start a community group to share your interests (MeetUp?)
Hit up the local watering hole of you choice (with the gender of your choice) and start mingling?
Get a dog?
Take up Zen Meditation? Basketweaving? Broom Ball? Surfing? The Cello?
Join a gym? Plant a garden? Read to old folks in the local nursing home?
There are those of us with two full-time lives (work and home obligations) who occasionally envy someone like you with lots of free time and very few "calls" on it . . . just sayin' . . .

I totally could have posted this a couple years ago. I know exactly how you feel. In my case I still had two kids to keep me busy at home though. You'll find another hobby before too long. Or take up drinking. Definitely one of the two though.

"Join a community group that shares your interests?"
That's the problem, I don't really have any "interests."
"Start a community group to share your interests (MeetUp?)"
See above.
"Hit up the local watering hole of you choice (with the gender of your choice) and start mingling?"
Maybe, I've tried this a couple of times. It usually goes like this. I go to a bar, order a drink and then start awkward conversation with someone I don't know (so, how 'bout them broncos) then get bored and leave.
"Get a dog?"
Actually would like to get a dog. But I live in an apartment and living alone, I'd have to let the dog out before work and leave it alone for 9 hours a day. This doesn't count grad school. In short, I can't take good care of a dog, so I don't think it would be fair to get one.
If I had a yard and/or someone to watch the dog while I was on travel, then maybe.

Me neither - can you fake some? I went and got my MBA when I was bored. After that, I had babies.

Sounds like you're in a bad spot right now, Phoenix. I know boredom can be paralyzing. Hope things start looking up for you soon.

I used to feel that way in an apartment; it was really small, not a lot of room for hobbies or cooking, and DF worked on the weekends so I was alone a lot. It felt like I just went into storage until it was time to work again. Working on a fixer-upper house and playing with a kitten takes up a lot of time now. Would getting a roommate maybe help in your situation? Living with a cluster of people is sometimes really nice, just because there's always something going on; someone trying a new dish, or someone watching a movie or having friends over. It forces shyer people to meet others more too. I admit I still haven't met our neighbors because now that it's just us, I hide some

Ha, it's funny because I often envy those people who have full time lives, who have a family and home obligations. The grass is always greener I guess.

That's pretty much how I feel. It feels like I go to work, just to go home, putz around, go to sleep, and wake up and do it all over again. It feels like I've been doing that for the last several years, and I feel like I"m wasting my life. I feel like I should be doing something, something to give my existance meaning, but I'm not sure what.

I think you should enjoy this while you can before your classes start. Then you won't want to go home because school work will be waiting for you.

Phoenix - I always suggest to people to make a list of 10 or 15 groups to join or places, and then go and see if any of them suit your lifestyle. Sure, you may not care totally about the cause, but it will give you something to do, and meet some people. It also may lead you to other activities that interest you more than the one's you started with.

Can you build something cool? Make a bunch of bird houses or something. I don't know if I ever feel like not going home, but I know sometimes I feel like running away from home.

Phoenix, seriously: go check out the MeetUps in your community. You might find something there you didn't even know existed that interests you.

The classes are part of the problem. I don't want to start something that requires any regular commitment because I will likely not be able to follow through due to grad school. One of the few "interests" i've ever had was martial arts. And I think I'd like to get involved, but martial arts classes would likely interfear with my school schedule.

Too much time on your hands, outgrown your childhood interests, and in need of meaning in your life...
Time to procreate buddy.
Put an ad on Craigslist saying basically what you said here, and that you need to find a woman who's biological clock is driving her nuts. If nothing else it'll give you some variety and amusement for a couple weeks. There's even a theoretical chance that you'll meet a woman who's not a total nut. Not a great chance mind you, but a chance.

My SIL is a CPA and small business partner, and she's right on the verge of becoming a crazy cat lady if she doesn't pop out a kid soon. I could send her an email for you.
ETA - She's pretty cute, but god love you if you can deal with her crazy.

...call the local SPCA and dog rescue... check about their volunteer programs... that way, you get to pick up a flex after-hours schedule, play with all kinds of furry friends, run around, burn calories, yada yada, and still get a nice resume booster/networking opp... ...as a bonus, you can also scope out the adoption candidates for possible dates...
