We are celebrating our 4th year wedding Anniversary on August 23rd. We took that whole week off but my wife promised her friends to spend the 21st and 22nd with them in NYC, actually she is picking them up from the airport that Tuesday (one is coming from Haiti, the other Paris so too late to ask her to cancel)
So I am thinking a short trip from the 23rd till the 26th but can't seem to find anything interesting, so figure I will ask you guys. - Vegas? - Chicago is a no since she is going there with her cousin for 3 days on Labr Day weekend - Canada? I don't want to drive and been there 3 times this year already (Toronto and Montreal) - Massachusetts, we are going there Thursday morning and leaving Friday night. For work interview but we will still make it fun, my interview is not till 10 on Friday. - Cruise? No because my wife passport just expired and she did not apply for a new one yet - Flying will need to remain in US because of the passport thing - couple resorts? Have you tried one? Any good recommendations?
Budget: $1,000 to $1,500 ($1,500 being the max). Also trying to keep it a surprise and have been acting as if I don't want to do anything and just want to relax (came to bite me in the ass since she decided that it would be no harm to schedule 2 days in NYC with her girlfriends).

Why not just keep it local and go to a Bed and Breakfast and explore or antique or something?

I was going to suggest an all inclusive resort that TD and I have been to. It's absolutely gorgeous, good food, nice rooms on the beach in Mexico.
Right now, bookit has the dates 8/23-26 flying out of Albany for $959/person, taxes and tips included.
Only about $500 more than you were looking at, but since it's all inclusive, there is no need to spend another dime once you get there. Too bad your wife doesn't have a current passport. Can she look at getting an expedited one?

However, Cleveland is a fun place to go. There is the Hall of Fame, the Flats and other things to check out.

Why not just keep it local and go to a Bed and Breakfast and explore or antique or something? Local for me is Oneonta, NY. We've done the exploring here everytime we gotten a chance in the pas 5 months since we just moved here. Next would be Cooperstown and with summer time/baseball camp season everything is booked solid. And baseball/antique is just not our thing.

Thank you

Finger lakes winery tour. Already doing that with another couple in two weeks. She is from that area and invited us to tag along and we said yes. ETA: is it fun? I am not a wine person but my wife is so that is why my friend and his fiancee invited us. I am more hard liquor and beer

Have you been to Niagra Falls? You could visit the U.S. side.
The Poconos would make an interesting anniversary trip.

FYI - If the cruise leaves and returns to the same US port you can have an alternative to the passport i.e. driver's license and birth certificate (there's a list of combos). At least that's how it is for the cruises that leave Florida ports.

It's been years but the Poconos used to have resorts that were made for couples to celebrate their aniverseries. Anyone else remember Mt Airy lodge? It is kind of a heart shaped tub in the bedroom kind of hotel Carl. I have no idea what resorts are still there but I have heard of people going there so I know they still exist.

Our Northeast vacation a couple years ago all hit places close to you: Niagra Falls Adorondak Mountains - hiking at Saranac Lake and then the Olympic Museum at Lake Placid We skipped Fort Ticondorago because the weather was terrible site seeing through the mountains of vermont and New Hampshire Acadia National Park Cape Cod for a day (there is a lot more than a days worth of stuff to do at Cape Cod) PLymouth Boston
My Aunt and Uncle live in Bimghamton and they took us to Ithica for the day which was very cool
My Cousin got married at a Winery outside of Dunlap. Very pretty (and the wine was good) Things I would still like to see fairly close to you - Poconos, Alleganey Park, Letchworth State park, spend more time in the Adorondaks or along Lake Onterio

am I immature for giggling to myself every time I see someone mention the Finger Lakes? I agree with the Poconos and OCMD. What about LBI or the Hamptons? I'd love to go to Newport, so that sounds nice as well.

If you're not into baseball and antiques, what DO you like to do?
Do you prefer beach or mountains or city or countryside?
I have some suggestions, but need more info.

However, Cleveland is a fun place to go. There is the Hall of Fame, the Flats and other things to check out. I live in Ohio, so I know Cleveland. Whats there to see except the lake? The city is quite boring (and mostly dead), specially for someone used to living in NY. I wouldn't spend $1500 to visit to Cleveland. Cinicinnati is WAY more happening in this state.

What about Disney? Allegiant Air has direct flights from Allentown to Orlando that are usually pretty cheap...
ETA: Or what about Atlantic City? Nice time to go when you can do beach/boardwalk stuff and casino. There are always great concerts and shows to go to, also. Cape May is beautiful, too, and a short drive from AC.

I'm not about to google "sex vacations" at work. I'm just saying a rocking hotel room made for love is much more his style than a view of a lake or a baseball game.

I just went to Cape May this weekend - meh. I love love LOVE Atlantic City though. They've done a lot with the beach/boardwalk area over the last few years. DH and I celebrated our 5 year dating anniversary (and then our engagement) in AC. We stayed at the Fantasea resort on the boardwalk. We ended up getting a gorgeous corner room with a really nice view of the ocean. Also, there are TONS of food options. The casinos tend to have good buffets (I highly recommend the Caesars and Harrah's buffet) and there are a lot of good regular restaurants on the boardwalk. The Pier Shops are nice - your wife can window shop at LV, Tiffany, Burberry, and they also have stores that are actually affordable. Dammit, now *I* want to go to AC!

We're heading out on vacation at the same time. Heading up to Ohio, actually, but stopping for a few days in the Asheville NC area first. Been there before and love it. Very beautiful scenery, lots of good hiking, bike riding, shopping, restaurants, antiquing, historic tours, etc.

LOL, we used to do a girls long weekend trip there twice a year. Haven't been in a few years now, but is always a good time. LOVE the Irish Pub for food and beers!

I've always passed the Irish Pub but I've never gone in. I'm not a big drinker ( ) but I LOVE good food! CAIWAU - Food Network does a Food and Wine Festival weekend in AC in August. I'd recommend going to AC during that time. I'm sure your wife would love it.
