I was in National Honor Society. Back in the "old days" all you had to have was good grades.
My kids school started one when my youngest was there (before that was Beta Club???)
I was really disappointed at the application my DS had to fill out. He had good grades, was an Eagle Scout, played varstiy football and tennis for a 4 years and active in his church group, works part time, yet he felt like he wouldn't get in. The application was like "List all service, volunteer and leadership positions you have held. ATTACH ADDITIONAL SHEETS IF NECESSARY!!!"
He did get in.

Now you can't even get in unless you have been forced to volunteer.

Proud president of the NHS at my high school way back when...
But to counter the geekdom, I was also on the basketball, track and cross country teams.

I was recruited or whatever you call it but I, like Zib's son, refused to be voluntold anymore than I already was. I had other activities and a family to volunteer me for shit, I didn't need some academic club forcing me to do more.
I did do Model UN one year because the BF was and wanted company. lol

I was in NHS and was required to do tutoring... was supposed to be tutoring math, but I also spent a great deal of time listening to these girls problems with their boyfriends. I was also a yearbook editor, editor in chief of the newspaper and in art club.
