I'm judgmental...in real life, I usually sit there and judge silently...but I am an honest and blunt person so if I truly care about you or if you ask my opinion, I don't sugar coat it.

I posted and then went on my morning walk.... Thinking more about it, I realized that I am also judging some YM'ers after having read some of the tipping thread (I had to stop reading it though, and will avoid them in the future). I can't believe some people under-tip on purpose, regardless of the quality of the service. Tipping and being rude to servers are a pet-peeve of mine, so this is a hot button issue for me. I need to work on my judging issues (and it's not like I'm perfect or anything!) People who undertip are cheap and deserve to be judged.

I may HATE the waitstaff tipping system in this country, but I give them at least 15% (unless they were God-awful).

I'm not a fan of the tip system, but it is what it is, and I'm not going to screw some poor server out of their money to make a point.

Hey Daphne, I hear you, and good on you for reflecting. It is easy to just say, oh, well, we all judge, and shrug it off, but being overly critical is really just another form of negative thinking. Both are things I am working on and have a problem with also. The thing to me is that being too negative/judgmental hurts me, not the lowlife I am judging.
I have also noticed that the really successful people I know are not as negative/judgmental because they are too focused on themselves and productive things. Not that they are never judgmental, but it seems to be much less frequent than with less accomplished folks (like me).

In my experience, people who say they don't judge are kidding themselves. Everyone judges.
I judge people all the time but for me, it doesn't stop there. I'm rarely closed off to the idea of learning something new or seeing a situation in a different way than before. It usually won't change my mind if I have a fully formed and firm opinion about something but I definitely appreciate the discussion. If nothing else, discussion forces me to think through why I believe what I believe.
Also, there's mean-spirited judging and I do try to avoid that. I might think your decision to do X is bad but I try not to conclude that you are a bad PERSON because you did X. As much as possible, I try to base my judgments on behaviors and actions. Much more concrete and justifiable than judging people's character.

We all judge, but there are people who are such perfectionists and hold themselves and others to such a high standard that they push people away.
I would imagine many of us have experienced this with a co-worker that we avoid because their negativity brings people around them down. I am not trying to avoid judging people, but I am very keen on avoiding those types of people or being one of those people.
