In 2006, I bought a hdtv for our living room for Costco. They were still fairly expensive back then. At the time, Costco had a "customer satisfaction guarantee" that they later changed to a two-year warranty. I bought it under the old warranty (primarily for that reason). Today we discovered it was dead.
Today I contacted Costco to see if they were going to honor the original warranty, and apparently they will. They asked me to let them know if I needed a return shipping label or wanted to return it to my local Costco.
Wow! I know they now have a different policy, but I am still impressed. I actually own stock in this company because I believe in their business model. They respect their customers.
I needed this good news right now with my husband just getting out of the hospital. After we found out the tv died, my sister and I moved my bedroom tv into the living room because he will be coming home tomorrow. I am, however, the techno klutz. With a little luck, I can get a new tv installed in the living room before she leaves on Monday.
Like the headline says, Costco rocks!

Yep - they are one large chain that I absolutely have no qualms about supporting. They are phenomenal.

In September, we stocked up on adult diapers for the MIL using a CostCo coupon. In October she went in for knee replacement surgery. In March, she passed, never having come out of care after the surgery. We had 3 or 4 unopened packs of diapers/pads (boxes costing $40 each). In late March, early April, we brought them back to CostCo and they gave us a cash refund.
Because of everything that was going on in our lives at the time (and general forgetfulness) it took us like 9 months to bring in our old car battery after buying a new battery at CostCo. The guy found it in their sytem and gave us the refund they promise when you bring your old battery in.

I used to shop there, but then I found out Costco supports the boy scouts and Komen!!
I refuse to shop there ever again...although I forget which organization I'm currently protesting...

I'm boycotting Komen but I'm boycotting it because they don't manage their money appropriately.

I used to have a membership at Costco years ago but let it lapse after a couple of years because I don't need megasized groceries, and because it was 15 miles away and had rather early closing hours. Now there is one about 6 miles away. I did like buying large quantities of chocolate there, which was another reason to drop the membership. What kind of merchandise do you buy there? Are there any categories where their prices are exceptionally good or exceptionally poor?

I buy everything from tires to tvs. My husband bought his hearing aids from Costco and loves them. I also buy all my gas there. Their bakery is particularly good if you are giving a party. And I can't beat lunch there when I have Saturday School. After it's over, I fill up the car and eat the $1.50 hot dog special (all beef and kosher).
We don't spend a fortune there, but I have a Costco American Express so the bonus check from there pays for my membership each year.

I buy paper products, vitamins, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, soup, bagels, coffee, cereal, olive oil, canned tuna (Costo's Kirkland brand is better quality than the national brands), canned chicken and turkey (Costco brand again--really good for sandwiches and casseroles), rice, batteries, light bulbs, garden tools, and random appliances and computer equipment and supplies, and that's just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head. I, too, bought stock in Costco because I like them so much. Also, I try to time my shopping trips for when I need a full tank of gas. I once calculated that if I made just one or two gas purchases a month at Costco, it would more than cover the membership fee. And cleaning supplies. And fancy cheese. And salmon.

Our Costco shopping list is pretty similar. I might be able to beat Costco's prices watching for a sale +coupon, but I do know that their everyday prices are lower than the everyday prices at the other stores and I don't have to run around keeping track of expiration dates/sales dates. We get their sales/coupon flyer every few months and plan purchases around that.
They respect their customers. And treat their employees decently as well (which probably accounts for the excellent customer service)

It would be easier to ask what don't we buy at CostCo. I will add that we have a chest freezer and have turned part of our basement into a pantry. toilet paper paper towels dog food dog treats dog flea treatment rice pasta milk produce (this weekend it was baby spinach and bananas. sometimes it's bell peppers or cherrie or pineapple, etc) meat (chicken thighs and ground turkey) bread frozen treats convenience foods (poppers, taquitos, pot stickers) cheese cereal popcorn diet shakes trail mix mac n cheese
And that's just regular groceries. We also buy towels sheets jeans & tshirts for DH socks underwear telephone digital camera cooking supplies (cookie sheets, cheese slicer, pots and pans) vitamins pain killers shampoo/conditioner razors/shaving cream car battery windshield wipers flashlights batteries
We used their print services. With DH's old insurance, we got his glasses there. When MIL was alive, we bought her adult diapers there.
Pretty much, if I can buy it in bulk, I will. We only shop at the grocery store for things we can't get at CostCo, or items that we won't use a bulk amount of- such as specific herbs for a specific dish.

Our freezer arrived a week ago and we went yesterday to make our first purchases a Costco to "fill it". Of course $300 didn't put a dent in it. It will take a long time to actually fill up the freezer.

There's a Costco with a gas station directly on my route between home and work. Their gas is routinely 5 to 60 cents cheaper than anywhere else in my regular line of travel. I put gas on my Costco-Amex card and get 3% back every year. I go inside for the same staples everyone else is describing. Love them!
