it's to help the tearing heal after a vaginal birth. of course if you don't tear they're not necessary....never had hemorrhoids, never tore.... please tell me what you did to have your kids slide out like toothpaste coming out of a tube.

My folks have been married for 62 years and had seven kids in nine years and both worked outside the home, Mom part-time. Family was a PRIORITY. That is what I come from. Family was a PRIORITY with my hubby's parents. It DOES make an impact. IMO

u/s - With the u/s as some else said, they can be off as you get closer to your due date. With DD, she should have been a pound or so more than she was when she was born. carseat - I do recommend new or from someone you know so you can verify it wasn't in an accident. stroller - We do have a stroller that matches the car seat, a jogging stroller, and an umbrella stroller. Of all the strollers, I've probably used the jogging stroller more as it doubles as a high chair at my mom's (has a snack tray) and I can take it on more terrian (e.g., the beach, bumpy areas). The umbrella stroller is nice for a quick trips to the store. FWIW, I didn't buy the jogging stroller until DD was about 8 months old. Before that, I used the stroller that matched the car seat. Also, DD's car seat does snap into both the matching stroller and the jogging stroller. diapers - I do recommend at least 1 package of newborn diapers (unopened) in case you need them for when the baby comes home. At the hospital, you'll be able to use theirs. If you don't need them, then you can return them. A Costco membership (or other club warehouse) would be great! DH and I have 1 to BJ's and that's where I buy my diapers and formula mainly. Personally, I like Luvs the best, but everyone has their own preferences. Currently, I'm using generic CVS or Walgreens as they were cheaper than Luvs; however, I'm not a fan of Walmart's generic diapers. When I restock, I will go back to Luvs. I think drama's DD can't use Pampers due to rashes. clothes - DD was 7.5 lbs when she was born, and in newborn clothes and diapers for about 4 weeks. She was in 0-3 month clothes until she was about 4 months, then 3-6 mo clothes until about 7 months, then 6-9 mo clothes until about 9.5 months, and currently in 9-12 mo clothes. She's currently 11.5 months old and will probably be in those clothes for a little bit longer. Also, you'll also find brands of clothes that fit her better than others. Personally, I don't like Gerber's clothes as they seem very form-fitting on her, even though she's already a slender baby. sleeping - She also slept in her carseat for about the 1st month of her life (placed on the table in front of our bed). After that, she slept in a PnP until we moved her to her crib at about 8 months. FWIW, we were slow to get her room setup. DH and I did not want to co-sleep with her as we were both afraid of unknowningly rolling onto her. I our PnP and still use it when we travel. Our's is similar to this: www.target.com/p/graco-pack-n-play-playard-aspery/-/A-13478070, except a different color. thermometer - You can also buy a pacifier thermometer if needed. I used the rectal once on DD and she wouldn't stay still long enough to get a good temp reading. formula - If you end up formula feeding, ask your ped for any samples and also sign up for the coupons from the manufacturers. Some babies do well with any and some don't. Mine requires Similac Soy and no other soy would work. Most of all, enjoy your time with your newborn when she arrives. They grow up so fast!

I fourth/fifth/sixth the recomendation to buy a new carseat. It is never ever recommended to buy used. You have no idea of the carseat history and you don't want your child to be the crash test dummy when you find out that a previous accident weakened the seat. You can get a bare bones seat for around $50.

How about a sign for the front door if you don't want to be disturbed? Or figuring out now, when you aren't so hormonal and sleep deprived, what your ideal visitation schedule would be and communicating that to folks. I was up for nookie at about 4 weeks PP. But I wasn't up for entertaining people who only wanted to hold my baby having people visit. After I give birth, I like pretty much being a recluse with my nuclear family for the first couple of weeks. I don't like to share my new babies. Haha.... this is another thing I won't even try to predict. I could really go either way. I could see myself wanting lots of people around and I could also see myself wanting to scream if anyone besides DH comes near my kid for the first few weeks.

They can tell you within a certain tolerance (I think it is like +/- 0.5 lbs) but the problem is unless you have any problems your last ultrasound will be way before your due date (as far as I know). One of my friends had a 10 lb 2 oz baby, regular delivery because they had no clue how big the baby was!
PS - your bunny is getting so, so cute. I die of cuteness whenever I see his pics.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread, so my advice has probably already been suggested.
I would skip the bassinet & get a pack-n-play/bassinet combo. I think most pack-n-plays come that way now & no need for a separate expensive purchase for an item that is only useful for a few months.
Also check out Amazon Mom for things like diapers & wipes. I know for pampers diapers it is absolutely the cheapest I can find & they deliver it free. If you find generic diapers work, then you may find better deals elsewhere though.
I also wouldn't stock up too much on diapers before birth because specific brands may not work well or she might grow really slow or really quick. DD was in size 4 diapers by about 5 months because she had this massive buddha belly, whereas DS was 2 before getting into size 4 diapers because he is pretty skinny. For about 6 months there they were both wearing the same size diapers (until he was potty trained) which was weird since they are over 2 years apart.

so I have to ask, why does that matter? did she deliver successfully? an ultrasound could have predicted that the baby was 8 lbs so the end result would have been the same - vaginal delivery.
The problem happens when they tell you that your baby is huge and then you have a c-section for a 6.5 lb baby. And of course, weight isn't the important thing - it's head size and chest circumference.

The L&D ward told me you can donate diapers to them, pediatrician office's and domestic violence shelters always love to get diapers. You can take a half opened pack to them and they will glady take them. So even if you stock up and find you don't need them you can get rid of them.
I did that with newborn diapers of Gwen's. It was almost an entire package, I had only used a couple of diapers. I gave them to the L&D ward here at work.

My bunny can sleep through a lot of noise. It is probably because he got used to it in the hospital but vacuuming, even sometimes dogs barking don't phase him. Good call on the diaper sizing, Angel. We'll wait and see how big Babybird is before stocking up.
If people buy us diapers - you can return unopened packages, right?

It matters because she delivered vaginally and they ended up cutting her front to back (aaaaalllll the way back) and side to side. I still cringe when I think of that. If the knew she was a bigger baby, they would have done a c-section.

Depends on where you got them from. My MIL has returned diapers to Wal-mart no questions ask. Target is a giant PITA.
I regifted an entire box of newborn diapers. Then I donated opened ones that only had a handful of diapers taken out.

Maybe it was an excuse to keep people out. She didn't care if the baby "learned" to sleep through the noise - she just didn't want a bunch of nosy-ass people barging in. Frankly, when my kid slept I didn't want a stream of people coming and going - and my kid was angelic!
Also, I'm not totally convinced on the "babies learn to sleep through noise, so run the vaccum" thing. My daughter could sleep through anything. She could be in the middle of the room - dog barking, tv on, people walking around - no problem. I never did anything to cause that. My son preferred it quiet. I would do all sorts of stuff so he could "learn" - but alas, he would just cry. I think people are born a certain way. He now can go to sleep even if the house is kind of noisy, but he has to be in his room - he has always HAD to sleep in his room.

I was just saying that I wasn't anal about "protecting" the babies from regular noise.

I gave birth to a 9lb 14oz baby without needing a single stitch.

At least I can donate them if we can't return them.
What about clothes? Are those easily returnable if they don't fit (or they're much too pink)?

It's like trying to keep your kids healthy...you do what you can, but germs are EVERYWHERE...hard to avoid them getting sick.

We are not all superwomen/super mothers. My 1st was 6lb 1oz and I still needed stitches. I guess my OBGYN didn't know what she was doing. All her Harvard education and 20 yrs of experience didn't amount to much, huh?

I feel for any new Mom, and of course I think everyone who was more uptight than me was anal, and anyone who was more relaxed than I was careless, but I know that if you have a baby that is more needy (colik, fussy, whatever) you don't care how "anal" it appears to your neighbor - you do whatever you can to keep that kid asleep for an hour or two (or six) and eff-them if they want to judge you. I'm sure you will say that this lady's baby was perfect, so there was no need, but I certainly know people that have been in a situation where the doorbell would have woken a child that needs sleep, and the Mom needs sleep, too. So, I will give your neighbor the benefit of doubt.

" not that big??? She looked like a 3 month old baby well I guess the needing stitches and cutting up depends on the person giving birth too, not just the doctor. I cannot imagine giving birth to a 10 lb baby. My baby was 2 lbs 4 oz and honestly that was really hard I thought. Labor and epidural were the 2 things I was scared to death of...
