Has anyone else walked away from this show so very very disappointed? There wasn't one fact that we don't know already. They did mention the cards being scanned, but forgot to say what they do with that information. I read an article that briefly mentioned grocery stores sell the info on our cards to health and life insurance companies. These companies are creating a database with the information. The future is we will be charged a premium according to our food choices. I can't prove it, but it is worth thinking about.
They say we don't know how to shop or we don't notice changes such as bigger baskets. When I was too short to reach the bottom of a cart, I noticed the change and knew what was being done.
Typical cnbc, lots of talk, nothing said.

I didn't see the show, but I would guess that it doesn't offer much to the informed. One of the best things about this community, and the reason I hope it thrives and survives because others find us, is that what we take for granted isn't always widely known. I can think of at least 6 people at work who didn't realize that their purchases are tracked. There's a reason why I get the coupons I do. I agree. The information gathered today could and probably will come back to bite us. Unfortunately, I think that the information offered on the show really will come as a surprise to many, just not in our community. What we often view as common sense is such and "aha" moment for many.

I see your point. This program upset me because I feel the advertizing was misleading.

I have a grocery card but misspelled my name. They use the marketing information to see what trends are like people who buy diapers might also buy bananas or people who buy meat might also buy dairy.
It won't help with insurance rates people buy for more than themselves and in more than one store. I only buy loss leaders in most stores. I bought over 10lb each of apples, oranges and zucchini this week but they were all loss leaders so the most expensive was 69lb so only about 20 worth of produce including 8 cucumbers. I can't eat that much produce myself, so might have fruit for lunch everyday, feed to boyfriend, take some to mom or let it rot in the frig.
