Right before day break tomorrow, temperatures rising to 67 degrees, WSW winds gusting up to 75 MPH with severe thunderstorms and a chance of tornadoes. Maybe if you go buy some red glittery shoes, it will bypass your house. Of course you'll need to wear them, just to be sure! 😉 Too late a recommendation. Two tornadoes did touch down in the metro area with one touchdown about five miles from me. Wicked storms with tornado warnings at 0500 hours. Just fence damage for me.

First and foremost, I'm glad you are safe. But I am also happy you didn't get more damage. It doesn't sound fun to go through, at all.

Oh Weather, you wacky thing you!
Last week was extreme cold warnings with the windchill bringing the temps down into the -40 & -50 C. Today we've reach the expected high of 5 C by 9 am and we might get rain.
There is a warm wind from the South which should melt some of the snow off of the roofs but will probably take a number of tree branches with it.
Yup, life in Northernish BC. Wearing my down parka one week and my raincoat the next.

The forecast I heard for today said it was going to be warmer today. I haven't been, or looked out. But dang! For some reason, I am so cold, I'm shivering! I feel chilled to the bone. (Haven't turned my heat down. In fact, I turned it up about 5 degrees yesterday, or the day before.)
Brrr!

(Haven't turned my heat down. In fact, I turned it up about 5 degrees yesterday, or the day before.) Brrr! Back in July 2004, my sister and I drove my parents from Massachusetts to South Carolina. We were moving my parents from their home to an assisted living facility in the South Carolina town where my brother and his wife live. The folks were in their mid-80s age wise. It was July in the South. Hot. When we got my parents into their private two rooms, the a/c was set to 72 degrees. My mom asked me to turn on the heat to about 85 degrees because they were cold. I laughed to myself and thought this is what it must by like to be older. During the winter months I keep the house temperature at 70 degrees to save money. These past two years I have found myself wearing a sweatshirt to bed because my upper torso is cold at night. I now laugh at myself and think this is what it must be like getting older.

Tornado wise, all is well here in western Tennessee (including Memphis) after last night's tornado(es) in middle Tennessee including the Nashville area. Death toll is unfortunately high.

We had a 5.7 earthquake here, 7:10AM Wednesday. There were a LOT of aftershocks over 3.5. The biggest one came hours later and was 4.6. I still felt aftershocks Thursday, around 9pm. Living alone while going through all this coronavirus, social isolation, t-paper hoarding, etc, was hard enough. Now add the fear associated with a large earthquake to all that. It's not a good time. But I'm still hanging in here.
I hope your day is going well.

Half of a rain-soaked ornamental tree just came down onto my patio where the backyard cats eat and live. Weight of the rain on the new leaves and blossoms was too much for the trunk to bear.

I hope everyone is okay. Did the tree split? What will happen to it now? Did it hit your house? Sounds kind of scary, to me.

So on the short side for a tree. It was a major limb which broke off from the trunk, about 20 feet long. It probably accounted for 40% of the tree's crown though. Didn'hit house but covered all of the patio and draped over the cat homes and feeding area. Not sure what will happen to the tree. It is now off-balance. I may wait until the fall, once the leaves fall to have the rest of the tree cut down. Hopefully no wind storms blow it down. More messy than scary. Thanks for checking on it.

Curious: are you in an earthquake prone area of the country, and if you still have a home mortgage, are you required to carry earthquake insurance. I still have a home mortgage and am required to carry earthquake insurance. I have lived here 26 years and have yet felt an earthquake, let alone heard a baby rumble.

But I rent, so no mortgage. I do have renters insurance, but not earthquake. We've had two big aftershocks today. One was just a few minutes ago. A 4.0. I've felt quite a few earthquakes in my life. But I've never felt so many aftershocks! Maybe 1-2. And I've never felt aftershocks for so long! Earthquake was Wednesday around 7am. This last aftershock hit around 7pm on Sunday, with hundreds in between. It's unnerving, to say the least.

But you might want to check it or ask your provider to make sure earthquakes are covered.

I don't know if I am more afraid of coronavirus right now, or being swallowed by the earth. Neither sounds fun, or attractive. Ugh.

Sitting outside. Seventy-six degrees. Clear starry evening with a slight breeze. First time since October?
Doesn't get better than this.

It's storming out right now. Lightening and thunder, so another beautiful day, not, along with everything else.

3/30/2020 Number of aftershocks is up to 658! At least they are becoming less noticeable. Previously, you'd have to stop what you were doing for most of them.

There were several tornadoes and warnings around me Saturday, including the Jonesboro, Arkansas tornado. About 15 years ago, here in Memphis during one 24-hour period in early May, we had eight separate tornado warnings beginning around 0200 and ending around 0100 the following day. I was exhausted from lack of sleep.

We do get watches this time of year. But still don’t like the short worry. Sun is trying to peek out now that the severe thunderstorm warning has also lifted. Now will probably have a drastic drop in temperature.

Ugh. I'm not sure I could cope with constant tornado warnings (and/or tornadoes).
Stay safe and well, everyone!
