I don't think that was a Unisomitini (or whatever the hell he wrote!)

...:::"The nice thing about being a parent is that you don't have to justify your decisions for your child to other people.":::...
Actually, the part I'm MOST looking forward to is not having to justify my decisions for my child TO my child. I'm going to shiver with delight the first time I get to tell little M'rel "Because I SAID so"
Though in actuality, I'd probably just say "A warrior does not disobey."
...:::"And good for you, Dark. But your girls are living in a house with a SAHM, each have their own bedroom, and they aren't paying any bills, so naturally they're doomed to be welfare queens.":::...
I feel bad for the boys that will be expected to provide the same level of lifestyle.

Well SOMEONE is still going to have to fund those separate rooms and dinners out when the bank of Mom and Dad no longer extends funding to the less-than-deserving.

Dark, K to you, because I think you handled that really well!
Do your DDs have friends around the same age whose siblings DON'T play softball? If so, maybe you can arrange for your younger DD and another player's sibling to have play dates / sleepovers / do other activities during some of those evening practices?

LOL that's sad when you have to arrange friends for your kid.I'm not talking about arranging friends, I'm talking about arranging childcare. Ideally, with friends, or siblings of friends, or parents of friends. If the kid in question is seven, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this, Rick. Or not.

Just get a dog and tie a pork chop around her neck and the dog will play with her You are making fun of a 7 year old sweet little girl who doesn't want to play softball? And who said she doesn't have friends? I think your leg infection has traveled North.

What is there to agree or disagree. I just made a comment
I don't know, Rick. You tell me, since you're the one who disagreed with me, and told me my suggestion to Dark was "sad".
I agree with POM, most seven-year-olds aren't that great on arranging their own playdates, that ability generally comes a year or two later. But not always.
Hey, maybe there's a kind coach who can arrange those playdates for them, instead of their parents?!
Rick, forgive me, but I have to ask, do you even have kids?! I'm sorry but I really don't get you challenging me on this (or Dark. Frankly I'm not sure who you are challenging here, nor why.)

My kids arrange playmates all the time. Without any regard as to whether they have something else going on or whether someone is available to drive them there, or whether it's convenient formthemother parents. M Yup, arranging their own playdates works great!

I dont think thats going to stop some guys from trying to sample her wares
Rereading, I can only guess that both Dark and Loop will be VERY happy to see this comment about either their 7YO DD or their 9YO (DD since it's not clear exactly which young girl Rick's comment is aimed at).

So do I, MM. But *I* was challenged on MY comment to Dark, so sorry, I'm responding.
And sorry, I think that Rick's comments are totally out of line. I'm sure it's what my DH likes to call a "throwaway line", but, I'm also guessing that neither Dark nor Loop will love it much.
Don't we EVER need to take responsibility for our comments?! Sorry, but if Rick wants to make sexual comments about Dark's and Loop's pre-adolescent DDs' "wares", then sorry, but Rick needs to own them.
If some of you are willing to give him a pass on that, that's your prerogative. Would you feel the same way if he was talking about YOUR pre-pubescent daughters?!
Frankly, I give Rick NO pass on that, I felt his comments were either ignorant or inappropriate.
I also cannot speak to Dark's and Loop's reaction. They may well say I am overreacting, that I have no sense of humor, etc, who knows. I certainly don't know them well enough to determine their reaction.
But, sorry, I still think Rick's comments suck.

Debthaven - you just have to learn who the shit-stirrers are and then learn to pay them no mind. I'm not excusing anyone's comments, but I've learned that sometimes it's not even worth the 5 minutes out of your life to respond.

MJ, in all seriousness, are you saying I should have just ignored his comments? Again, I ask this question in all seriousness.

MJ I really mean it, I like and respect you a lot, I am hoping for a serious answer. For sure it would have saved me a lot of time / heartache if I had known it was better to ignore him.

Calm down people, Rick's comments are a bit crass, but I usually am too so it's all good. The kids are indeed 10 and 11. Technically Dark started it with his softball comment.... *innocent* Indeed. It can't be ok for me joke about their future sexuality but not ok for people to respond in the same vein. Now everybody drink these delicious martinis I made and then we'll have a nice group hug.
