Some people are on FB to get as many "friends" as possible.
I agree Daphne, but given that she has few friends, I'm guessing that's not the case for her. I think she just wanted to make sure her DH wasn't cheating on her with me. No mean feat, given that they are in Colorado and I'm in France and her DH and I haven't actually laid eyes on each other for exactly 30 years LOL.

I'm on FB - I'm friends with family members and few other people. I tend to not accept friend/emails from past co-workers, gradeschool "friends", and other aquantances I haven't spoken to or seen in more than 10 years. If they find this rude - so be it - how badly could I hurt their feelings - we haven't seen each other or spoken in more than 10 years... I'm just not that social a person. Back when I first signed up for FB I did accept "friends" from people I barely knew (in the past) and it seemed awkward and silly after awhile (kinda like being at a never ending party where you didn't really know anyone and you had exhausted the small talk). I think I got unfriended by some and I know unfriended some after awhile.

This thread has actually inspired me to unfriend people I have hidden. I can't remember how to do it. It is, however, possible that I have already done it. Can anybody remind me?

I've had Facebook since probably 2003 or so. My friends are a mix of elementary/high school classmates, college classmates, law school classmates, ex-coworkers, and family. They're all people I've met in person, no current coworkers, though. It's a great way to share pictures and keep up with people (I hate the phone). I don't post too much, just pictures and the occasional anecdote.
I also have a couple of FB friends I keep around purely for the drama factor... I've got my profile set so that they can't see much, but their newsfeeds are better than soap operas. One girl I went to HS with went through the "OMG I AM SO IN LUV WITH MY HUNNYBEAR" posts for about 2 months, then had an incredibly dramatic FB breakup the day before her birthday. She, Hunnybear, and the other woman had a 50-comment or so conversation that degenerated into some graphic genital descriptions I would probably be banned for posting. The next day she'd found Hunnybear 2 and the cycle began again!

I'm on FB and love it. It has allowed me to keep in touch with my friends from my international travels, my friends from grade school through high school and relatives from around the country.
I'm careful about what I post.
I have Blocked people who I consider to be total PITA and I will do it again.

I'm on FB and absolutely hate it. I joined several years ago trying to locate some old college classmates. I found a few, but not many. Then, I stupidly listed when and where I graduated from high school. Holy crap, I think I had over 100 friends requests in that week. I accepted most of them except the people I had no clue who they were. I've recently de-friended almost everyone from hs except a few. I think I'm down to 50 friends.
My funny FB story: I have the same name as a very famous soap opera star. I got a friend request with a message from an older lady gushing on and on about the show, her thoughts on my relationships on the show and if I ever left the show, she would never watch it again. It was rather comical. I think I still actually have the message. I need to go read that again for a laugh.
I sent her a return message telling her I wasn't the person she was looking for. Very nicely I might add.

A husband found out his wife was cheating on him, and called her out on it on FB, and she responded to him. I found out lots of stuff about their relationship that I really didnt need to or want to know.

I only go on FB to play games when I have some time to sit and relax. The only people I have on my FB are "neighbors" My friends have all asked me to add them and I usually ask if they play games and if they say no then I tell them I don't need friends I need neighbors lol.
The way I see it is I see the majority of my friends day in day out in RL. I know their "drama" I know what is going on and what parties might be happening. For me FB is just a nice way to play some games during my down time. The people I do have on FB can be pretty dramatic but I just ignore any posts that are not game related.
