Best age to go to Disneyland

My tactic would have been to make an estimate of the wait given the line size and how it was moving (hard, I know, when they compress it into an iron maze) and then ask DS if it was important enough to him to stand in line for that long. The answer probably would have been "no". If you don't lock yourself into a list of "must-see" and "must-do" things (which will undoubtedly be a duplicate of everyne else's) and just do what looks fun and doesn't have a long line, you'll be much better off. You should certainly do research beforehand on what your kids might like, but go in with the attitude that you're there to have a good time, not to cross things off the list. The best time I ever had at WDW was an afternoon off I had at a conference when I bought a combination ticket for Discovery Island and a water park. Discovery Island had few people on it and was peaceful and full of interesting animals, and I had a great time on the zipline over the lake in the water park. By my last trip, that either wasn't an option or it was insanely expensive.

We took each of our three kids during Fall Break of their kindergarten year. Young enough that it still has the "magic" and old enough to have the memories.
