It is a military operation. My kids were 10 and 12 when we went. I hated it. Lines were too long and it was really hot. Overpriced everything. We waited for at least 2 hours to see the mouse....lots of tired cranky kids waiting in line. It was really miserable. Every time you thought you were almost there, around another corner you went. We almost left the line several times but with so much time invested, we stayed....all for the privelege of 30 seconds with Micky and an overpriced photo as you left the maze. Ah, a fellow un-American who doesn't love Disney. ;D My tactic would have been to make an estimate of the wait given the line size and how it was moving (hard, I know, when they compress it into an iron maze) and then ask DS if it was important enough to him to stand in line for that long. The answer probably would have been "no". If you don't lock yourself into a list of "must-see" and "must-do" things (which will undoubtedly be a duplicate of everyne else's) and just do what looks fun and doesn't have a long line, you'll be much better off. You should certainly do research beforehand on what your kids might like, but go in with the attitude that you're there to have a good time, not to cross things off the list. The best time I ever had at WDW was an afternoon off I had at a conference when I bought a combination ticket for Discovery Island and a water park. Discovery Island had few people on it and was peaceful and full of interesting animals, and I had a great time on the zipline over the lake in the water park. By my last trip, that either wasn't an option or it was insanely expensive. For fun reading, here's my review of the Contemporary Resort and Disneymania. Mine is the second one down on the page, dated June 18, 2007. www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g34515-d85986-on35-Disney_s_Contemporary_Resort-Orlando_Florida.html#UR7925451

We took each of our three kids during Fall Break of their kindergarten year. Young enough that it still has the "magic" and old enough to have the memories.
