The theory why so many more people are dying of cancer now is supposedly that we are able to treat or cure so many other things now. If you live long enough, cancer will probably get you.
I have to wonder about environmental factors though. Esp. as Dad died of mesothelioma (asbestos related).

Lynnerself - I am so sorry about your parents. I have also wondered about environmental effects.

ARGH! I just opened my work email this morning only to find out one of the faculty members died yesterday of cancer. He was diagnosed in December, had gone through chemo and had surgery last month to remove the rest of the tumor. The surgery didn't go well. I'll miss him.
