Ava, good luck to you! Sounds like other posters have already given you some very sound advice here....so I really can't add much to their collective wisdom except to add: you go, girl!

Congrats Ava! I am so excited for you. The only advice I would give is don't get to too stressed about the overload of information. Starting a new job in a different field can feel a little overwhelming, even with the right education. You are brilliant and you will get it, but probably not on day 1.

Congratulations Ava,
Don't cook or eat offensive smelling foods for lunch, if you work in a cube don't engage in any noisy or disruptive behavior, be prompt and courteous in responding to e-mails and phone messages, use spell check on everything.
You'll be in learning mode, try to take notes on how to do things. I keep samples of my old paperwork around in case I forget how to do something. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but try to find the answer yourself first.

Congratulations, Ava. The thing about not getting caught up in Office Gossip (also known as Office Politics) is really important. There is a big difference between office politics and office gossip. Make sure you learn the difference. Which secretary is sleeping with which person in the mail room is gossip. Which manager is on the outs with upper management is politics. Paying attention to the former can only become an impediment. Paying attention to the latter can save (or advance) your career.

Awesome news Ava! The best advice I ever got about office politics was to always always keep your head down for the first six months. You don't want to take sides, or be perceived to have taken a side, until you've got a good idea of where the battle lines are. You want to be friendly without actually making any friends, because you don't know which enemies come with which friends yet.

Ava I'm about 95% sure I remember your post from a while back talking about going back to school for accounting. Regardless if that was you or not congrats and keep up the hard work as it will continue to pay off.

Souldoubt; I don't know if that was me. I've been going to school for the last five years. Thanks for all the good wishes

Playing them badly will hurt you.
