Seeing some clips of the address on CNN is giving me some chuckles. That bumbling fool sitting to the left of the screen is a prime example of what is wrong in Washington. How is that complete idiot actually Vice President of the US, let alone Obama being President. Your enemies must laugh their asses off every time they see those two on the same stage. I wish I could join in but unfortunately have too much at stake.

I suspect he assumes the economy will have rebounded enough by 2012 that he won't need all his base that put him in the White House.
He need independents to turn out in 2012, dems will vote against any pub candidate so what they like or don't like today isn't overly important.
Sorry, were you still talking about Pelosi?
Pelosi doesn't need makeup to look like that, it comes naturally under the CA sunshine.
He talked about training people from other countries studying here and returning to their home countries to compete against us. His point was to let them stay here as citizens.
I think he was suggesting that illegal kids should be allowed to go to state schools because they are more likely to stay here after graduation and put their educations to work.

'Twas a month after Christmas on the floor of the House, love and harmony abounding, no sign of a grouse. Democrats and Republicans a fellowship hearty with some from the left, some from the tea party.
"The economy's growing - new jobs by the millions," no mention the deficit - increasing by trillions. "Health care for all with nary a cost the wars are all over, not one we have lost.
If we all pull together to get the job done our future is certain, we'll be number one. With this thought I leave you as Commander-in-chief: Our soldiers will serve openly, wearing only their briefs."
And I heard he exclaim ere he strode out of sight "God bless America, except for the Right."

I'm not really interested in the Presidents state of the Union, it wouldn't matter if it was a Republican, the SOTU has just been a political commercial for as long as I can remember. I would like a President to provide a written report and give a short actual state of the union, but that is never going to happen no matter who becomes president. Thats your opinion and I feel exactly differently and yet agree with you on one item, I don't care what political party a POTUS was representing, for me it is a special moment in our governments traditions and I feel the majority of the American public feel the same way. When it gets to the point that it is felt by the great majority as you do, then the Republic is in trouble.

I don't agree, deficit was mentioned , recession is on it's last legs, jobs still needed. he took a page from Zakaria..21st century jobs for America , need investment into new Technologies...it's what should happen . It won't because the other side will say it's just a spending bill....will fight it, the rest of the world developed powers and developing powers will look over as they pass us in their gaining these new technologies and just shake their heads in wonder , many thinking, how could they have lost their way like that. Poem ok but the meaning was all wrong but cudo's for the effort.

Some of what he said in terms of job creation will take about 8 years to see any effect. By that time he won't be president but who ever follows will get the glory. But we must start somewhere. If Europe is any indication the high speed rail idea will take 20 years. My big question is where is the money going to come from? I think high speed rail is a good idea but very expensive. I would have liked to hear about modifying NAFTA and other trade agreements that give us a level playing field. He talked about training people from other countries studying here and returning to their home countries to compete against us. His point was to let them stay here as citizens. What he did not say was that many of those trained here are under their governments sponsorship and have an obligation to go back. I mentioned it on another thread but since you asked about where the money would come from. Fareed Zakaria has been suggesting this investment for the 21st century over a year now, did a special show on it , had a special segment in "Time " magazine. I brought it up as a thread a few times on the old zone...the interest in criticizing it, finding fault , ridiculing it , discussing it from any of the folks there {here now I guess}...was zilch, so doubt any discussion now, but it was almost a complete copy of..as was a few other ideas , which surprised me. One of those thoughts was the going back to their own country after getting their advanced degrees. So many want to stay here but we force them to leave. However Roe vs Wade...11 pages. Now that one will help reduce the debt , get jobs back so unemployment would go back to normal levels and possible get us out of Afghanistan sooner.

Paul Ryan's State Of The Union Rebuttal: The Best They Got? Paul Ryan delivered a heck of a rebuttal tonight, especially if you wanted to make one of those "Sarah Palin breathing" videos. But as far as the facts -- on taxes, stimulus, and health care reform -- go, a lot of Ryan's rebuttal came rebutted-back in advance of its delivery. Ryan: Not Exactly A Budget-Busting Genius Ryan's budget plan doesn't balance the budget: The CBO score that people are relying on to reach that conclusion doesn't actually estimate how much revenue Ryan would raise, instead it just takes Ryan's word for it that his ideas would raise 19 percent of GDP. That's because the CBO doesn't score tax issues, that's done by the Joint Committee on Taxation. But if you look at what Ryan's ideas would actually do, the truth is rather different. Ryan's Neat Trick On Taxation TPC: Tax Policy Center As often as Ryan despairs over the high burden taxpayers face, it often goes unsaid that Ryan's own tax plan is an idiot exacta: It slashes government revenues while simultaneously raising taxes on 90 percent of taxpayers. Was CNN the only network to get punk'd by Michele Bachmann's 'official' Tea Party SOTU response.

We get it...you don't like Republicans, no matter what ideas they may come up with, and it is people like you who are part of the problem in politics.

You don't have a clue as to my partisanship. Remember, my goal is to piss off righties, whether I agree with lefties or not.

Obama will never lose his base. It's the Independents that Democrats lost in November, and if they don't swing back Democrat by the time he's up for re-election, it'll be impossible for him to retain his job. Period.
It would have to be a 25 to 28 point swing, btw. It could happen, but I wouldn't put money on it-- and neither will Obama's old donors, many of whom are now backing Republican challengers.
That's the combination problem Obama has right now-- Democrats, and by extension that means him-- have lost Independent voters for the foreseeable future, and with them- they've lost funding. The problem will continue to compound for Democrats until they figure out a solution to it. So far they're going with telling the right to "sit down and shut up". It's not exactly working.

There is some truth in your words. However, what is an Independent? Many of them are just closet Democrats and Republicans who want to avoid a party label.

he took a page from Zakaria..
So after a good 100 years of amazing technological progress and job creation by real American minds you're going to take advice on the subject from two Muslims? Try turning back the clock on demographics, taxation, regulations and government meddling then watch all the "21st century jobs" magically appear before your eyes.

I think she would just like to have the opportunity to "earn" a personal check. She does have the opportunity.

Remember, my goal is to piss off righties, whether I agree with lefties or not. So you admit you're a troll? And wouldn't "pissing off a rightie" at least require that the rightie actually somewhat care about your spoon fed opinion?

I thought his speech signaled a real move to the center. You didn't have to listen to the speech but just watch the number of times pubs rose and dems stayed seated.
That was my impression as well. The sad part is that when push comes to shove, the same reps will do anything to prevent any real progress from occurring on Obama's watch.

'My motto: Democrats are spineless, Republicans are evil. '
Confuse a liberal with facts and commen sense. Support a conservative by being personally responsible.
The MSN page said bho was accusing GOP of 'spending', while he wanted to 'invest'. Besides the way it's spelled, what is the difference between spending and investing in bho's thoughts? What is the return on his welfare investing?

Condensed version of the SOTU. "I am going to spend as much money as I can for all these things to make the country more competitive, but have no idea where the money is coming from to do it, and if I can't bribe people with earmarks any more, I'm screwed. Also-- I really need to legalize the illegals because I need the total Hispanic vote to win in 2012 since I had to piss so many people in my base off by moving center. Do you think they bought this speech? I think I did better in AZ.."

FACT CHECK: Obama and his imbalanced ledger A tricky juggling act as Obama urges more spending and a freeze on spending Calvin Woodward, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) -- The ledger did not appear to be adding up Tuesday night when President Barack Obama urged more spending on one hand and a spending freeze on the other. Obama spoke ambitiously of putting money into roads, research, education, efficient cars, high-speed rail and other initiatives in his State of the Union speech. He pointed to the transportation and construction projects of the last two years and proposed "we redouble these efforts." He coupled this with a call to "freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years." But Obama offered far more examples of where he would spend than where he would cut, and some of the areas he identified for savings are not certain to yield much if anything. finance.yahoo.com/news/FACT-CHECK-Obama-and-his-apf-989878074.html?x=0&.v=2

Burns, the fact that you would consider either tells me more than I need to know about you.
He coupled this with a call to "freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years
Freezing the level of domestic spend doesn't mean you have to spend on the same things, add dollars over there, cut dollars from over here. Take $50 billion from defense, put that money toward a new electrical grid or high speed rail system.
