I'm so glad your DH is with you and recovered enough to return to work. I hope he speaks to a counselor if he needs to. There's a lot of grieving when your body is traumatized and becomes incapable of doing things.

I too wanted to add my good wishes to your husband's recovery continuing and that work will improve his quality of life.
When DH and I first got married he had severed his dominant hand by having a large steel roller fall onto it. They were able to reattach and did many surgeries on him. After a few years it does get better and you get used to what you can and cannot do with the disabled hand.

DH - I know you are usually a more private poster, but I'm sorry I missed hearing the news before this. SOOOO glad that your DH is going to be ok! And so happy for him & for your family that he gets to return to work!

Thanks everybody for all your warm wishes! They are very appreciated and I am very touched!
I'm happy to say that today DH called the man, who was thrilled to hear the good news. Goldenrule I think you are absolutely right, calling him is a bit like reliving the accident. I'm glad he did it though. (I offered but he wanted to do it himself.) And as you and Optimist and others say, there is inevitably a sense of loss, as well as immense gratitude. And yes, Kari, DH is an artist who eventually became a graphic designer. Goldenrule, I'm so sorry about your DN.
Shasta, wow, I never realized your DH had been through that. That must have been an awful time, I'm so glad they were able to reattach the hand.
DH used to play guitar in a bluegrass band with friends. He can't play guitar anymore, which is very hard for him. Now he sings and plays harmonica. One of the guys lent DH a ukelele (four strings) a couple of weeks ago, and he has just started tinkering with it.
