Mid, I'm impressed that you know Japanese cars! 3000 GT SL. I love my car! It also has a sun roof (for MU's thread). I also love the Miata, but it's so tiny I would feel intimidated on the road with all the SUVs. LOL! But that is such a cute car!

Hey, my sister has one of those! It is a great car... she's had it for at least 5 years, no major repairs, and not bad to look at, either. This is my baby: ETA - yep POM, it's red, but DH says my car is much "less shiny" than the pic, "and don't forget about your rust spots." He's jealous

$225.71 and right around $5.5k left to pay it off. I did 6 years and I've done 42 or so of the payments. Its depressing when I compare it to my student loan balance. Car was $14k and loans were $19.5k. I used to pay extra on both till I lost a job. I've been making the car payments and I see progress on it. Loans are still right around $19k.

$620/mo on our 2010 Raptor.. $340/mo lease on a shitty 2011 Honda Accord..
Going to this shitty Accord pretty soon. Probably into another lease of something less shitty..
Then in 3 years when the truck is paid off, I'm going to buy the most car I can get for $1200/mo.

I've never NOT had a car payment...I did trade in my Jeep 2 years ago (hated it anyway) that had a $320/mo. payment. I think I re-fi'd it once when I was really struggling financially and it went down to maybe $260. Bought a '06 Toyota 2 years ago. Payment is $195 at like 3.5% so I plan on keeping that sucker around. I still have about 3 1/2 years on the loan. I don't think I'd ever have another payment over $300 again, not on my salary. I can't believe people pay $600-800 a month for a car! Yikes!

Car paymet size is relative... Our payments are just 3.7% of our gross pay.

$214.96 for a used 2004 Dodge Intrepid. I took over the payments on my father's loan last year when he decided he no longer wanted to make a car payment, and went back to driving his van. It's black, with a sunroof, and shiny wheels. I was going to wait out the penalty phase on my insurance after my accident in '09, but this just dropped into my lap. There's $2.235 left on the loan. I transfer my mom $100/month for my part of the insurance.

Two paid for vehicles, two cars with payments. One is $186 for about 20 more months and one is $205 for 26 more months. DH also just got a new car for his business, but the business pays that.

Well, if I knew how to invest money, I wouldn't have paid cash for my car. But since $$$ was sitting in ING, there was no reason not to

Just wondering if you have had problems. Because it is an Accord. I fooled myself into thinking I could stand to lease one for 3 years. It deflates my soul every day I have to drive it. It isn't specific to this car - any underpowered, generic-box like a Camry, Impala, or Altima would make me feel the same way.

POM, I am so in love with your car!!!!!! We are looking to get a new car in 2-3 years, but it won't be anything exciting - just something affordable to get us from point A to point B safely. At my 3/4 live crisis, I'm sooooo buying a red GTO Judge!

No car payment now but maybe soon. Not sure how much longer DH's car can be repaired.

I had not had a car payment since 1999. As of last week, I do have a car payment of just over $250.

POM, my dad bought a 3000GT VR4 in like.... 1994 and is still driving it. QQ - I wanted one of those so bad! But I was too cheap to pay the price for it. And the '95 SL, a 5-speed, in the exact color and full package I wanted, came on the market that was only 1 year old. It was a deal we couldn't refuse. <<wears YM hat proudly>> ;D Thanks Jen! Mid - I am LMAO at what your husband said about "Don't forget the rust spots". DH had ours detailed and the idiot guy buffed the paint so hard it shows the circles now in the paint in some areas. I'm still mad about it! I need to get it fixed one day soon - if they even can. DH didn't notice it when he picked the car up and the place since changed ownership.

We don't have any car payments (both the Suburban and Truck are paid off), but we do have a boat payment:
$650 for 10 years (I have no idea what the interest rate is) - we'll have our house paid off before the boat is!

We don't have one at the moment but will probably have one soon. My plan was to trade in the paid for 2007 Corolla when we got a bigger car and then pay most of the difference. DH though, now wants to keep the Corolla so we'll probably have to finance around $10K.

Bring me up to speed...is it a YM sin to lease? I've been leasing for about 15 years and love it. I always get the same car, Accord, just change the color. Currently paying $275 per month, no money down. I don't put a lot of miles on my cars, so owning wouldn't be so bad, but I'm lazy with car maintenance. Now i just change the oil a few times and return it. I think money wise, it comes out to almost the same.

Buying new was also a YM sin. But, i found a new car has new tires, new brakes, new safety features and warranty and so forth. So, in the long run, i think that works out as well. Unless you want to trade more often, then lease or used.

Unless you want to trade more often, then lease or used. This thinking is a little outdated. Used cars values really inflated over the last four years. I know a person who bought a 2011 used car for $23,500. MSRP on that was $27,000. People were buying them new all day long for $25,000.. That is NOT enough of a discount for me to buy used, where 5 years go we would see more depreciation on that new car..

Our payment was $350, but we just paid it off. DH says that was our last car payment, but he has a pretty bad track record for paying off one car, just to purchase and finance another. The financing part was due to the low interest rates for the last couple though.

435--its my first car payment ever and will most likely be the last. While I will consider doing what Phil does and buying a car when I COULD take the money out of the account but it makes better sense not to I will consider that. Otherwise no cash--no car--IE I will only buy cars I can afford

I was pinging Infiniti dealers over the weekend to find a G37 coupe with the right options. Thanks to the model getting a little long in the tooth, they really deal on them these days. $47,200 MSRP and I was offered $41,200. If I pull the trigger, I'll finance it all paying taxes and registration out of pocket. ~$718/mo for 5 years at 1.9%..
Subtract the $340/mo for the shitty Honda..

Financing: 2008 Kia Sportage at $450/month (1 more year)
Leasing: 2010 Honda Civic at $249/month (1 more year also and she is looking at getting a mini cooper clubman).
