I can't believe Astra Zenaca rejected Pfizers offer - But at least Pfizer doesn't have to overpay for a company. The English are really a bunch of idiots.

Well here are a couple more Upcoming Splits:
MIDDLEBY CORPORATION is Splitting its Stock 3 to 1. This will be the first Split in the Company's History.
DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS is doing a 100% Stock Dividend on it's Class C Common Shares Symbol DISCK. This is effectively a Stock Split Of the Class C Common Shares as the price of the shares will react and be adjusted in the same way a 2 for 1 Stock Split would be. Although, this one will be from how it looks a TAXABLE EVENT.

Recently APPLE Split, and so did UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD..
Now these 2.. Could be the start of a larger trend... Time to perk up the ears folks..

Looks like stock splits and mergers are coming back in fashion with large corporations. I have several stocks that are candidates for splits. The average stock price is $56 for stocks so ............... anything that is over $100 is certainly a candidate for spliting.
Some are : JNJ, IBM, Exxon, Clorox .................... Looking forward to see how it all plays out.

Kinder Morgan will purchase Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (NYSE:KMP), Kinder Morgan Management (NYSE:KMR), and El Paso Pipeline Partners (NYSE:EPB) in a $44B deal that will consolidate the oil-and-gas pipeline empire into a single company. The MLP structure is limiting, says Richard Kinder. Combining the four companies into one unit through the Kinder Morgan (NYSE:KMI) purchase "will allow us to further expand the reach of the kind of projects we can do."

Yes a major deal there. Interesting thing though is that all of the Kinder Morgan companies spiked on the news..
Seeing KMR, KMP & EPB spike was expected; seeing KMI spike is a bit confusing as they are the ones doing the acquisitions.

Stages of a Stock SplitPRE-ANNOUNCEMENT Stocks usually enter this stage quietly and without fanfare after a long period of healthy earnings growth. However, in some cases emergence into the Pre-Announcement stage occurs quickly, as unexpected events or windfalls cause rapid increases in the stock price. This stage is often associated with great appreciation in share value. The key to profiting from this stage is being able to determine which stocks are the most likely to split and when. --> ANNOUNCEMENT The positive publicity surrounding the announcement of a planned stock split usually attracts a large number of new buyers. This influx of traders and investors often drives the stock price higher, giving exceptional price increases for those positioned in the stock prior to the announcement. DORMANCY There is generally a return to normal price behavior in the weeks following a split announcement as the initial interest subsides and traders take some profits. The shorter the period of time between the announcement and the split date, the less subdued this stage will be. PRE-SPLIT RUN For many stocks this is the most powerful phase of the split cycle as investors dramatically bid up the price of the limited supply of shares. SPLIT EXECUTION The day of the stock split provides the final announcement to the public that the stock has split. Many investors who watched the stock rise at the announcement and again during the pre-split run will now buy shares at the lower split prices. These final buyers will push prices even higher. POST-SPLIT DEPRESSION After the last buyers have taken positions, investor interest in the stock begins to fade along with the excitement surrounding the split. Prices will often retreat as shares are sold to lock in profits. This stage frequently offers excellent shorting opportunities. www.rightline.net/education/stagesofsplit.html

Verizon I can see but I wonder what Amazon plans on doing with small stores like that - A return and pick up facility ? I guess it could save them millions on UPS & Fedex Fees.

Will the Strong Dollar spur a lot of M&A activity ?According to this article it might ! It's supposed to be common knowledge on Wall Street that a stronger dollar causes U.S. companies to go buy international companies with their wealthier currency. But a new study by one notable strategist argues that history shows the opposite is true: A stronger dollar leads to foreign entities' buying of American companies, which in turn should further raise U.S. stock values this year. In the report, he names the companies that may be bought out in this 2015 M&A boom. "We analyzed U.S. M&A over the past 25 years and found that extended strength in USD has led to surges in inbound M&A," wrote Thomas Lee of Fundstrat Global Advisors and formerly of J.P. Morgan. "This is an obvious positive for U.S. stocks, from a valuation perspective (premium and boost to multiples) and offsets the perceived earnings 'penalty' from overseas earnings." Western European and Canadian companies are the most likely acquirers, Fundstrat found, and the industrial and materials spaces should be where they find the most value this time around. "While counterintuitive, it is logical—cos invest with better growth (evidenced by USD strength) and bet on persistence of FX strength," wrote Lee. The jump in the U.S. dollar index over the last three months, measuring about 7 percent, should lead to a 17 percent gain from stocks over the next 12 months if the historical trend holds true, according to Fundstrat. The inbound M&A is the big reason, followed by global-leading GDP growth signified by that dollar rise and a P/E expansion as that stronger currency makes future earnings worth more. Lee and his team screened for companies with low return on equity, little leverage and high cash. So they sought to find companies that could use an acquirer to perform better and also have the attractive quality of a strong balance sheet. Among the 39 candidates in the report are Cobalt International Energy, Pandora Media, Yelp, 3D Systems, Splunk, First Solar, Cabot Corp. and McDermott International. "Overall, M&A surged to a record in 2014, and given the high levels of cash still on balance sheets, we see this surging in 2015," wrote Lee. One possible way for the retail investor to ride this trend without trying to pick the individual stocks is to invest in the SPDR Materials ETF. Using Kensho, a quantitative analytics tool, CNBC.com found that the ETF gained 2 percent in the 30 days after a major deal in the metals and mining space. The study looked at six major deals post the 2007 financial crisis. www.cnbc.com/id/102394198

Frontier Communications (FTR) Stock Soaring Today on $10 Billion Verizon Deal BY Tedd Cohen Follow | 02/05/15 - 07:54 AM EST | NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of Frontier Communications Corp. (FTR - Get Report) are up 7.83% to $7.85 in pre-market trade after it was reported that Verizon Communications (VZ) is close to selling a package of wireline assets to the regional telecommunications company for about $10 billion, sources told the Wall Street Journal. The deal, which could be announced this week, would be the largest ever for Frontier, according to S&P Capital IQ. It also would be one of the largest in the U.S. so far this year, according to Dealogic. Frontier, which operates in 28 states, has done a number of deals in recent years to boost its landline holdings, the Journal said. The wireline sale would pare back Verizon's role selling telephone and Internet service to residential customers and businesses. The company is the largest U.S. wireless operator by subscribers and sees that market as the key to its future, according to the Journal. The disposals come as Verizon is raising cash to pay down a big debt load from its $130 billion acquisition of partner Vodafone Group's (VOD) share of their U.S. wireless venture and an expensive recent auction of wireless licenses, the Journal noted. TheStreet Ratings team rates FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS CORP as a Buy with a ratings score of B. TheStreet Ratings Team has this to say about their recommendation: "We rate FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS CORP (FTR) a BUY. This is driven by multiple strengths, which we believe should have a greater impact than any weaknesses, and should give investors a better performance opportunity than most stocks we cover. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its compelling growth in net income, solid stock price performance, expanding profit margins and notable return on equity. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had generally high debt management risk by most measures that we evaluated." www.thestreet.com/story/13035915/1/frontier-communications-ftr-stock-soaring-today-on-10-billion-verizon-deal.html
