Hershey's cherry cordials at grocery closeout basket which is a regular stop for me. Bread outlet. My best buy was 12 Special K bars for $1.80.

My entertainment is: Blogging, these boards, wii, netflix, talking to my girl friends, reading, baking. These things keep me busy and happy.
Sale items: If it's safe, I'll buy it. My state dooesn't allow 'used' grocery stores, but when they did I was happy as a pig in mud. All of the bread stores have closed down, which is irritating too. I went to Aldi's today and bought a loaf of white bread for .79. It's not enriched (DS will blast anyone who brings home enriched bread, I laugh at him when he rants over it)

Suz with Kindle: FREE books can be downloaded from Amazon. Select your genre of interest, then sort by price (low to high and you will be able to view the FREE books...download and enjoy! For some reason Amazon will still send you an invoice, but it will be a zero balance due. I have downloaded the Kindle app to my phone, but haven't gotten the hang of how to use it, in the mean time, I read my free books on my netbook. Hey, I guess that answers one of the other questions, goals for 2011 learn to use all of this electric stuff!

Absolutely I have purchased food items on clearance; for example, the bakery in my preferred grocery seems to always have loaves of store baked french bread 2 for 99 cents. I buy 2 and freeze. I use to make "french bread pizza" with leftover speghetti sauce (or some of the pizza sauce I canned last summer when I snagged a bushel of tomatoes for $3) and add pepperoni, and/or pre-browned ground beef and a sprinkle of mozzerella from the freezer and I have a really, cheap pizza meal. Add a salad and you have a fast meal for little $. My grocery's breads are about 12" long, so I cut in half and then half again and tadah you have 4 servings. I have also used their sub buns and store made hamburger buns in a similar fashion...

I do regularly cut out coupons "just in case" - I rarely use them, but you never know!

I cut coupons (sometimes) in the hopes that someone I know may want/need them.

For those of you that are testing the waters of couponing... I don't cut anything out, I just leave the inserts in full and cut as I need. There are some websites that you can put in the name of a product and it will give you the name and date of the insert that the coupon was in. (You can get some ideas on one of the other threads here that lists websites for couponing). I don't use a lot of coupons, but I combine sales and couponing from time to time and save a lot of money that way.
Most of the time I use coupons on HBA items since I like to eat mostly unprocessed foods and they don't have a lot of coupons on fresh fruits and veggies.

1/1/11 Nope! The only one in our house who made it was the 14-yr-old night owl. I fell asleep around 10 and DH, Mom and Dad fell asleep around 11. Saved us a bottle of bubbly!

@bobbysgirl: Sure why not--it's easy, it's cheap, and it's quick especially when there are hungry kids and/or hovering for lunch/dinner! I have also cubed the cheap bakery bread to make breakfast casserole when eggs are on sale.

Wackyaunt: I have looked at some of the free stuff too. However, I really like the new releases too which are big $$$$$$'s. Thanks for the suggestion - even if I spend some money, it is less then what I was paying for the books and I don't have to figure out what to do with them when I am done reading them.

I was talking to a girl friend last night and she said 'Do you know you have one minute until midnight?" I was shocked I made it. A few minutes later I was cutting the z's.

I started way early. At my time 9:00 a.m. or so, it was New Years in New Zealand, Austrailia, the Far East and moved westward. I got snippets of the fireworks. By bedtime I was partied out!
The first thing I read this morning was "go from strength to strength"!

WOW-No question yet today. OK-here goes:
What is the best deal you found (allowing for coupons, store card, mega sale) in today's ads?
NOTE: I am running out of ideas.

I have a question for today - What is the most effective but inexpensive solution to use for mopping tile floors? *I have used vinegar/water, but it does not clean the floor as well as a product like Mr Clean, so I'm looking for ideas that actually clean the floor well but are less expensive than the commercial solutions! THANKS!

I am trying to figure out a way to use the CVS ads to my advantage. I have a $4 off of $20 coupon and a $2.00 EB. I think I may get the deal with the products on the front page - probably 4 Wisk's if I have enough coupons.
Here is how it should play out - buy 4 Wisk's - use $4 off coupon, use $2 off EB - use 4 - $2 off Wisk coupons. Total cost - $6 plus tax - get a $10 EB on the next purchase.

Would bleach and water with a drop of dish soap work for tiles?

I haven't seen any great deals today ... yet.
We mop our tile floors with water and a bit of vinegar, then I spot clean problem areas with a scrubby sponge or a Magic Eraser.

Windex type wndow cleaner may not be cost effective but that is what I use for floors and bathroom. I recycle the paper towels I use to wipe my hands on for cleaning the dryer filter, bathroom and floors.
I also like Fabuloso but I don't know about it's germ killing.

Have you tried simple green? It comes in a concentrated form so you can use a little bit to a larger amount of water. I saw a regular spray bottle size at Lowe's for about $5. I have an extra spray bottle that I have for general cleaning and then whenever I mop the floors I just pour a little from the original bottle and fill it with water. For tough cleaning you can use it at full strength.

Happy New Year to all! I'm still trying to get caught up after not having my computer to myself at Christmas. I'll add my 2 cents to a couple of older Questions of the day: I can't really say I made my financial goals in 2010, but I managed to do alot of home renovations at a deep discount, so it was a wash in my opinion. I still have a little cc debt on one card, but because of all the renovations, I wasn't able to pay it completely off. I plan on it being payed off in February. After that, the only debt I have are school loans for DD and DS, but since the ex has to pay half I won't be trying to pay those off early, and my mortgage. I bought DS a new to him (and me since I use it for trash runs, etc) truck with cash. I continued to fund my EF, which is close to $8,000. and I have a Christmas fund, so had the money for Christmas. Which brings me to goals for 2011. FINALLY pay off my cc, continue to build my EF, and really sock the money towards my mortgage. I am trying to pay off my mortgage in 8 years, so it will be retired by the time I am eligible to retire!!!
Also, I have been known to buy meat or bread type food on quick sale. We have bread outlets in town, but it's pretty far for me to drive to, plus they don't seem to have much in the way of specials or markdowns for the type of bread I like to buy. I am pretty handy around the house, so do alot of my home improvements myself, but I would love to do more gardening. It's hard (and hot and humid!) to get out and water when I get home and don't really have a good spot (due to septic system) to put in a garden. I've tried the pots and topsy turvy tomato plants, but they don't really seem to do much. I can get flowers to grow really well, but I've never had much luck with veggies.

Question for 01/03/11It's 12:00 somewhere, right? (ETA: I already messed up and put the wrong year...oh well, I'm sure I'll be editing that until at least July, especially since I rarely write checks anymore) An earlier question got me wondering, but does anyone cut out coupons and leave them at the store for other people to use?I usually see a lot of diaper coupons and things like that that I have absolutely no use for, but know that someone else can use. I first saw this when I had to get diapers for my own son (normally bought from Costco, but since that was about 2 hours from home we had run out). Someone had cut out a coupon and taped it to a package of diapers so I used it I love it when I "find" a coupon in the store attached to something I was going to buy anyway. I try to leave some myself when I can remember to. So, anyone else carefully litter with coupons?

yes, sharing the unneeded coupons blesses yourself and others. I take extra restaurant coupons when we eat out and share with the other diners, too. Paying forward, sharing the blessings.

Honestly I never thought about leaving coupons I don't use. I think I will start doing that this year. However, whenever I find a good deal (like the CVS deal this week) I pass it on to my friends so that they can save money.
Molly, I don't think we need a new thread for each QOD - this thread has been really manageable and I like it so far. IMHO
