At my university we get 4.5 weeks (22 days) for vacation time. Use it or lose it in one calendar year (using is encouraged). Technically, we have 10 sick days, but if you have more we all look the other way. You can accumulate, I think, but I honestly don't know what it is. 10 meeting/travel days per year to attend conferences, etc.
I'd LOVE to be able to "buy" more vacation time. Would LOVE.

I have no idea what I get, but it is not enough. It may be two weeks of PTO after a year. I just keep requesting time off throughout the year until my boss denies me more.

I have worked for companies that allowed you to buy and sell vacation time. I really liked that.
I have 2 week vacation (use it or lose it, I once carried 2 days into January but only with 2 managers approving it), and 1 personal day. I need 8 years before I get the third week. I'm salary, so I don't have sick time - if you're sick, stay home. I'm sure that if someone was abusing it they would do something, though.

1 year = 3 weeks 2-4 years = 4 weeks 5-9 years = 5 weeks 10-15 = 6 weeks
Add 9 paid holidays a year and no sick time, just the PTO. You can accrue 1.5 times your allotment, then it's use or lose. Also 'executive' levels get an extra week or so.
I agree with WWBG, not having seperate 'sick' leave means a lot of people come to work ill. It's sometimes like a grade-school, with everyone getting the same 'bug.' Although, some people build in a 'buffer' and keep ~5 days for sick day/inclimate weather.

HMM, I thought this was illegal in most states?
We get:
Vacation-3 weeks years 1-5. An extra day each year 6-10, max is 4 weeks after 10 years. You can bank 1.5 times your accrual. Sick time-2 weeks/year, max of 142 days. Personal-2 days Holidays-9 per year
You have to save some vacation time for the week between Xmas and New Years, when we are closed.

We don't have personal time - just vacation and sick days. Sick days are 6 per year, carried over indefinitely, but we're not supposed to use them for anything except illness. Vacation is two weeks the first two years and then three weeks, but it never goes higher than that.

I can't remember (or find) our company's excat policy for vacation/personal time. Our's goes into a 'bank' to be accured and used on a as needed basis. I know once you've been here a certain amount of time, the amount goes up.
I'm earning over 8 hours per pay period of PTO as I've been here more than 15 years. I can accure up to 600 hours before we lose anything. If an employee is close to the 600 hour mark, they have the option to sell, donate or use those hours.
The company use to have a sick 'bank' as well and a few employees that have been here longer than me still have hours in these banks.
