It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

I guess it's time to pull myself back into the present ... albeit, reluctantly. I'll bounce forward to 1970 and catch my flight to the future from there ...

I'm so glad, GEL! Those are songs few will remember and some may never have heard; yet, they mean the world to me and still bring chills ... and tears.

I feel like I'm lost in the 50s sometimes. She would always have music playing - from all eras. It was a true gift she didn't realize she was giving.

LOL. I'm much the same, GEL. Music was a constant in our home. I find myself enjoying music from the "big band era", the thirties and forties. It's what I heard growing up. Here's one you might enjoy. Present time, but a very, very old style.

Very interesting, mmhmm. I've become rather stagnant lately - sticking to country and the oldies. I'm really enjoying branching out and listening to something else here for a change.

Ack! I can't see which songs are posted while I'm at work.
I need to retire.

Prayer in Open D from Emmy Lou Harris from the album Cowgirl's Prayer. Actually not religious but all about a troubled soul moving towards the light. edited: That was misleading. The whole album is amazing and does have a religious flavor and uses a lot of religious imagery. And the rock of ages I have known Is a weariness down in the bone I use to ride it like a rolling stone Now just carry it alone There's a highway risin' from my dreams Deep in the heart I know it gleams For I have seen it stretching wide Clear across to the other side Beyond the river and the flood And the valley where for so long I've stood With the rock of ages in my bones Someday I know it will lead me home More lyrics: www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/emmylou_harris/

I've always found this piece to be particularly beautiful
And Ms. McKennitt's rendition of 'Tango to Evora' below was a favourite of one of my high school teachers that I also grew to like:

Loreena McKinnitt is one of my favorites, Virgil. Her voice is bell-like in its clarity of tone.
